With a heavy bomber and long range the Luftwaffe could have reached beyond the Ural Mountain Range and diminished the Soviet capacity for producing war materials. Very short sighted. (But that's ok!)
Yes. But it also would have been more chances for the Russian air force to shoot them down as the German fighters would not have had the range to go with them, like the Battle of Britain.
The US was working on a Bomber that could have reached Germany from bases in the US, the B-36. But once we knew England was safe, the B-36 was delayed and the US built a lot more small bombers than one big one.
Indeed, I'm sure the Brits would be stunned to discover the Americans were designing the. "England Bomber" in the form of the B-36 Peacemaker, intended to bomb Nazi-occuppied England. The B-36 was still only on paper when Hitler abandoned the "Sea Lion" invasion plan. Emphasis then turn to the B-29 Superfortress.
The allies were already in and using the Azores anyway. Portugal allowed the Allies to use the Azores as a base party to preclude Germany from thinking they might try to take them. There was an old treaty with Britain that made this 'legal' even though Portugal was a neutral county.
Bigger Issue still is they would have had no Escorts short of some odd parasite fighter on some of the bombers or something launched by U-boats. In short once the US established its own chain home and fighters to reach the bombers it would have been crippling to the bombers for no gain short of the use of poison Gas.
The Me 264 had a range of 12.000-15.000 km (9.000 miles). Enough to fly to New York and back. The technology was available- the Americans werde planing bombers to attack Nazi-Germany directly from the USA. The Me 264 was the first plane with fuel tanks in the wings. The later projects with 6 engines or jet-engines were planned to attack Chicago and fly back.
24 tons is 48,000 pounds. A ton is 2,000 pounds. Maybe you were refering to metric tons(I don't know how many pounds are in a metric ton). I wonder why there are a different number of pounds in a metric ton.
Oh no! TH-cam's algorythm is going to think there's some funky furry stuff going on here! Wait until I start talking about big Fokkers and little Fokkers...
Sorry but most of my literature is in those units. Also, as a Canadian pilot, I still work with feet, pounds, gallons, mph, knots and inches of mercury! Lastly, American viewers and listeners pay most of the bills, so I’m going to cater to them! Have a nice weekend. It’s sunny and 24C here!
The whole idea behind the Amirka bomber was flawed from the start Even if bombers were built that could cover the distances It is doubtful that the American fighter aircraft would have allowed them to return without major losses
True but that was the whole issue in WW II was the leftover idea that the bomber will always get through. It would have been more about resources kept at home to defend the US, actual destruction of cities would have created demands to protect the US 1st. In the end it would have just dragged the war on for a few more years, at best. An ICBM based on the V2 would have been better, but still Germany would have lost in the end.
He 277 - "Oh Good GRIEF!" ..it's got 4 engine in their own narcels ! :D

Yes it could have if there were no mechanical problems and the Russians would just stand by and let them fly deep into their air space uncontested
Learning more about the Focke Wulf multi-engine heavy aircraft was very enjoyable Brian. Thank You again and Best Wishes to You and Yours.
Glad you enjoyed it!! Thanks!
Looks like a sound design.

Totally agree about the beautiful condor. The bird it is named after however, not so much!
No way the Azores could have been used as a base, far to vulnerable

Idea utópica para esa época, sin reabastecimiento en vuelo y aviones cazas escolta sería un viaje sin retorno.

7:55 well if Pearl Harbor is anything to judge by Germany may have been.......🍄
Why would Germany get to stage any bombing raids from the Portuguese Azores? Portugal was a neutral country in WW2.
Early on Germany was allowed to use the facilities. I supposed they could have seized them later!
@@worldofwarbirds, Germany was never, ever, allowed the use of facilities in the Azores islands.
Fascinating

Not quite. An Imperial (British) ton, also referred to as a long ton, is 2240 lb. As it happens, that is only 2% more than a metric tonne.
Well they would have had to take the Azores first
Yup. Although I understand that at the start they allowed Germany to use the island.
Sounds like you are saying "fuck a wolf". The transcript writer thinks so !😮

Dude, you need a long sit-down with Greg...Seems as if your attribute may be saying "Fuck a wolf."
Who’s Greg?
@@worldofwarbirds lol! Good one
Die US Jäger hätten keinen einzigen durchgelassen.
Ja, ich glaube, das wäre ein Selbstmordkommando gewesen.
Your "imperial units" are ridiculous and outdated.
Please use km (kilometers), and km/h (kilometers per hour).

@@worldofwarbirds :
Your "explanation by money" is understandable ...
Why don't you write :
* 483 km/h (= 300 miles per hour)
* 30 m (= 98 feet) ?

Germany may have faired better if wasn't for all the crazy plane and tank ideas and they just focused on making what worked
@@920utdoor Which is what the US did.
It was definitely a flawed concept to say the least, a really stupid idea, given the level of technology available at that time.
To many pointless commercials. 🙄
Sorry- I have no control over those. They DO help support the podcast though...
I heard this was as junky as what the Italians were building at the same time. You always have to remember the germans lie alot.

Nonsense.
