Now that you are returning to the past, I think you WILL LOVE "Forestory", a 3 -part documentary made by a fan, an as you already said in this video: one already knows the result ... but seeing how Forestella formed is absolutely beautiful
the judges during Mingyu's performance said: "I love his facial expression" and "his voice is beautiful". After his performance the grey haired guy said he never heard a tenor with such a youthful and beautiful tone. The long haired judge is a musical theatre actor, a Korean-American, he told Mingyu in English that his voice sounds like the sun is coming out.
Please watch and react to the three part Forestory. You will be surprised and shocked at how close at times Forestella almost didn’t happen. How one member put in a lot of work for it to happen. It will also give you an overview of how the competition works. FYI Kang HyungHo continued to work during PS2 and was therefore commuting from Busan to Seoul to take part. Also Kang HyungHo’s solo performance for Immortal Songs of Phantom Of The Opera is a must watch.
Their auditions were so incredible. I'll admit there were some other wonderful singers....but, let's face it, FORESTELLA became with these auditions! Even then you can see just how hard each one of them worked! Thank you for your wonderful reaction!!
I just saw a video where Pitta says he had a hard time in the beginning 'cos people were criticizing him via DM and letters for not being good enough, for being an amateur singer who didn't have a major in music. My heart cried for him, how can people be some mean and small??
But you know the saying…SUCCESS IS THE BEST REVENGE . I think we can all agree that HyungHo is a wonderful success in the field he chose and really if he looks back on his life so far, he was always a success because he was doing the right things, and those activities brought him to the 2017 audition. His scientific background and analytical mindset is one of FORESTELLA’s secret weapons together also with his years of experience of being in rock-bands part-time. He has the most successful solo act as PITTA in the group so far. . He uses those skills as their vocal arranger and vocal director and producer. Most of the mean things people say are usually motivated by narrow-mindedness, ignorance, insecurity and jealousy. BECAUSE if he wasn’t good enough how come Forestella went on to win a very competitive singing contest to form a a crossover group that is streamed in 176 out of 178 countries?! How come they are the most successful crossover group winning awards, being invited to open mega K-pop award shows and being recognised by the Korean government as a contributor to the arts and uses them for many official events. A group can’t do this if everyone isn’t at their best, right?! How come he has viral TH-cam and TikTok videos of his audition and that MBN performances of Phantom of the Opera…the list goes on and on. There will always be cruel people who lead sad lives, and sometimes ignoring them works and sometimes countering with truth in action works. I only wish he’d shared that with his brothers earlier…probably fueled his workaholic nature trying to prove himself worthy. Also, Bae Doohoon did not major in music, but went for a Bachelor of Arts degree , Musical theatre and he majored in acting instead. But like HyungHo, Doohoon was guest frontman for gukak
bands like Sorea and Aux and had other stage performances, for years before Phantom Singer 2, but cleverly he had never really bothered much with social media..always protecting his mental well-being by not even reading his theatrical reviews.😊

The term "class" mentioned by Kang Hyung-ho should indeed have been translated as "level." It does not mean that he came from a poor background without wealth (Busan is a major city). His concern stemmed from not having a background in music like other participants, fearing that it might lower the level of this audition. To understand this comment, it's better to know that just before Kang Hyung-ho, there was a participant with exceptional talent who had followed the path of a classical musician and succeeded in opera in Italy : )

Woorim did not get chosen at that time. Just like Doohoon with his audition, he basically went home thinking he blew it, and when they needed to fill out the roster of 32, they brought Woorim and Doohoon back in to compete.

I think you confused information with Season 1. (In Season 1, the contestants who were ultimately eliminated and returned to their respective homes were called back. However, this did not happen at all in Season 2.)

Woorim and Doohoon did not walk out of that audition room with masks. They were not selected until they were filling out the roster and the judges looked over all of the candidates they didn't accept and chose 5 of them to make the count 32.

In fact, Woorim barely passed first stage and was eliminated twice afterwards. Mingyu knew his potential and liked his personality and was able to « rescue » him twice for his team. Thanks to Mingyu we now have this magnificent base to listen to! There is a 3 part short documentary on TH-cam called « Forestory », part 1-2-3. It takes you through the whole contest, every stage they had to go through, the times Mingyu rescued Woorim, when Hyungho introduced Rock in this otherwise classical contest. It is very well done. ohhhhhh the parts where they were critiqued were cut out. NOT surprisingly the judges initially LOVED hyungho and mingyu. but VERY surprisingly they liked but were not overwhelmed by doohoon. and they were downright critical of woorim, which pissed me off muchly! hyungho and mingyu sailed through this initial try-outs round but doohoon and woorim didn't even make it! they didn't get through until (thank the gods and goddesses) a later wildcard round!

But they ultimately won. This is because they had infinite potential and great talent, and the judges eventually recognized this. And many fans who voted for them highly evaluated Woorim and Duhoon's abilities.

Doo-hoon and Woo-rim were left as candidates for the finals and then advanced to the finals at a later date.
Therefore, the statement that they were eliminated is a misconception.

Even though they nailed their first auditions in front of the producers as you can see, I'm more impressed by the fact that they have continued to grow more even after that, during the whole audition and their journey as a group. I'm so happy you reacted to this! I love it when people learn more about how Forestella formed. I would recommend watching Phantom Singer, but unfortunately it doesn't have English subtitles. I still watched it, but you definitely miss a lot when you don't know what anyone is saying. There's a video series called "Forestory" that shows Forestella's Phantom Singer journey in 3 parts (with eng subs), I'd highly recommend checking it out! There's also a playlist by THE FORESTELLA of Forestella cuts from Phantom Singer 2, including both performances and behind the scenes.
Ko Woorim actually wasn't initially a favorite. He was criticized for a lack of control of his intensity, but he was told he had a lot of potential. He didn't make it through immediately during auditions, and became a candidate for elimination, but he was brought back with an extra pass. He then lost his 1:1 battle, once again becoming a candidate for elimination, but surviving the round. Mingyu saw Woorim's potential, so he sought him out as his duet partner for the 2:2 battle, which they won. Mingyu and Woorim stayed together for pretty much the entire season (except the random team switching round), and Mingyu became a mentor to him. There's a funny compilation of Mingyu being Woorim's "demon mentor".
Kang Hyungho stood out a lot in the beginning because he was an amateur with such an insane voice. He was a chemical engineering major in university, and as you saw in the video, he worked at a petrochemical company. He did have a bit of music background, and sang in an amateur rock band but unfortunately, his lack of training led to some issues in the earlier rounds (self esteem issues as well as struggling with Italian pronounciation). He had to work really hard to survive. He was the last member to join Forestella. The other three members were together for a large portion of the season, but Hyungho bounced around from team to team before finally joining. The random team switching round put him in a quartet with Mingyu, which acquainted him and Mingyu. This new bond led to him joining Forestella.
Cho Mingyu definitely stood out, and he was heavily praised during auditions. He consistently performed very well throughout the season, winning his 1:1 and 2:2 battles. Due to this, he was often able to choose his teammates. He got the nickname "the strategist" because of his insane ability to analyze his teammates, competitors, and the judges/audience. When it came time to pick duet partners, he decided he wanted to "save Woorim". They became a force to be reckoned with, and eventually brought Doohoon onto their team.
Bae Doohoon struggled in the beginning. Like Woorim, he became a candidate for elimination at the auditions, and was brought back with an extra pass. He quickly built his way back up, winning the 1:1 battle and performing extremely well in the 2:2 battle. He wound up losing the 2:2 battle to Mingyu and Woorim (very narrowly), but they were so impressed with his performance that they picked him as the third member of their team. They wound up sticking together for the rest of the season (once again, random team switching round is the exception).
Aside from Forestella, I would love it if you reacted to sEODo band! They won JTBC's competition Poongryu, which is a Korean traditional music competition. They pioneered the genre Joseon Pop, which is a mix of indie pop and Korean traditional music like pansori and gugak. The singer and leader of the band is named Seo Jae-Hyun and he performs under the name sEODo . He's been singing pansori (a form of traditional Korean music/storytelling) since he was 5 years old. In university, he studied applied music and majored in pansori and practical composition. The drummer is Yang Jung-Hoon, the keyboardist is Kim Seong-Hyun, the guitarist is Yeon Tae-Hee, the percussionist is Park Jin-Byeong, and the bassist is Kim Tae-Joo. I'd recommend checking out the songs 매일 매일 기다려 (maeil maeil gidaryo), 바다 (bada - translates to sea), and 뱃노래 (baetnorae - translates to boat-song). Here are the links to their performances:

The statement ‘Unfortunately, there is a lack of training’ was not said anywhere on the broadcast and is only your personal judgment and opinion.
Distinguish between ‘facts’ and ‘opinions.’
2,
It is not true that Min-gyu chose Hyeong-ho and took him to become Forestella. The final 12 people who advanced to the finals each wrote down their desired team members on a piece of paper and submitted it to the production team.
The production team then assembled the final team members.
Min-gyu wrote down Hyeong-ho's name, but Woorim and Doo-hoon did not write down Hyeong-ho's name, and even Hyung-ho did not write down the names of any Forestella members.
The production team added their opinions based on the opinions of all participants, so it is not logically correct to say that Min-gyu took Hyeong-ho.
Because Mingyu is not the team decision maker.

1. Although they never used these terms in the broadcast, I believe them to be applicable. Hyungho struggled with his Italian pronunciation due to his lack of opera training. The opera singers he was surrounded with had no problem with this, as they were used to singing in Italian for their professions. I also mention this because his lack of training negatively impacted his confidence a lot. I will edit my comment to include a bit of clarification on what I meant.
2. Yeah, I know how the voting process works. I'll try to change my wording a bit, I meant that if he wasn't on a team with Mingyu, Mingyu wouldn't have written his name down during the selection, and Hyungho would've wound up in a different group.
3. Although I never specifically stated that he placed first every time, I'll definitely reword this to get across the meaning a bit better. As for my comment on the judges liking him from beginning to end, I believe that holds true. Yes, he received criticism, but they still liked him, and if I recall correctly, he was never a candidate for elimination. I will edit my original comment though.

1. No, he didn’t participate as an opera singer. He sang an Italian song. There is literal footage of him in rehearsal struggling with pronunciation. It didn’t affect the performance, but it made rehearsal more difficult for him. Also, there is also video proof that he was insecure due to his lack of training. During the auditions, Julian and another singer were discussing vocalization and HyungHo stated that he wasn’t even sure if he was producing sound correctly and that he was worried his voice would sound “fake” because he’s just imitating other peoples sound.
2. Yes, the teams were determined by the production team, but if Mingyu, Doohoon, and Woorim all wrote each other down and not HyungHo, he wouldn’t be in the same group. There’s a reason they vote. If Hyungho went to another team, it obviously wouldn’t be Mingyu’s choice. And it obviously wasn’t 100% Mingyu’s choice that Hyungho joined Forestella, but he was the only connection Hyungho had to the team, so I think it’s fair to say that Mingyu played a part in that. If Hyunho had no connections to the other three members, he wouldn’t have been placed on their team. I know Mingyu doesn’t have any more of a say than the other participants, I’m not dumb. Once again, all participants have a say in this. They vote for a reason. The final decision is production’s choice, but the participants all play a major role in the team selection. I won’t be altering my comment any further.

Kim Joo Taek, (Julian Kim) who the video mentioned is a well known opera singer, both in Korea and Europe. He was also a contestant and ended in another quartet, Miraclass. I think his presence intimidated a lot of contestants.
During the season in eliminations, he had one duet with Bae Doohoon. I think it was fantastic , but glad Bae ended up with Forestella and not Miraclass or other quartet. In PS all-stars, he had a duet with Cho Mingyu - Rosalina. In another concert, he had an opera duet with Ko Woorim.
Would love your reactions to Julian and Miraclass and also when he sings with members of Forestella.
While Forestella remains my favorite among all the quartets, I enjoy Miraclass. As well as the other winners of Phantom Singers.

This might not be seen, but I hope you would react to Yuki Kajiura's project, Kalafina and FictionJunction. If you like Forestella's harmony, I'm sure you'll be blown by theirs. My suggestion is Sprinter from Kalafina (Ending theme for the anime Kara no Kyoukai/Garden of Sinners) and In the Land of Twilight, Under the Moon from FictionJunction (OST from anime .hack//sign). Those are some of the coolest vocal work I've ever heard.
