Thank you for this dive into Gojira. I had respect for them already, and now even more! I didn't know they started recording back when (I thought they were "new" in 2010, but had already been around for a decade!), and mad respect for them sticking to their guns and writing what they love and feel. It certainly has paid off!
Gojira is one of the 2 bands that got me into Extreme Metal - the other one being Death. Went again thru their releases a couple months back, there was some material I missed from my initial acquirement of their output. This is gonna be a great Doc,I'm sure of it,cannot wait.
First hearing From Mars to Sirius when it came out was a flooring experience. While I may have fallen off of most their output after The Way of All Flesh these guys deserve every bit of attention they've earned.
Your channel has become my workout background go to. I hate working out, but love this type of content so it helps me get it done. Your channel is the best I have found and it’s almost perfectly timed to my workout routine! ❤
Thank you man, really. I was looking forward to this and tbh I was even more surprised about gojiras past. Literally started listening to these guys 4 months ago and can't get over Terra incognito.
One of my top 5 bands has some recognition now and it feels great. The success they're seeing is amazing, at heart as you said they're a spiritual band. Thank you so much for including the book The tibetan book of living and dying in this video. After death there is a soul and life has only begun, thank you for this doc brother!
Long live the mighty Gojira I've seen them 11 times since 2006 the last time just some months ago in Massachusetts I'm a drummer of 41 yrs and when I happened upon them Mario Duplantier opened my eyes like very few players have For me he redefined syncopation double bass and the use of cymbals as tasty fills instead of just skins work They deserve every ounce of success they've achieved and according to Mario in a recent interview the new album is going to be crushingly heavy and technical Thx for the vid man
Gojira are great French metal ambassadors but France extreme metal scene is more focused into black metal with unique bands like Deathspell Omega, Blut Aus Nord, Seth, Glaciation or Vehemence.
Entombed? The band that is widely considered to be the primary pioneering band for the Swedish Death Metal sound? Whose debut is hailed as possibly that scene's highlight? They are very esteemed in the Death Metal scene from my experience.
Thanks for the doc, this is one of my fav bands it became like that when I listened to the Magma album just after it was released then I got back to their previous albums, it was just a rabbit hole I couldn't avoid. I know they are called tech death metal, but their sound is so unique that I could only say it's the Gojira sound and that's it.
"The album itself is classed as death metal, experimental metal and groove metal, but honestly it's just epic as fuck". Could not have put it better myself!
I just realised that The Way of All Flesh singles are completely forgotten live while The Art of Dying or Toxic Garbage Island are played a lot. For me they are the best prog metal band out there.
I have been listening to Gojira since 06 or 07. I remember seeing the Flying Whales video on HBB and thinking I had changed the channel to IFC. Enjoyed this because, as long as I have been jamming this band. I haven't done a whole ton of digging into them. Just an interview here and there. Never thought I would see them where they are today. But what can you do but fucking grin about that?
Missed the premiere, terrible. Let's see...mentioning Alcest was cool BUT not Deathspell Omega is kind of head-scratching. Your poser score is raised to 8,good job, sir. Got nothing to add on why I love this band,so I'll put in some filler text. :)) The Godzilla demos are pretty sick DM,very cool. Pointing out the supppsed effect Immortal may have had on Gojira is actually a quite astute observation as their first 2 records were very focused on atmosphere, which is more of a Black Metal thing. The Link being looked down upon is quite absurd,it's an unique element in their discography. From Mars To Sirius is pretty much a very sludgy, technical and groovy Death Metal album, but not lacking atmospherics, especially considering the interlude tracks. The follow-up teeters even closer to Tech Death. Also,I wouldn't call Blooddrunk unique by any means, just a very Groove oriented Melodeath album. Weird how you call Mario underrated,I hear his name really every single time the band is mentioned.
Gojira being the first metal band perform on the opening show of the Olympics. Look for Jambinai - Time of Extinction on the 2018 Olympics in South-Korea. The question is: Is Jambinai a metal band? If yes, then they would likely be the first. Really worth checking out.
3:43 Jean-Michel is not the original bassist! It was Alex Cornillon, who recorded bass for Victim and Possessed, and Jean-Michel joined in 1998, playing on Saturate and everything since.
If I mentioned every single band that people in the comments section said "not mentioning these bands" the video would literally be 5 hours of just me mentioning bands that everyone thinks should be mentioned
The entire point in mentioning them is they are not Metal or relevant to Metal. Hence the preface of "biggest artists to come out of France or French singing artists" and not "biggest Metal artists from France".
Omg you could have namedropped any metal legends from Québec (Voivod, Quo Vadis, Anonymus, Augury, etc) but noooooo, you had to mention Céline Dion 😆 This has to stop. French Canadian bands and musicians have a LOT to offer in terms of quality and variety, yet it's always just boiled down to fkn Céline, which is arguably the *worst* we have given to the world.
There are plenty of vegan metal musicians it's just not an interesting topic. I've been vegan for 19 years, I have zero interest in talking about it in the videos I make.
@@RAWMUSICTV Yeah, but unlike other vegan musicians Gojira actively promotes veganism and animal rights in their music. And activism is just a big part of their existence which seems more relevant than spending 5 minutes on a fan theory what From Mars to Sirius is about. It really feels as if you're just reading a script generated by Chatgtp
@TheGunkTv If you can't tell the difference between a script generated by ChatGPT (which I've never used in my life) and actual music journalism (including research) then you might want to check out PunkrockMBA instead.
You know I don't know why I never did but after watching this documentary I actually checked out Gojira (again, I have no idea why I never did). Well I'm glad I did because, holy shit, now I fuckin love them. Thanks man! 👍
"We were told we had to stop singing death metal and to sing in French"
A fate worse than death
Can see why they moved to NYC. Lol
Brootal
Gojira's album L'Enfant Sauvage deserves a bit more attention as I think their career really took off with it
Thank you for this dive into Gojira. I had respect for them already, and now even more! The way of all flesh got me into gojira , such a good album , they have no bad albums
Got into Gojira late when I saw the video for Silvera. Mario is an insane drummer and his creativity is incredible.
Thank you sir. Glad this band is finally getting their shine 🤘

Ohhh ma’men you mentioned Johhny Hallyday and Noir Desir! You are no.1,an true music connoiseur!Merci!
I actually love Johnny Hallyday
@@RAWMUSICTV don’t tell me,i’m an huge fan!Such an complete artist,with a movie star life!R.I.P Johnny!❤️
"... but honestly, it's just epic as fuck" is the correct genre.
I didn’t get into Gojira until 2024 but I’m glad I did cause they’re amazing!
First hearing From Mars to Sirius when it came out was a flooring experience. While I may have fallen off of most their output after The Way of All Flesh these guys deserve every bit of attention they've earned.

@RAWMUSICTV WHAT ABOUT HANGMAN'S CHAIR?
yo it's the same for me! peak workout content!
Thank you man, really. I was looking forward to this and tbh I was even more surprised about gojiras past. Literally started listening to these guys 4 months ago and can't get over Terra incognito.
Damn, hearing from Joe's perspective what FMTS theme is intended to be makes me appreciate this band so much more. Thanks for these deep dives AC

I love Gojira. Finally saw them live and they were just so technically on point.
Love these vids ya gotta do entombed I really think that was a great band that didn't get enough recognition
I saw them live away back in the 90s, good band!
Entombed?
The band that is widely considered to be the primary pioneering band for the Swedish Death Metal sound?

They are very esteemed in the Death Metal scene from my experience.
Thanks for the vid. Gojira is amazing
Chaos ad is the boss of the game, definitely
Great Doco mate!! My favourite French artist is Gorod, fornominal tech death, very unique also
Came here to say the same, GOROD very underrated imo.
Amazing high quality video and very chill narrated. Subscribed!
So hyped for this! You've been killing it with the documentaries lately! Love the channel! 🤘🤘
I will definitly Start to Listen to this Band now, even if I had no Clue about it before. Amazing Doku as always 🤟🏼
Excellent documentary, as usual! Keep on the good work! Thank you very much.

The fart of crying
The shart of lying
No…..but actually maybe
The start of frying...
Heat oil
My heart is sighing
Can't wait to see them end of this year in Nice!!
Another good french Death Metal band was and Is Mercyless!
Thank you for sharing this information and story with us! You Rock! 🤘🏻✌🏼
Sick video man! Very well put together
Hello guys I'm ready for this banger!!!!!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Thank you for making true, content, from the heart
Gojira hit my radar with The way of all flesh when I saw them live at mayhem fest on second stage. Fantastic band
I LOVE The Link! It’s one of my favorite albums of theirs! Surprised to learn that a lot of fans and the band themselves don’t care for it that much.
Been waiting for this. 🤘🔥🥁🎸
Good stuff man!
Nice vid. Never really heard these guys but some of the tracks you dropped on this sound pretty good. Ima go check them out i reckon. Cheers 🍻
Awesome group with a truly original sound
GOJIRA is pretty good live...they are a good live band
They are the Best live band I’ve ever seen
Hell yeah. Great band, great video.
"The album itself is classed as death metal, experimental metal and groove metal, but honestly it's just epic as fuck". Could not have put it better myself!
Great video mate
I just realised that The Way of All Flesh singles are completely forgotten live while The Art of Dying or Toxic Garbage Island are played a lot.

Not a band i listen to but your docs are amazing 🤘
Happy New Year! Could you please cover Machine Head?
I've been a fan of GOJIRA since 2005. Killer musicians. Shoutout to GODZILLA, too.
Commenting to help with the algorithm but THIS MF DON'T MISS! Another banger my dude!
I feel The Art of Dying should be the title of a Death Angel documentary
I have been listening to Gojira since 06 or 07. I remember seeing the Flying Whales video on HBB and thinking I had changed the channel to IFC. Destinity is another great French Metal band I've been listening to since 2010.. but they're underground.
Gojira é Foda!
I f*cking love Gojira. Watched "Live at red rocks" tens of times
Gojira being the first metal band perform on the opening show of the Olympics. Look for Jambinai - Time of Extinction on the 2018 Olympics in South-Korea. The question is: Is Jambinai a metal band? If yes, then they would likely be the first. Really worth checking out.
Out of all the French artists and you forgot Daft Punk!? Tf?
Also there's Perturbator, Carpenter Brut, and Kavinsky.
I knew they were super environmental but i didnt know in the forest was a biographical tune!!??💪💪🤘🤘
I'd love to see your playlists etc. Doubt you're on Spotify though
Your voice is superb.
Best Basque metal band by far.
Great video as always! Is Mario still underrated though?
Hell yeah🤘🏻
I'm curious about the story of Bullet for my Valentine and how a song about breakups became a 2000s stable metal band
.
Might have come late to the party, but Fortitude changed that.
Please do a doc on primus I think that would be cool
3:43 Jean-Michel is not the original bassist! It was Alex Cornillon, who recorded bass for Victim and Possessed, and Jean-Michel joined in 1998, playing on Saturate and everything since.
I didn't say he was the original.
Sabaton Docmentary if you haven't done already would be great
For Valentine’s Day you should do an episode on My Bloody Valentine
Shift. Another French band worth checking out.
17:09 can someone tell me the name of the track on the background?
Your Lemme tattoo looks incredible!!! Who is the artist?
Can't wait me duder
Best band 🤘
Gojira predicted the Purrgil lmao
Can we have an episode on The Black Dahlia Murder?
Jilling it dude..heh..
Not mentioning Misanthrope; Antaeus or Mutiilation is a Sortilege per se.
If I mentioned every single band that people in the comments section said "not mentioning these bands" the video would literally be 5 hours of just me mentioning bands that everyone thinks should be mentioned
@RAWMUSICTV well, these three would be more relevant to the metal crowd than Johnny Halliday or Celine Dion, but yeah.
The entire point in mentioning them is they are not Metal or relevant to Metal. Hence the preface of "biggest artists to come out of France or French singing artists" and not "biggest Metal artists from France".
Fuck. Yes.
Can you do a documentary on opeth next please would love it
Funny that he recalls Alcest but totally forget's bands like anorexia nervosa & Peste Noire
Not really, Alcest are more well known. Hence why I mentioned them and not other groups.
Please do SAMHAIN 🩸🔥
Godzilla 🐲 is Gojira
Next: Lamb of god please
CHILDREN OF BODOM
Do opeth next
Cut ur damn hair broo😭😭😭😭🙏🙏🙏🙏love tha vids tho kinda

There are plenty of vegan metal musicians it's just not an interesting topic. I've been vegan for 19 years, I have zero interest in talking about it in the videos I make.
