I love/enjoy watching other Players search for tone, it is ongoing and never ending as we all experience growth in our playing (part of what makes guitar playing beautifully rewarding). Thank You for the content
I absolutely love that green tele 😍 As far as the tone goes, your really conistent with the tone you Dial in. I hoesntly find your tone sounds pretty much the same no matter what you plug into on this channel. I don't know if its an instinctive thing always eq up the tone you like but from the marshall, two rock to the matchless and Axe Fx it always sounds the same.
That’s interesting, there are obviously differences with each unit and if you compare side by side I think you’d hear a big difference. I’m also going to gravitate to “tones” that I know work in a particular setting, like reverb length, delay type, eq etc.
I change them when their worn out 2-4 weeks I guess. I use different brands and I’m trying to find some I really like. On the guitars at the moment are 10-46 rotosounds.
I used to do this same kind of set up with an FM3 and then I really did an A/B test for three hours one day and realized that my drive tones from physical pedals were indistinguishable to the most finite degrees from the ones in the Axe. The reason I kept the pedals was all cerebral - or psychological. Now, there is a great argument to say that that factor is enough to keep them. but in that moment it no longer was. Sold my board and all I have left is is my Microcosm because that cannot be replicated .
I personally think an fc12 is a better option. With the right tweaking, you can get all the gain and fuzz sounds you want, plus you still have so much more flexibility.
Great tones. I'm using a Plumes with a Spark booster for all but my most extreme dirt sounds, great pedal. I know they market it as a Tube Screamer but IMO its much closer to an OD3, at least how I've got mine set, but about $50 cheaper in my neck of the woods. It would be interesting to see somebody do that comparison.
I have an almost identical setup. Using a PX-8 with drives, fuzzes, wah and an expression pedal. Axe is in real tube amp head loop providing digital post preamp effects. PX-8 presets 1-8 send midi PC commands that I map to 8 scenes on one patch in the axe named after my physical amp ( using the MIDI mapping feature on the axe). Presets also control amp channels selection through a DMC.micro paired with a Voodoolab midi relay switcher. And finally (whew), use one board xsonic pro to manually control axe patches on/off and enable looper controls. The result is MASSIVE real amp, cab and pedal tones and all the goodness axe brings for digital effects. Using the same setup, I use PX-8 banks 9-16 with axe providing amp modelling going to a line 6 powercab.
Will have a really cool new bit of kit to freak around with the airsteps Paul. If you’re swapping 5 scenes about. You’ll want to see this guy Dom Alf’s new The Button Mini which is just launching. Would give you all that right on the guitar itself.
Nice! I did something similar for a small board using just a H90, Protein, Ego, EQ200, and a Volume/Wah pedal going into a Synergy amp unit. So much smaller and simple compared to my huge at home board w/ every pedal under the sun. Lol :)
Ace board, sounds great! I've got/had a fair few on this board myself. The Plumes is great, especially for the money, but the bass cut was just too much for my sound. Probably because I play a Jag through a Twin so there isn't much bottom end to start with.
Hey Paul. We love to listen to each detail of your ever changing pedal board. Your videos have a truly fantastic sound, though I am not sure how much of this would be saved for a proper live gig given your amount of reverb and delay. Anyhow. When you change it again, and make a new video, count me in. Best from Munich, Thomas
Cheers Thomas, Its funny but I always want a little more reverb and delay than I think, mind you i migh set up some patches with it dialed back just incase.
Hey paul…so looks like youre not using any of the onboard effects in the es5 but just using like a gigrig controlling everything and switching order and combos of pedals and all your mod effects are coming out of the fractal rack unit? So you cant do the scene switching via midi from the es5?? I think if u got the gigrig-even the smaller one, you wouldnt need the airsteps. Tho placing the AS across the stage makes sense…
Hi Paul, with this pedalboard do you want to say, that drive simulation in Axe doesnt sound that good as real pedals? Or drive pedals are easiest component from old analog school to keep and be paired with Axe? How have you came to the conclusion to use real drive pedals rather than simple setup inside of Axe. Just curious. thanks for inspiration
@@TheStudioRats I also kept Duellist in front of Axe keeping it more organic. 🙂Do you run pedals mostly through clean fender type of Amps? Or also stacking with crunchy amps? As I can see do you use it with dual-amp and cab setup.
Very Nice video!! I love all your videos, Many Thanks!..Please, is it the Fractal AXE your latt device before interface to PC? Are you go direct with an interface to the PC right? And finaly you work with two same mono outputs, Out1 and Out2 from Fractal AXE to the PC inteface? Thank you!! Paul and The Studio Rats.
Great tones indeed. Seems awfully complicated to me... I've tried various combinations for ages, using amps, pedals modelers and what have you. Came back to basics with a simplified live rig: Guitar(s)->OD/Boost->Comp->Tremolo->Reverb->Delay, optionally having a Keeley 30MS Double Tracker for modulation effects. For home, after trying all sorts of software/apps, I limit myself to GarageBand on an iPad that might not have the bells and whistles of Logic Pro, but does its job and is quite satisfactory for what I do. The biggest problem I have is that I have developed Tinnitus for a while and that precludes all kind of playing. let alone loud, I can't play amplified without ringing in my ears and that is very disturbing. Either attenuation is too strong and I can't hear high frequencies, or too mild in which case I get spikes again... Catch 22 I don't wish to any musician. Spread the message and protect your biggest asset: your hearing ! Once it's gone, it doesn't come back... Cheers Paul
Sorry to hear about your Tinnitus Rene! Have you tried proper moulded earplugs? Some companies offer them with 20db volume drop but with full frequencies. We have a company here in the UK called ACS. I haven’t been impressed with their customer service but I use the plugs and have do for years and they’ve definitely saved my hearing.
@@TheStudioRats Thanks Paul. I do have moulded earplugs as you describe, that unfortunately came after the fact. When I put them on, I have to play too loud to balance the attenuation, which is a bit counterproductive at home… That’s why I use the iPad with a choice of amp sims that work quite well. Only problem is the vocals, as I have to use headphones for recording the voice without the interference of the backing instruments. I quite manage by keeping the volume very low and cutting the highs while monitoring, re-establishing the balance in the mixing process. Not for too long, cause then it creates ringing spikes again… Guess I still have to find the right compromise.
Dear Paul, I really Like your Style, technique and Sounds. Of course the Studio Rats Video are very interesting. Though Bring a Bass Player primarily I have a bunch of guitars as Well and completely switched to Boss Katana (Bass 110 and MKII 100) together with a Line 6 Pod Go Wireless. Earthquaker Palisades is amazing...and made in my home town of Ohio. Built in boost as well. The dispatch master is another killer pedal by them.
