Well, that was totally different from the original story! Very atmospheric though. I didn’t know that this series was an Anglia production (my local regional ITV company), it has aged better than Tales of the Unexpected. A John Barry theme tune and directed by Hammer’s Alan Gibson, an impressive credit list for little Anglia TV from Norwich.
*At @STEVEFBS* Thank you so very much for the series upload. I have feverishly watched it, and it's now come to an end. Though, I peeked at your other videos and surely will find more. Wow!!!! Two geniuses for the price of one: Welles should need no introduction; the author of the original story--O. Henry--was one of the greates short story writers of all time.
Anglia were a small regional station compared to Thames, ATV and Granada but they (along with Southern) had some powerful backers, like the Colman family (Mustard) and weren't afraid to throw money on big names. Pity they were so stingy on their quiz shows like Sale Of The Century though!
Nicolas Parsons who hosted Sale of The Century, explained that the ITA had instructed Anglia to limit prizes & cash to less than £800 which meant cars could only be ' bog standard' Austin Minis, Imps & Escorts. However when the ITA became IBA the cash prize limit increased & slightly more exotic cars appeared! This coincided when more ITV regions took the show & transmitted it at peak time- Thursday evening or Saturday teatime. Anglia productions were quite good quality.
@@darganx Well indeed as far as SURVIVAL and TOTU were concerned Anglia did invest on big star names from Hollywood and the U.K. entertainment industry to appear on those. And for me none came bigger than the one and only Telly Savalas in a episode of TOTU filmed in Anglia’s region of Norwich!
I thought it was Sir Trevor MacDonald, a very, very well-known news reader here in G.B It' was his accent at the very beginning. Before the fake American twang took over. Lol
I have to comment. What is with the glimmer in the Afro and the facial hair on the primary actor? Was he caught in the rain, or was this stylish back then? 🤷🏻♀️

@christophermartin7927 Yes very observant but I can say I vaguely remember these as a young'un in the 70s, a precursor to Tales Of The Unexpected. In the early 80s there was a video revolution, with archived shows reformatted for VHS - this may have been the case for this mix up.

Alfred Hitchcock started it all with his series then everyone followed on with his success.
@ Hey Mark, yes I’ve seen those, small read the books years ago too. My personal favourites are the Amicus movies.
Hey, it's Link from the Mod Squad and his hair is sparkling like diamonds.

@@gplunk it's set in NYC, the episode. thats why the landlady has that weird Mae West in Manhattan -- via Kensington -- accent.
Well spotted.
Love Orson Welles, he was unique, never be anyone like him.
He has a son with Vampira while he was married and she gave it up for adoption.
Great to see these again. Thank you so much.
Thanks! ❤
These stories are really comfy, cozy and Orson Welles was such a handsome devil
I LOVE Orson's narrator voice.
Especially on Rikki Tikki Tavi animated.

Irene Worth was an American actress who spent much of her acting career in the U.K. which explains her mid-Atlantic accent.
