I love the concept of "finding" adventures. Most people want to "go" on adventures, like finding a new place or area to explore. But when you say "finding adventures", its different. Finding adventures in places you have already explored and know about. I often go back to the forests and streams I would play in as a kid, and its always a unique experience when I go back because I am gaining new perspectives.
Love the way you tell your stories.

      @fishinwithish 3 ปีที่แล้ว +27

Its a shame where I had adventures when I was a kid are not possible to explore as an adult. Funny how being a child the world is basically given to you in every way possible then once you reach adult hood seems like the world is shut off to you in almost every way.

This film and Beau's walking commutes inspired me to give my on-foot commute a go. Preferring to avoid the highway I made a 24 mile route on mostly trail and ran home after a day's work just a few weeks ago. It took me about 4 hours and the wildflowers were stunning!

I didn't do something this extreme, but just started biking to work over the last 2 months. It's made the experience of going to work a lot more enjoyable. I'm no longer on autopilot during my commute. I start to notice many small things in the neighborhood that I usually miss. By the time I get to work, I'm more awake, alert, and in a better mood. The commute home is where it starts to get fun. I'm off in the early afternoon and the routes home are endless. Do I go for a nice cruise along the ocean? Make a huge climb up the mountain take some dirt/gravel trails? Ride along the reservoir? Typing this got me thinking of a video for you. You have done car, walk, and now kayak to work, why not bike? Now the time to get to work isn't going to be anywhere near as long as those last two, but what if you showed you can change your commute through nice detours or sights you want to see. Show that your commute doesn't always have to be on paved roads or the shortest routes.

Don't know why, loved this line.
Usually I too love walking instead of taking car or public transport. And when you walk, you notice every single detail on the route. When you drive, all you experience is either google map or irritating other drivers who think traffic rules are not made for them.

When I was 9-10 my aunt and uncle build a small raft with me. We went down the river that flows along our village.
A couple years later I went fishing there with my neighbour (ca.50yo). He wanted to show me where the river runs deep and where the fishes stay and hunt. I could tell he was wrong and showed him a couple of really deep parts that I discovered with my aunt and uncle. I could tell him where the river had formed hidden caves under the embankment and how the ground was shaped like.
Traveling down the river once had shown me much more about it than just walking along it for 30years.
    Great video, greetings from germany.

Just found your channel yesterday. I’ve noticed your ideas, like this commute, are similar to ideas I’ve had. I’ve found a lot of what you say speaking to me, especially this. I haven’t noticed it until now. Your videos light a fire in me to explore, be unashamed in it, and forget the excuses.

I moved to AU a number of years ago and it really surprised me just how much drier it was and how much smaller 'rivers' were. Aside from the big estuarine areas within a few km of the coast (all the major cities are situated along the largest rivers by the coast), there's not really much of the continent that is navigable by water. Even a tiny kayak has to be portaged much of the way until you get near the ocean. Makes you appreciate just how important water conservation is down under

Changing a simple commute to a place into a journey is now one of my favorite things to do and I don't think I would've thought to do it without a bit of inspiration from Beau. I'm still not the best runner but I have ran to pick up packages, medicines, and shopping for small things because they are close by car and good distance to run. It forces an appreciation for modern transport that is so easy to forget about and take for granted.

Hey Beau, wanted to thank you for inspiring me to find adventure where I am.
Spent yesterday paddling across the lake we stay at, exploring around, throwing up hammock tents and camping out.
Now, the night was absolute hell with mosquitoes, but it was worth it for the cracking 4am sun rise and paddling back on the mirror calm lake before the world woke up.

@@XxDaMettxX Maybe not adventure with a narration or goal like those channels (this one and GeoWizard), but I used to watch Joe Robinet although it's more about camping it's still really nice content.
Now that I think about it, there's a guy called "Brave Dave" (search "brave dave big fat freight hop") and he train hopped across Canada, it's actually a really good series of videos. Another one is Shiey who also travels by train (although not in the most legal sense, he's still a good guy) and explores countries.
Although Beau makes some of the best content I've seen, don't think there's someone quite like him on the site.

I think we forget about those childhood imaginations when we get older. When we become adults we forget what we wanted from our life when we were a child. All the things we wanted to do. I have turned 50 recently and I am so glad that I have done the things I have. I have always said I want to do that, and then I do it. A lot of people will never leave their home shire let alone their state or country. I am so pleased I have found your channel to remind me of those childhood ideals. The ones that say I want to do that one day. I'm going to apply for a job as a train driver now. It's the only thing I have never achieved from my childhood dream. I keep creating new dreams though and I achieve them. I am so pleased I found your channel (by accident mind you) Thank you. Paul

    Overused phrase; "inspirational".
    Definitely applies to you, Beau.
Not the whole motivation, but certainly an influence; I quit where I lived and moved to a Scottish island. 5 walk (towing a kayak) to the lochside. Even a one hour paddle takes me to new interesting vistas, every time. Walk from my door over ancient hummocky landscapes, spot signs of otters, and just breath.

From Drouin, I like to think it is my river too. I love spending time by it, though there be few spots where non-landowners can access it. It rages with rains, and trickles with drought. It is the local adolescent's beach and my fishing mate's escape. There are few people looking out for its health though ... thanks Mr Miles (I can't call you uncle, I am old enough to be your grandfather, but I hold a candle of respect to you young fella). 13.48 .... oh, and so many bloody willows, I had no idea there would be so many ! Later ... I love the view from above of the old river path when you get down towards the bay, where the buggers straightened out the river meandering through the old swamp-land to make it a straight drain draining the land as quickly as possible to make room for friggen' cows.
