  • Here’s a video of the latest upgrade to my video game set up. Definitely worth looking into if you’re looking for an alternative to SCART.

    I recently picked up the same switcher in the slightly smaller 8x8 w/audio. Swapped it in to replace an old Phillips component switcher where the outputs were daisy chained via my PVM and split out to another CRT. The Extron is so much better, and no signal noise introduced by either the old auto switcher, or cheap passive switchers is great.
    I've not tried any of my systems with SCART as I started putting together my current setup after HD Retrovision cables became available. Being able to easily switch any of my systems to my PVM, consumer Trinitron, or OSSC as needed is fantastic!

      Yeah it's quite amazing, myself I still use a generic "3-position SCART transfer switch" (really just a plain dumb metal box with a rotary knob to switch inputs, all it says on the front is "DATA TRANSFER SWITCH" nothing more... I got this for 2€ at a garage sale ages ago, the seller didn't know what it was for) so far I have not yet noticed noise or crosstalk (we'll see once I receive my 9" PVM probably a 9045qm or a 9042qm), personally I'll limit myself to two CRTs, so I don't need a big Crosspoint..

      It's the most essential addition to my set up. Extron builds to really good quality items. I have not had any issues at all since setting this up.

    Found an 8x4 Crosspoint at Goodwill a year and a half ago. $30. Since then I have spend hundreds tooling up to make custom console cables for the thing... got 1,000 feet of their MHR cable and 350 BNC ends. Ordered the crimp tool but the seller didn’t come through so now I’m sitting on all this! Oh well. In the mean time I have been repurposing 10PINCOMPON cables from DirecTV boxes to make component cables for UltraHDMI HW2+DAC and N64Digital. Also for PS2/3, original XBOX, Wii, etc. I have well over 100 of these! GO BIG OR GO HOME! ...while ignoring the diminutive size of my 8x4 Extron Crosspoint switch. ;)

    • @Ex_Savior
      @Ex_Savior  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's quite a project! Hopefully you get all the cabling done soon. Your set up can definitely benefit from a Crosspoint switcher!

      @@Ex_Savior LOL! Definitely plan to buy one like yours eventually. ;) I did get the crimp tool and make a few test cables but I’ll have to get back to it later since I’m still recovering from a natural disaster (direct hit from an EF-4 tornado). Definitely getting inspired here. :)

    Very nice setup my man. Extron products are absolutely amazing in build quality, features and flexibility. My road to A/V switchers started with the humble unpowered 4 input switcher, got a step-up with my Extron MAV Plus, upped the ante with two Crosspoint Ultras then finally evolved into its final form with a single Crosspoint 300. I actually just bought the Crosspoint 16x8 300 series to replace my two daisy-chained 8x8 Crosspoint Ultras. The 16x8 is perfect for me since I don't see myself going beyond 14 or so analog consoles and I'll NEVER need more than 4 or 5 outputs. I could've kept the two Ultras the way they were, but I wanted the ease and convenience of an all-in-one unit plus one free power socket. I got to admit though, I'm going to miss those larger glowing buttons from the Ultra. I've also been using an 8x4 Extron DXP for HDMI, but I'm going to be replacing it soon for a 4k 60hz option.
    I completely agree with your feelings on RGB/SCART vs Component. The headaches of SCART just aren't worth it these days when Component is so much easier to deal with alongside a plethora of RGB to Component cables and converters. Personally, I use mostly Component with some S-Video sprinkled in from consoles I haven't RGB modded yet like my N64 and 3DO. Extron switchers are really easy to set up if you're dealing with RCA plugs and MAYBE S-Video with the right y-adapter... except of course the phoenix plugs lol. Luckily there's plenty of adapters out there to buy, but alas it is an investment and a necessary evil. However, once you get it all going and move on from the shock factor you gave your bank account, it's a real treat to use. Multiplayer nights with friends and family are a blast with multiple TV's and consoles hooked up to these mighty machines.

    Is it possible to use some consoles through RGB scart and other consoles through composite all connected to the Crosspoint?

    • @Ex_Savior
      @Ex_Savior  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, this is taken directly from the user’s manual:
      “CrossPoint - Both switcher models input and output ultra-wideband RGBHV or RGBS video. They can also switch RGsB, RsGsBs, component/HDTV, S-video, or composite video.”
      Something to be mindful about - even though these crosspoint switchers will take all these inputs, it will only match whatever input it recognizes. For example: if you plug in an S-Video input, it will not output via RGBHV. This does not convert signals from one type to the other.

    I have a 1616 (composite) that does audio and video.. but it seems like it's fighting me on allowing all of my inputs (game systems) to go out to a single output (tv).. any idea what i could be doing wrong?

    • @Ex_Savior
      @Ex_Savior  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m not sure I understand your question, but I don’t believe any Extron device will allow you to grab multiple audio input sources into a single audio output. You can take 1 audio input and split it going out however many ways you need it to go. Depending on what model you have, the device might have inputs locked in place. Have you tried resetting your device? There might be a reset switch in the back somewhere.

    What's the max resolution this can push? Can it do 1080p for rgbhv? The version of the manual I have doesn't really talk about resolutions.

    • @Ex_Savior
      @Ex_Savior  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Skimming through the user’s manual, I also did not see any sort of accepted resolutions. I would say it’s limits are based on the connection type. So for Y or Y/C it would be 240/480i. For RGBS/RGsB, it would be 240p up to 1080i. For RGBHV, realistically speaking it would be 480p to 1080p.
