I loved your thorough and very professional analysis! One of my favorite reactors for sure! When I first listened to Utopia I was thinking how hard it would be to perform it live,I definitely thought they would have to change some things to pull it through because as you yourself said it is a complex piece. But they did it live many times and to my ears,it sounds the same as the studio version. My suggestion for your next reaction to Forestella would be Snow Globe, another original composed by Kang Hyung Ho!

WOW!! WOW!! I hope Forestella members see this reaction. Their work and effort for 8 months did not go to waste. Sir Hairless gets it , and he is explaining it to the world!
Valensia Clarkson from Spain ( hence many Spain references) was asked to compose the music since he was heavily influenced by Queen. Valensia has a few videos in TH-cam explaining how he tried to put it together. Forestella wanted changes to adapt to their theme and style. So many changes were made. You will notice Kang Hung Ho’s name also in the credits. He and the other members tweeked it to fit Forestella’s vision. The video was put together during the pandemic and they creatively did a lot of it indoors. What a masterpiece! And we needed someone like you Sir, to break it down for us.
Forestella takes on the toughest projects and puts their all into it.
Thank you Sir, for the excellent reaction!

Utopia sung by Forestella.

When this song came out a few people were sceptical about how they would perform it live. But the live version of this blows me away because they nail every aspect of the song and they sound so close to the recording, it is incredible. Thank you for this analysis. This song does take a while to understand if im honest, but once you do it is really good. Also the final 3 acts havent been released yet, I think they will be out after the bass has finished his military enlistment. They released a kpop song called Kool which is kind of related but it doesn't follow on from any of the acts so I am not sure it is part of the trilogy.

Thanks a lot for this reaction/analysis to Forestella ❤❤❤❤ I was anxiously waiting for another reaction to them!
Yeah, you definitely right about the inspiration on Bohemian Rhapsody. It was a special request from Forestella to Valensia, a songwriter/composer that had already some work in that line since he is a fan of the Queen as well as the members of Forestella. The members made some adjustments to the lyrics together with the songwriter.
The idea of men and nature. What is utopia to men definitely is dystopia to the nature as we see today.
The idea is an integration between these parts to really create a world of utopia and well-being.
The third part of this trilogy is still to be done. In between we have a song named Kool that is a kpop song made as a promise from Forestella to SoopByeol (Forestella’s fandom) regarding the M/V Save Our Lives reach something like 900k views on YT. A completely change in style (not that Forestella has an unique style at all - they navigate through various genres and always with exceptional musicality as you already saw) but with Kool, that is a light and good vibe kpop song, they just assured us that they can sing whatever they feel to sing. It’ll be always good.
I liked a lot of your analysis as always. And I have learned from you about some details that I had skipped- and I watched this video lots of time already since it’s one of my favorites. I will enjoy it even more from now on. Thanks, again. 💙

Great reaction and analysis. This song grows on you the more you listen. They contacted the Dutch composer Valensia to compose this song. He has a huge Queen influence. I saw an interview where Kang Hyungh said it was even more complicated originally. They went back to him and asked him to rework it a bit. They ended up working together on the song. I think Forestella are listed as cowriters. I have seen a few videos of them performing this live. It was amazing ❤❤❤❤

The composer of this is Valensia. He has a Queen tribute album (I looked him up when this first came out because of the obvious Queen vibes.) Certain elements of this remind me of the multilayered sounds and classical feel of songs like by Mr Blue SKy ELO back in the day.

    • @SirHairless

  • @styxa

Valensia, the composer, lived many years of his life in the Valencian Community in Spain. That's (I guess) the reason for the many references to Valencia area in the song (beautiful place, by the way, really lovely).

After checking out their Bohemian Rhapsody, please check their covers in related concepts with their original songs as well. I believe they presented concepts connected with their covers for Inner Universe, Lazenca Save us with Save our lives (I'll say SOL).
And between SOL and UTOPIA, they said Bad Romance was a concept bridge. The Page Dance Project - the dancers in this UTOPIA m/v - collaborated from since their Bad Romance, Forestella themselves also involved in directing the choreos, like they had selected Dellomez dancers and directed the choreos when they covered Inner Universe in Phantom Singer All Stars.
They use instruments and choreos and everything for the perfection the artistry of their work.
I think they covered Kpop songs like Fake Love (of BTS) and MAMA (of EXO) to show the concepts of their trilogy better..please check the original songs first and then Forestella's versions to see better how they added their own colors. They have very good tastes in choosing a song to cover, I think it would be enjoyable for you!
They even danced although they are a classical crossover quartet, when the song needs dance to be completed. Check MJ's Smooth Criminal by Forestella which they had to practice their moves 6 hours a day, if you are interested in their dance talent!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this passionate reaction and fascinating analysis. You made me appreciate the song even more, which I didn't think was possible. 💚 The third part of the trilogy is still in the making. I'm immensely curious what it will be, but meanwhile, Save our Lives and Utopia work quite well as a two-parter, I feel. The apple here sort of turns into the universe at the moment of the bite, which leads back nicely to the beginning of Save our Lives, like a snake biting its own tail.
I very much recommend checking out Snow Globe which Forestella released last November and was composed by Kang Hyungho. It's my favourite.

Thank you for your wonderful review and analysis on this masterpiece of Forestella!
This is the 2nd part of their trilogy. You can see act 4~6 here. The 1st part was their Save our lives and you can find act 1~3 there. Some fans said the 3rd part is White Night, but I think White Night is out of trilogy because in the album description of KOOL which was released later than White Night, it was said "또한 'KOOL'은 세계수(World Tree) 3부작 시리즈 도중 발매하는 스핀 오프 싱글로, 세계관의 경계(Borderline)에 있어 이전 앨범의 여러 요소를 숨겨두었다. 이로 하여금 숨겨진 요소와 그 의미를 찾는 재미도 느껴볼 수 있을 것이다."
"KOOL came out in the middle of trilogy as a spin-off single." This is what I read, so I'm guessing the trilogy isn't finished yet.
The theme of the song was like Utopia for human beings might be dystopia for nature. And we need to find a way to co-exist because human beings are also a part of the nature.
In the end of Save our lives- their original song as well, previous of Utopia, you can see the World Tree was growing up. That concept of world tree of life is from Nordic myth's Yggdrasill so their concept and story is also a crossover of the biblical metaphors and nordic mythical symbols.. and they took the 4 elements idea of Aristotle in the Save our lives like each of Forestella is representing an element like the Fire, the Water, the Air and the Earth. Interestingly, their vocal ranges fit the elements for each too.
We can just guess and imagine stories, I think we can get everything clearer when the 3rd part is released.
The composer is a Dutch named Valensia who lives in Valencia in Spain. Forestella requested him to make an operatic part like Bohemian Rhapsody as Valensia was so strongly influenced by Queen, like to have made Queen tribute album himself. Actually his first demo version of Utopia was named Valencia, like Barcelona by Freddie Mercury and Monserrat Caballé, a hymn for Valencia. But Forestella changed the lyrics to suit their World Tree and Utopia concept. It's interesting that still we can find some names of local spots in Valencia, lol.
They had more than 17K takes and used more than 400 tracks for this one song. It took more than 2 months of recording as far as they said. As always they sound better in live, so check out their live performance in Mnet too!
This song is really addictive and became an earworm in my head like constantly

As a visual art graduate and storytelling fanatic I notice so many amazing things from the lyrics, narratives, visuals of the MV but clueless when it comes to sound/musical interpretation. Your extensive analysis on one of my favourite Forestella's pieces is very satisfying as you talk about it on multiple elements yet staying on the similar track as mine but much more in depth.
Please do Snow Globe too! The tune, lyrics, theme, their voices, absolutely lovely. Kang HH, the rocker/counter tenor composed it and the whole members were involved in writing the lyrics too.

I think you better check Forestella Queen's best songs compilation video on KBS Jeonju channel as soon as possible. That has the very first Bohemian Rhapsody by them, which made Forestella known to the world. You might already have had found Mystique encore concert live version, it's very dark so hard to see their face expression in the song there.

The creative geniuses who thought of this World tree concept and put the music and videos together have to be commended and encouraged. Forestella has proven that they can sing just about anything! The most perfect quartet. We don’t often come across geniuses like these in several decades. Let’s support and encourage them the best way we can.
After Utopia Forestella set aside the apple for a while and put out a spin off called “ KOOL” to cater to the people who like popular music and dance numbers.
But the folks who get their artistry and understand the complexity need to encourage them to bring out masterpieces like these! Those that will be studied for generations and stand the test of time!

I am foaming at the mouth for the final installment!!
You are the only reviewer that I’ve seen so far that has mentioned the segments of the song switching their order. I could have done a back flip when you said it. ❤
And people talk all the time about Hyungho’s Bb5 in Champions or Mingyu’s C6 in Magic Castle… but NO ONE mentions Doohoon and that beautifully effortless C#
The Composer that Forestella chose for this is Valensia, and I’m sure they hired him for his heavy Queen influence. (Have you seen Forestella’s cover of Bohemian Rhapsody? I remember you did Pentatonix, but not sure if you did these boys).
Other Forestella songs I would love to see you review:
    Lazenca, Save Us
    Inner Universe
    Snow Globe (written by Hyungho)
And I will always recommend Cho Mingyu’s Balada de la Trompeta

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!! (Yes, I actually screamed!)
    I watched this reaction twice!
YOU ARE SO GOOD IT HURTS 😭
I told you so much happens in this song, first time I listened I didn't know what to think about it but after listening to it several times, it grows on you, and actually sounds really nice once you know how it goes.
The level of details you caught here, both musically and with the video, man I watched this probably dozens of times if I am honest and some of the things you referred to I never noticed!
Like the girls with the faces covered, or the high sounds with two different instruments form high to low, also I never realized they inverted the order of two sections of the songs from Act4 to Act5, that's crazy. I'm mind blown!
You are my favorite reactor... I literally un-subbed from so many reactors cause after getting used to your level no one's reactions satisfy me anymore!
I hope they don't hate you cause since you appear I am pretty sure I am not the only one who feels this way.
GAAAAAHHHHH, know that my next request will be the third part of the trilogy so you can already write that down. AND I CAN'T WAIT.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for all the time you dedicated to this request and for your appreciation for all music, I like it or not, I love your passion for all genres and opportunity to all sounds. You are great! Don't change!
    Lupe.-

I just would like to add a comment here: it seems to me - according to many fans ascertained - White Night is not part of the trilogy although it is in the same ideological line, let's say. Some fans have already left comments here explaining why and I have the same understanding. But it's definitely a matter of interpretation and White Night is a wonderful song. 💕🙏🏽

I can only speak for their English & Italian songs but their English & Italian is immaculate.. their words are clear, their faces & nuances make you feel that they understand every word they are singing & I feel that the musicians accompanying them need a mention too.

One of my absolute favorite pieces from FORESTELLA. And what vocals!! I don't think many vocalists can withstand this level (and they also perform it live)! It's like looking into a kaleidoscope - all small individual parts - but together a very complex reflection of our destructive selfish "fun society"" with all its consequences. "Utopia" never gets boring, there is always something new to discover. A very creative and passionate, crazy concept, coordinated down to the smallest detail. My greatest respect to everyone who worked together to create this audiovisual masterpiece. Also thanks to you and your amazing perceptive skills and first-class analysis.

Wow. I just binged all of your Forestella reactions. I usually skip the analysis of music by other reactors if it gets too long, but I stayed for every little second of your commentary. You have the amazing ability to entertain and educate at the same time!! Thank you so much for your reactions. I hope you will continue to react to Forestella. Personally, I can't wait for you to react to songs where Kang Hyungho's rock voice and Bae Doohoon's pop voice shines! For your convenience, here's a little list of their most popular cover performances:
    • Bohemian Rhapsody
    • Despacito
    • Lazenca Save Us
    • Time in a Bottle
    • Champions (Champions League Anthem)
    • We are the Champions (Queen)
    • Shape of You
    • Inner Universe
...and theres so many more, but these are my favs.
Tbh I am sad that they didn't finish the trilogy before Woorim's military enlistment... but I guess it gets me counting down the days until they are together as four again. The hype is real 😂

Forestella wanted a "rock opera" like "Bohemian Rhapsody" and commissioned Valensia Clarkson, a Dutch multi-talent, very influenced by "Queen", to compose it. The vocalization is by FORESTELLA itself (directed by Kang HyungHo) and in coordination with Valensia. According to everyone who really appreciated each other, the vocalization was a long and very difficult but very successful process. In the first version, the composer referred to Valencia, the city in which he lived, but the lyrics had to be adapted to fit FORESTELLA's visions. (Migrants often get stranded around Valencia in Spain, known for its “party culture”, so a few “catchphrases” from the original form were appropriately adopted). I really hope that there will be further cooperation.

Still a bit in shock & amazement… what a massive project this was for them (AND you!).. who ever found this in their mind and put it to paper!?? A stunning piece (or trio of trio of pieces) musically and imagery. Felt like I was experiencing someone’s schizo-scherzo musical nightmare-dream of a psycho-drama with skillful yet confusing storytelling?? With that ending (prelude-tease), I’m already bracing for the finale. But not right away, gonna need a minute. I cannot begin to imagine how long this took you to R/A and then put into words for us… but all your work and insights are very appreciated. Just wow. Seriously, did they come up with this all themselves? Obviously with many resources. I need to pay closer attention to what I’m planning to listen to at night before sleep. Curious how long it took them from concept to completion. Amazing work, them and you also.

So, my friend, some of the previous commenters, explained who wrote this masterpiece. Would love to hear Forestella explain this in detail! Again, you, and your understanding is staggering! They had a phrase of “ Tierra Oscura”, which means dark earth, in Spanish. Could it be that Forestella’s “Utopia” REALLY IS NOT. Sounds too CHAOTIC and perhaps a touch macabre??? Just my own personal thought. What does anyone else think?

  • @lauramorarles3660
