Chris without machines lol ,bet he gets a cake with diggers and bulldozer toys on it 😃

The table in the room usually adjacent to the kitchen is commonly used for "DINING" (eating).
NOT for "DINNING" (learning by constant repetition).

Happy birthday Chris. I’ve only had 4 different jobs in my lifetime. Out of those farming and operating a bulldozer were my favorites. I had 2 public jobs and enjoyed what I did but I didn’t really like dealing with people that much. I enjoyed driving big tractors doing field work and clearing forested lots for a local paper mill with my bulldozer and cutting blade when I worked for my grandpa.

Pre ‘Rona, I traveled for work about 85% of the time. I flew over 100,000 a year for 24 years. Over the years it became less and less enjoyable as the airlines and everyone else raced to the bottom of service in an effort to extract that last penny of profit. Now that I’ve spent almost three years at home working remotely, and doing only a few trips, I’m not sure I’d be willing to go back to it even if the health concerns all went away. It’s just not enjoyable anymore. Even as a very, very frequent flyer with millions of miles status and lifetime recognition levels, the airlines don’t seem to care, or don’t really have the ability to care. I can see the frustration in the eyes of the older employees who are battling a system that limits their ability to serve and help. Throw in the youngsters who seem to just not give a flying f*&k, and I’ll just stay at home. Not how I planned or wanted to go out though. I really feel for the kids of today. They are going to have a real hard next decade. At least. Which is sad, there’s so much potential.

Hau'oli la hanau Chris. Great way to spend your birthday. You had me thinking of an Old Timer Machine Operator that I enjoyed talking with. I asked him, "whats the most dangerous job while operating machinery?" He replied, "clearing land with a dozer." He told me of the day his partner left him nearing the end of the day. He decided to make a couple more passes before coming in. On that pass he climbed an old, dead, tree stump that was covered in grass. He nearly lost the dozer on its side and decided from that moment, to stop when his partner leaves for the day. Those tree trunks coming up the side and over the blade enlightened me. Stay Safe. The excavator cleans it a lot nicer. Especially with an operator like you. Hau'oli la hanau, (Happy Birthday).

Your approach is very different than what we did when we were clearing land as homesteaders. We would have had much more protection ( a cage) around the Cat to keep sticks and trees from hitting us or the ‘workings’ of the machine. We used belly pans” to keep the trees out from below and “walked down” the trees on our initial pass and did not try to deals with any dirt in that pass, we then came back and piled trees, roots and formed windows up to1/2 mile long for burning. We cleared about a half section each summer for the first 3-4 years. After burning we would use 2 ,or later 3 or 4 bottom, breaking plows ( each bottom cut 24 inches). We then root raked with 6 wheel rakes (24 feet wide) d then doubled those windows from each side to make 72 foot wide windows for repiling n burning.

Thanks for the update on Betty I was one of the people asking about her. I've been watching steady since I saw you I believe at a golf course walking path removing landscape timbers and pulling the spikes out with the mini excavator bucket and thumb that impressed me ,"what an operator"👍👍

5300hrs??😮 I’ve seen machines with 53hrs looking in worse shape. With the sort of work she does in tight awkward spaces it’s a credit to you and how careful you are with her.
Out of interest how many hrs did she have when you got her?

Happy birthday Chris! Were you able to finish Geoff’s pond in the time you had planned or did it take longer than expected?
