Cammellya is a hedonist and battle maniac who's main job is to test the combat prowess of people who can join the Black Shores, a organization focused on preserving and saving the world from the Laments. She's obsessed with the Rover(the player) and when u first meet her in the story she leaves quite a impression. She's a plant type Resonator who's prone to Overclocking(her red form) wich is something that can happen to Resonators and can be deadly or even change their personality. The characters she fights in this trailer are just random NPC's but they looks so good it gives credit to Kuro Games for making them look inportant and distinct.
Absolutely love your way of reacting to stuff. Just letting it run through in one thing while already analyzing but not stopping the flow and then doing the detailed analysis AFTER. Very enjoyable to watch 👌
The theme I'm seeing here is; "Death looking for a reason to live.", I could be mistaken but the flower blooming from her body appears to be the Red Spider Lily, also known as the "corpse flower" while red is naturally a color we associate with themes of love, pain, and passion! So maybe like a disillusioned psychopomp archetype looking for that spark just to feel alive again?
That is not spider Lily. What she's doing here is actually screening the potential member for her organization (Blackshores). She's a battle maniac and she would keep someone who is potentially strong just to fight them later.
I think it's a Camellya flower, hence her name. But they do have an antagonist with a red spider lily (higanbana.) You're on point on the latter part. She's nihilistic, hedonist, I'd even say sociopathic/psychopathic and her only obsession is power which the Rover happens to have.
It's funny you ask about her and who the other person is because Camellya is actually a good guy. She is a member of the good organization, The Black Shores, with Shorekeeper and is in charge of finding and testing some new recruits. She's just prone to overclocking and as a result has become kinda crazy. The Seed of Fate is the Rover/MC which is why they're both male and female interchangeably in the shots.
@lesath7883 Yeah, that's fair. I meant "good guy" as in she fights on the side of good and isn't evil like Scar, Phrolova and the Fracsidus, since Philip was wondering if she was a villain. Kinda like a non-villain version of Tartaglia from Genshin I guess.
I think you missed one of the best(?) trailers for Wuthering Waves. Have you seen the one for Xiangli Yao yet? I can't seem to find the video, if you did. Thanks for making this video!
I'll try to be spoiler free as possible in the case you decide to play this game. funny enough, she isn't a villain. She is just unhinged. She is a recruiter for a faction called "The Black Shores" whose goal is to keep civilization alive for as long as possible by detecting and preventing calamities before they happen. Her duty is to hunt down talent for this faction and recruit them. She has really high standards. She seems to have a deeper connection to the main character aka Rover as she has been seeing them in her dreams even before meeting. Her personality is battle mania and possessiveness when it comes to the Rover. There are also romantic implications as well. Like how when they first meet is by a heart shaped pond. xD The male and female figure seen at the end is the main character aka Rover. They always make it a point to show both playable sexes in their trailers and if they talk, they overlap both male and female voices.
The ending of the trailer for Camellya as to why she is so calm is because she remembered who her "seed of fate is" as the person they show last is the MC of the game a Male/Female Rover. The history between the 2 is when they first originally met at the Black Shores, where Rover made her his bloom barer because of the potential he saw on her. She didnt have dark psychotic powers she has now when she first arrived, she was just a calm young girl whose city was destroyed by Tacit Discords or for short (TD), they destroyed her hometown, and she tried to defend her home and in doing so trying to defend her home lost everyone she loved and cared about which she just cracked and lost control of herself turning her powers into the crazy monster flower. Flash forward a couple of months she finds a place called black shores where she met Rover who is the master keeper of the Black Shores beach. When she met Rover she felt a sense of calmness like she found her greatest rival/lover.
Basically she uses her power to the point where it damages her body. When she overdoes it she goes a bit crazy. Companion story spoilers: She knew the main character before we removed our memories, and we served as a sort of anchor for her mentally, keeping her stable. So when the MC disappears, she loses her anchor and ends up realizing that without the MC her body is giving up to the point where she may die before MC returns. So she seals her memories, to forget about the MC that she's missing and acts based on instinct. She still sees the MC in her dreams though she can't form a clear image until she meets us, her "seed of fate". Through her companion story she connects some dots, but chooses to abandon her old memories, so she doesn't become unstable again. Or something along those lines anyway. This is very paraphrased and I might've misremembered some stuff.
the opponents in this cinematic are all basic npcs, even the high quality ones are just random enemies. Kuro just pours love into everything in this game. The last one she sees is the Main Character of the game, Rover. Her story is deeply interconnected with his/hers. SPOILERS FROM HERE ON: Camellya lives by instinct, and her instincts always bring her back to Rover, in every timeline. In this timeline, Camellya is on the edge of losing her sanity (overclocking), and by looking for a challenge (to recruit people for the Black Shores faction) she meets Rover, who she becomes obsessed by. In another timeline, she Overclocked, losing her form, and that time was Rover who came to visit her, and they fell in love, an impossible love because of her condition. In another timeline, she was sane, and never done the things that led to her "almost Overclocking". She was drawn to the Black Shores after saving a village with her powers, to employ them again for good, and the leader of the Black Shores happens to be Rover. Then, many other timelines are teased, one when she was just a traveller crossing paths with Rover by pure chance etc... Her story is actually great.
Lovely react as always! Detail and on point.🙂 Her story quest and background explains the way why she is. It's relatively dark, twisted and sad. Therefore, I'm happy to announce that Wuthering Waves is coming to PS5 on 2nd January. I know you prefer PS5 that's why thought you'd be interested in hearing this. 😀
This showcase is overall really great, there are some small animation flaws or design decisions that are odd. - A few facial animations are uncanny, or lack proper lighting - A lack of character expression in the shoulders and hands. - Character lack linework in some areas like their hair (bangs) These issue in mind, what carries this trailer though, is as you Phillip have rightfully addressed. Cinematography. It is SOO good. I can excuse many of the smaller mistakes that likely are a result of time constraints because the trailer is filmed so well with a clear intention.
Good video. I love the quality of their trailers. The fight scenes and music are insanely good. Reminds me of Honkai Impact 3rd, though the low fps always bothered me there. Honestly, Kuro could just make impressive anime movies like that instead of games. There are also story videos for the chars btw ^^ Not sure if anyone answered the question. All characters apart from Camellya are just random npc.
They separated the gameplay from the story, splitting it into two trailers, unlike other Resonater Showcases. Sadly this means that when it transitions from story to gameplay, we don't get an awesome 3D to 2D transition art. Camellya mentions to the first person she fights that she's testing them to see if they deserve a spot at Black Shores. Camellya is a "recruiter" of some capacity for the organization. Her methods are entirely unhinged but the people she DOES manage to bring in are the cream of the crop. Black Shores monitors the Lament, which is the umbrella term for disastrous phenomena that can occur in different regions (such as Tacet Discord/monster outbreaks and Retroact rain; rain that falls upward and produces illusions of past events in the region it's affecting) so it does require very capable and motivated people. She's not necessarily a villain, but she's not very heroic either. She doesn't care about the entire mission of Black Shores, she only cares about fighting. A battle-junkie. She states that she's driven by instinct and desire. Her connection to the main character, Rover, is a fun one. She's very sultry, her dialogue is filled with innuendo, but I don't think she cares about sexual attraction and romance. She desires nothing more than to be locked in eternal combat with Rover, who she considers her one and only "soulmate" in battle. She has an obsession, really. Her opponent that gave her the most trouble is not a named character, they're an enemy NPC. They're called "Exile Technicians" and are "elite" enemies. They usually wield the Spectro (Light) element while Camellya's element is Havoc (Dark). I don't believe she "kills" most of the people she tries to recruit, probably hospitalizes them. But any time she defeats someone in the trailer, a flower blooms. At the end of the trailer, we see a field of those flowers, and our character, Rover, standing in it. The one flower that hasn't bloomed in her garden. There's a lot more to their history together, but I don't want to spoil too much. Someone else might lay it out in the comments for you though.
Basically, she’s one of the good guys but is a bit unhinged in the sense that she enjoys battle ( against or with strong people ) a bit too much and is uncaring of past or future. Deep down though, she’s a good person but doesn’t like to show it, always finding excuses for her reasons to help. The protagonist ( the characters seen at the very end, either male or female ) is the only one who can fight ( and defeat ) her and that’s *part* of the reason she’s interested in him/her.
I really enjoy your Wuthering Waves series videos. Recently, the character Yinlin had a rerun. If you have the time, could you kindly check out her character PV ‘SURRENDER OR DIE’? It should be available on the Wuwa official channel from June.
I absolutely adore these videos of people reacting to Wuthering Waves in accordance with their occupation. I love seeing the breakdowns and I hope to see more
It seems more like a "you" problem. Moreso if we consider that this is a common anime trope. I'm a guy, and I never saw the vines as some BDSM fetish since her forte involves vines. My first impression even prior to her release is an aerial silk dancer which is mirrored by her animations from hanging to the elegant flexible repositioning after attacking. They also have someone dinilar from their other game btw. As for over-sexualization, I agree but only when viewed on face value. But is she though? She literally got the flattest chest I've ever seen in a gacha, not that it matters. I do agree that her outfit and honestly many of the females are a bit exposed. But ask why. She's apparently inspired by aerial dance so a skin-tight outfit is appropriate. The dress as well as it refers to the ballet influence. As for the sexual inuendos, I do agree but then again she's literally a plant breeder hence she keeps on saying seed and use gardening/plant-related metaphors. I honestly felt uncomfortable during her quest and some of her ads but exactly because of the double meaning we put which Kuro 100% knows. I wonder if the CN and JP version also have the dame inuendos or is it just for english-speakers. But to me, it's effective in a writing perspective because that's what she is, a psychopathic hedonist and power-obsessed lady. She's almost like made by the devs not to be loved but to be worried about. As for the rest of the women roster being a sex object, I think you're using Camellya's manners as a red herring. Changli is literally the brains of the defense of Jinzhou. A mastermind. Jinhsi despite her age is the leader of a city. She confronted Jue ALONE, with the rover literally just there to comand the temporal mandate. Zhezhi stood for herself during the court hearing even though the rover is there to help. Shorekeeper literally sacrificed herself for the rover which makes sense as she's practically a physical AI made to realize Rover's mission. With that said, they do need to reduce the MC glazing which to be fair are usually just from the latter parts of some companion quests, and add more male characters. Not denying that there's oversexualization in gaming, especially in gacha, I mean have you seen Nikke and Snowbreak? But I think WuWa is not even close to that primarily because they don't randomly put any hint of "sexiness" without tying such in a justified way like a "yandere" trope character in anime.
As a Genshin player. I couldn't help but notice the last competitor in this trailer is a petite golden eyed golden haired young girl of great strength that fights with a sword. I cant imagine that Kuro didnt do that on purpose.
You are comparing to the Traveler I assume? Good to know Kuro's normal NPCs that are everywhere in the world look so good it reminds you of Genshin's MC lol
Being honest, the thing i dont like is her animations being too sexual, hanging with her hands tied and her two legs tied(but those are not being tied together...) and her basic attack is also not-so-coincidentally is called 'breeding'. It is disgusting, she's designed to be a sex object(bondage in BDSM) with her being tied the way she's hanging, just to name one of her animations as an example. Also why is her chest having its own idle animation??? I get that her animations are very intriguing and colorful and different. But there is something so off about how every character is highly sexualized, or, if they're not, then they are portrayed as this weak and fragile women(shorekeeper recently), and somehow all female characters have a crush on rover in every story/or becomes a love story with rover. As a woman, it is disappointing and sickening in how every female character is based off of the typical male gaze, and it becoming a triggering. I played the game for almost 6 months, done the character/companion story quests, but deleted eventually.
What about Jinhsi and Changli? Both are strong, capable female leaders with some beautifully empowering arcs. I’ll grant you changli is highly sexualized but jihnsi certainly is not. Also neither are really in love with rover they just find them intriguing. Jinhsi is also not at all what I would call demure and helpless she does her own quest basically by herself with the rover just acting as moral support. There’s also Zhezhi who while shy and awkward is not at all helpless and has several moments where she actually stands up for herself without being sexualized. As for others we haven’t gotten stories of yet Chixia and Jianxin are less sexualized than like half of the genshin female roster and both see the rover as just a friend. They are also badasses. Sex sells and all that but I feel wuwa is no worse than half the gacha games out there with female characters.
it sounds like you’re one of those folks who think that way. the vines and her poses after striking certain moves definitely draw inspiration from gymnastics and aerial arts. it's not really about BDSM. these character designs are meant to catch the eye and stand out, especially in a gacha game. I get where you’re coming from since you mentioned you’re a woman, so that's valid. also, I don’t think you fully grasp why some characters behave the way they do towards M/F Rover. someone else already touched on that topic so I just wanted to add my two cents about the whole vine situation and design.
Let's be real, the majority of players are male. Just like completely naked females in OF, mostly or all their customers are male. It's all marketing to get male players money. "Typical male gaze" is a chance to rob their wallets, you quitting this game is not gonna change anything as long as their customers are happy, no minority female players opinion matters.

She's basically rover's past life waifu...ya
To put it simply she works under shorekeeper

Kinda sad they didn't have the transition from 3d to 2d they always do on character showcase but the entire video was really amazing

Please do watch to Honkai Star Rail's - Soloist (Sunday trailer)
Antihero
camellya is not a villain more of an anti-hero/ victim…you should react to the 1.4 trailer so you would understand more.
Sadly the english VA is lackluster, its a common thing in the game. I swapped to Japanese in my first 15 minutes with the game
Could review the Honkai Impact 3rd x Honkai: Star Rail Crossover Concept Trailer - Confrontation?
As a Genshin player. I couldn't help but notice the last competitor in this trailer is a petite golden eyed golden haired young girl of great strength that fights with a sword. I cant imagine that Kuro didnt do that on purpose.
Nah that blondie is just one of the npcs in-game
She one of the Exile elites enemy NPC
Thank you now we can play the game more peacefully
