Another suggestion is to further extend to Marina Centre via 960, but cut the 960 to Queen Street again; so that the throughput of having a bus service from Marina Centre to Jurong East/Bukit Batok is there in the first place. And, 170 could have shortened to Beauty World, the physical constraint of having DD was there - Woodlands/JB Checkpoints. I don't know about 972M either, but it is a merger of 171 (southern part), 700/700A and 971. I did not see the load of 972M and it is very low in between Stevens, Newton & Orchard stations.
