Yeah we have the bare minimum to legally fly. Would be pretty cool if larger jet aircraft had this kind of visibility but they have so much more capability with all the extra avionics that they don't even need to be able to see when they fly really
They have a GPS beacon on the ship that always shows me where it is. If that were to go down, we could use our radios and the ships radar to get back. Also on a good day, at 1500 feet,I could see the boat from about 30-35 miles away so you just gotta get close enough to see it

You should try snatching a couple tuna out of the water with those claws working the pedals
I prefer to use a fishing pole lol
So i have always wondered why they dont make prop and jet aircraft with this kind of high visibility cockpit.Yeah im no pilot so be kind.Just seems to me that most aircraft have rather poor visibility for the pilot. Does the helicopter really have that much less in avionics?
Yeah we have the bare minimum to legally fly. Would be pretty cool if larger jet aircraft had this kind of visibility but they have so much more capability with all the extra avionics that they don't even need to be able to see when they fly really
Where did u get your helmet??
That's a really nice boat
Oh yeah, it was probably the nicest ship out there
What music do you like the most while flying
It's all over the place. I've got chill step mixes, electronic, rap, rock, country, etc.
What is the name of this plane and its price ?
A question, as the ship is moving when you take off and go for a flight - how do you know where the ship is when you want to return?
They have a GPS beacon on the ship that always shows me where it is. If that were to go down, we could use our radios and the ships radar to get back. Also on a good day, at 1500 feet,I could see the boat from about 30-35 miles away so you just gotta get close enough to see it
@@sinfulldoubt That is a fantastic answer! Thank you very much 😊
@@elmar001 no problem!

It's funny because this job technically counts as wildlife survey and capture for insurance purposes
So, is he spotting Tuna Schools? or... How do I do this for a job?
Yup looking for the schools of tuna
What is the purpose of having a pedal that flips around?
We just use it to lock the tail rotor so it doesn't get so beat up by the wind
@@sinfulldoubt Okay, thanks. Is that feature common?
@@ToyotaGuy1971 yeah most helicopters I've flown have pedals that are removable like that. Just most people don't flip them around to lock them
@@sinfulldoubt Thanks.
What's the stuff made of that makes the white matt?
If you're talking about the pad I landed on? It's a thick rope
@@sinfulldoubt In the water. The stuff the fish hide under.
@@lightning9279 ah ok, yeah usually the top is a wooden wire spool with extra foam floaters on it and then a bunch of long lengths of fishing net tied together
@@sinfulldoubt Ah, thanks for the reply. 👍
what country is this out of and how does one go about looking for a job like this?
I was based out of Japan. But the helicopter company that contacted us out was based out of Guam
Could someone explain to me what the stopwatch is for?
It's for timing my flight. The start needs to be under a minute, the cool down is two minutes, I also have to be back on the deck by 2 hours. We're not supposed to trust the fuel gauge
@@sinfulldoubt thanks for the explanation!
@@incudine12 no problem!
Why flying from the left seat instead of the right?
That's just the way these ones are all set up
@@TFT-bp8zk PIC in a helicopter usually fly from the right seat. Tradition. Was wondering if there was a special reason for flying from the left.
@@tfogelson3139 Most, but not all, helicopters are designed that way. This is not one of them.
Wonder if this could be done with the new crop of drones?
They've tried it a few times before but from what I've heard they usually lose the drones within a few months
so is this an old ex military OH6A Scout helicopter?
Yeah most likely. It is an OH-6A
Did Hansen helicopters go belly up?
Still operating for now but there's a lot of anxious people waiting to see what happens
awesome vid, just a quick question;
is there any specific reason why you don't do a hover check?
thx :)
They always taught us not to hover over the deck. Just get away from the obstacles back by your tail rotor
@@sinfulldoubt I guess that's one of the wonders of flying naval, thx for the answer dude, I'm starting learning for the license was cool to get some knowledge. I also guess the md500 is about the best helo, odds wise with it's little list of components, for an immediate pick up to pan out well
@@Cutstalk oh yeah that's one of the good things about the 500. There's really no systems to check 🤣 as long as the engine is running, you're good to go
I saw it at Pacific Ocean many times, they work for Korean fishing vessel. Like Sajo Company
Oh yeah there's quite a few companies fishing out there
CGI will effortlessly render a scene every bit as photorealistic as this within 5 years.
Is the footage Inverted? Because usually the Helicopter Pilot's seat is on the left side and not the right but I can be mistaken. oh and What ship are you on, it's very awesome.
It really depends on the helicopter. This one I flew from the left side. A majority I fly from the right though

Nope I'm from the US
