    that's why it is always good to have some kind of hardware that shows you how many AMP or how many voltage are taken by the device it helps a lot to solve the problem

    with mosfets failing so often in laptop p/s, would be interesting to know typ failure mode (over temp, over current, voltage spike etc). then design steps could be taken to better protect, making laptops more reliable. again, great learning experience.

    I do not understand. Where did the current go to the battery. Through the gate?. Are we talking about the sudden current of 5 amperes or about 2 amperes

    Sorry for my stupid question, all the msofet are the same? can i replace any mosfet with any mosfet? for example change a pc mosfet by a lapttop mosfet?

    I don't understand , the laptop power on and there's video signal , so there's no need to remove that mosfet .

    Sorin i have a question, i wanted to post on the Forum but i didnt see where we can post. So Here is my question. 1. What is the effect of by passing a MOSFET using a jamper from the source to the drain incase the gate is not receiving Voltage or incase i don't have a replacement Mosfet. 2. I know there's an official Honnest ways of testing for a faulty MOSFET and you have taught us here on your platform many times. But I saw some test mosfets in DIODE mode. It was an N channel Mosfet and he put the Red probe on ground and Black probe on source and it was beeping and he concluded that it was a shorted MOSFET. And indeed it was shorted. So could this also be another way of testing a MOSFET?

    • @gorky_vk
      @gorky_vk ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In case of shorted mosfet where you put what probe is irrelevant, it will be (around) zero ohms in both direction. Diode mode will show diode junction in case of good mosfet in one direction (depending on mosfet type it will be one or another) but it will always be open in opposite direction.
      You can bypass second mosfet in most cases with wire and just rely on protection in charger in case of short (Sorin did that multiple times, that's how he get king of dodgyness award :D) but bypassing first one can make problem with charger as you saw in this case.

    a customer today brought an asus x541n/na laptop no powering on but just having steady red light from the charger, ive check all the voltage and all chokes, or vrm and ldo have the corresponding voltage but the cpu is none because the power button is not working even tried to short the connector doesnt work too. and my suspect is the 2nd input mosfet is semi faulty using diode mode both drain and source have a reading on diode mode but doesnt in buzzer and when plugging the adapter the cpu heatsink warms up little? do you think guys the cpu is shorted? the cpu vrm heats up too a little like the cpu but not that much probably warm.

    Sorry, it is not clear to me why when you plug the power supply the current is too high and then after few second returns at normal values, allowing to start (no the same with a charger as you explained since it shuts down instantly). Where is that high current going for few seconds? Thank you.

    • @electronicsrepairschool

      The battery overcurrent protection is disconecting the battery, that's why even if the laptop starts, the battery won't charge
