Every single time i get a little time to get back into ff xiv i immediately go to the central shroud and just bawl my eyes out for a good 15-30 minutes So many memories of this game. I wish i could experience it all over. But responsibilities have been stacking up as i grew up myself. I wonder how some of my old FC members are doing. Every single one of the people i knew back then meant the world to me. The fact this piece gets me to cry even though I’ve struggled showing emotions my whole life is really something.
Heh… I’m still a sprout today, haven’t gotten in a fc yet (should get on that), but that first moment as a novice lancer stepping into the shroud……. It was my first lesson on why this world was special. I’m a die hard FF player (fav was FFT) but some how FFXIV escaped me, im still clawing through stormblood but tho a solo player it’s hard to feel alone. Gridania still is my main hub to this day and the shroud still my favorite place.
Gridania has a warm and cozy vibe that the other cities are too bustley to capture. All the stained glass and lanterns feel so warm and the trees are so serene, the city is alive with color and I love it so.
I'm in my 30s, have lived a hell of a life so far, but one of the best experiences in my life was seeing this played live at Eorzean Symphony. I literally sobbed the whole time from the sheer beauty of it. It's very hard to even listen now without being transported to that moment, and I absolutely love that a video game field theme could do this to me. Thank you Soken.
Agreed, 3/4 years ago or whenever when I made my character, thought Lancer would be a cool class, never thought I'd still be playing this long after with a house in The Lavender Beds and the feels for the music of the shroud, this is just flat out beautiful.
I did start as a lancer too, but I don't think starting here is what makes it feel homey, the city itself is very modest and the bar just feels like a comfortable cabin in the woods, I think the design was exactly going for that homey feeling.
Studio Yami I originally started out in Ul’dah and got, quite frankly, lost. When I returned to the game as a Conjurer, I just felt like I had found my place. There wasn’t a huge city with enormous imposing walls, there was Gridania, with open spaces and rivers flowing. It felt like a breath of fresh air and it still does.
@1:54 THIS SONG! I remember trying the beta and I was just running around exploring as much as I could and then this tune came on! I fell in love instantly! I really need an extended version!
i came to this area for the first time tonight and it happened to be storming in game. the music plus the sound of the rain and thunder just put me into such a somber, comfortable mood that i just couldn't help getting really emotional. such a beautiful track.
I only started FFXIV recently (not even lvl 10 yet), but I fell in love with this theme immediately. Reading everyone's comments about feeling nostalgic makes me feel like I have a long road ahead of me in this game! Haha. I can't wait to play this game even more and eventually have memories of my own to reminisce about
Same, I've been playing for exactly a month. Still a sprout at lvl 74 lol. Super hyped to play this game for years to come and very excited for Endwalker.
I remember way back when starting FFXIV with some friends, we all started in different cities. When I finally unlocked airships and flew to Gridania for the first time, this music playing and the completely new locale, city, and atmosphere as well as finally forming the party was amazing.
Takes me back to my sprouts days. I remember exploring the world while I barely touched MSQ. One night, I stumbled into the Black Shroud and was just encapsulated by the music
This song makes me feel so nostalgic. It feels like it's been a long time since my days of being a lancer without a mount just walking around the Black Shroud. And I'm still on Heavensward and I started playing this year.
In January 2016, I would wake up early before work, dawn light outside making the icy world glow with vibrant colors, and I'd sit and drink hot coffee and play this game and hear this song. To this day, I have sworn to return and do FFXIV justice (I only played for a little bit), BECAUSE OF THIS SONG. Because the nostalgia it forged in my heart is that strong
I love the black shroud so much, takes me back to when I was a sprout, discovering this brave new world, looking to see what mysteries and friendships it would hold as I made my adventure.
This was my favorite part about the White Mage class quests. Whenever I had to go speak with Raya-O-Senna, it was always so nice to hear this part! It's beautiful..
I have been playing since 1.0 and only discovered this part like last month since I decided to level crafters and needed to gather a lot of mats in south shroud. When that part came out, I actually thought I had another song playing in the background because I didn't remembered it and it is so good!
+Mourière Joren I was adventuring through the North Shroud when I heard this theme. It's my favourite soundtrack along with the Ul'dah night theme, which is here /watch?v=W6imm8t4B0o
Remember entering this area eventually and this came on, I distinctly remembering just sitting on my bed, putting my laptop down and just listening to this again and again. The way it loops that same part at the end grander and grander each time is just so... Nice.
Gridania is my home. Everytime I go there, the music seems to be the perfect frame for me and my lover, another player I'm gonna marry in real life next year. I feel so blessed..
3 times. That’s how many attempts it took. Took me being a conjuror just to heal my friends for this game to stick with me. I did initially start off as an archer then a warrior but my Conjuror is about to hit 90. Thank you for being my home in this game Gridania. Thank you for your beauty.
For those who are looking for the song at 1:54 extended, here is the link : th-cam.com/video/7yCGVNJhAH8/w-d-xo.html It has a nice Amano drawing with it :)
When I got that initial quest to find the three idling recruits, my first thought had literally been "No wonder, I could stand around and listen to this all day, too..." So amazing.
My heart still yearns for this game years later but I don’t have the time like I used to for it, but man I sunk so many hours in. I’ll always speak highly of this game, so many good memories.
I feel you. Played since release (and before that, FFXI) but last few years I don't have the time that I used to have, so I had to stop playing. Listening to this music hurts. :(
Just started playing this game a few days ago. I've started as a conjurer, and holy ravioli.. the music is amazing. I like running around randomly in the shroud through the flowers and listening to this haha
I had been in a car wreck recently before I first played this. To each their own, but this music hopped up on painkillers was simply magical....and I've played games for 35 years....
This is right up there with the halo series, making me reminisce the good and bad. 21 years old and what I would pay to go back to relive those moments
Same for me with "To the Sun" Back then when i started my Pugilist.. that feeling when i stepped out of Ul'dah for the first time.. is undescribeble.. i miss these days a lot. Games always start getting a little dull, once you hit endgame ;-; Really looking forward to Stormblood now.
1 does not simply, Loging in and then AFK ofc we only need the music lol . . in about a half year, all u gonna see is monk everywhere xD and dancer/samurai/red mage D: cant wait to see .
When the first note played, i was almost in tears at the nostalgia. It feels like just yesterday I bought the game, got the keyboard and mouse and played for hours on end. Since I started this game as a Conjurer, Gridania is my second home.
Personally I think XIII was incredibly underrated. I understand it was linear, but so was X. Yeah you could only control 1 characters in battle but I enjoyed that.
Even after starting in other cities on alts, Gridania always feels so immersive and encapsulating to me. I really hope we get more story in this place so I can visit it more often.
Man I just started a while back and the OST is just amazing. This one specifically sounds a lot like the music from Ghibli films, which fit the area really well.
@@BusyWaiting what's also great is the diversity of the soundtrack, it's not like every one of them needs an orchestra. There are Rock, Funk, House, etc.
This mmo is something else. I didnt even play final fantasy 11 as long as I did 14. I have played for about a year minus a month or two getting to that level 50 hump. I know i am still new compared to other people but im able to make roughly 200-287k gil each day with my level 70 crafter/gatherer classes. I dont need to worry about gear as this game literally throws it my way & i can just use the market board to buy crafting mats. I buy stuff like skins for leather because it supports both the growth of the ff14 economy & supplies me with stuff i use to begin crafting gear. All you need to know about buying from players on the market board gives a real person ingame funds, for whatever it is they want to buy.
2 of the MMO's i played the most have a very similar first zone Experience. i Started as Archer, so here. and it really reminded me of Poeta from Aion from back in the day, one of my favorite Starting zones felt right at home
I rolled Conjurer as my first job and honestly...no matter how many other characters I make, there's just nothing like starting in Gridania. This music is magical.
Man Gridania is really the only actually nice normal zone xD. Uldah is like 100 hyper rich people and horrible poor folk, Limsa Lominsa is chock full of pirates and degeneracy. Gridania truly the spot to be.
Haven't played this game in a few year I played the hell outta this game during the beta and all the way up to about 2016, I remember staying up to 4am in the morning playing this. Now that I have more free time I think I might get back into this.
That music reminds me of that whole Conjurer / White mage leveling I did while doing the MSQ or ARR. But also it just ties up to a white mage to me. Makes me think about Kan-E-Senna as well.
I just started last year and really got addicted to this game. The music was the first reaon that made me love this game and this was the first music I fell in love with. Too bad I don't get visit it too much. Mostly focus now on limsa because of leveling and buying things. Wish the MSQ would gave me a good reason to go back here again.
Is there any way someone could identify and/or link me to the harp bit that's playing at 1:55 ? I've been trying to find it for about two hours but I can't get anything. I wanna find it and put it on repeat eternally. O ^ O;
This section seems to be the one people like most, lol. Its my favorite, for sure. I remember seeing it on SoundCloud under the name "Gridania Field 3 theme" but that was a while ago, and I haven't seen it since. They tend to get taken down, or removed. :(
I joined the Maelstrom and spend most of my time in Limsa. But having Bard, Dragoon, and White Mage as my first jobs at 70 into Stormblood, I'll always feel like the Shroud is my home.
Leitmotifs: 0:05 Serenity part 1 0:44 Serenity part 2 1:54 Greenwrath: OK this is a little bit of a stretch but it has the same descending part and the triplets of notes going duh dah dah. You can hear it better if you start with those.
This song has a part that reminds me of the first Harry Potter game ost, then a part that reminds me of the Minecraft ost, and then a part that reminds me of the World of Warcraft ost and I love it.
This music always makes me nostalgic for my days as a newbie archer exploring the Central Shroud.
Same here.. and i really missed playing it
haha same, I think I started falling in love with the game when I found myself humming this theme
Every single time i get a little time to get back into ff xiv i immediately go to the central shroud and just bawl my eyes out for a good 15-30 minutes
So many memories of this game. I wish i could experience it all over. But responsibilities have been stacking up as i grew up myself.

Back when i was jus an awkward sprout with a spear :’). now multiple jobs at 90, raids cleared, with FC friends, what a journey.
Gridania has a warm and cozy vibe that the other cities are too bustley to capture. All the stained glass and lanterns feel so warm and the trees are so serene, the city is alive with color and I love it so.

Same here. I was there in Dortmund in 2018. Such a wonderful experience. :-)
My reasons for continuing to play FFXIV :
1. Final Fantasy.
2. This song.
Literally bought the game for this sing specifically
3. My crippling addiction
3. the game? lol
1:54 Shockedness by the love and beauty of this theme.
1:53 while it rains. My favourite moment of the game.
It might be that I'm biased...since i chose Lancer as my first class. but gridania has always felt more "homey" to me.
Same here but archer, as cheesy as it sounds the place is like a second home to me.

God this part gives me crazy nostalgia, so glad I got into this game.
That 6/4 time sig yo 😎
Music's great, but when it's raining in-game as well...I just feel so peaceful.
Roommates knows nothing about FF but I remember her walking into my room when this was playing just to say "This.. is really beautiful."
i've only been playing this game for a month and this song is already nostalgic.

Im a conjurer starter and I really think Gridania is the best out of the 3 city-states
Same here. I started as lancer
I' m a "gridanian" and let me tell you, that Limsa is awesom too.. It was a tought choice
As an archer starter, im on the same boat as you
For me Limsa Lominsa is the dearest, but Gridania is also amazing 😊❤
I main white mage but I prefer Ul'dah as a starting storyline, it fits more with the story of ARR in my opinion
When I got that initial quest to find the three idling recruits, my first thought had literally been "No wonder, I could stand around and listen to this all day, too..."

2:32 this give me Aion feel for some reason and I love it
i can tell you this song is even more magical when you hear it live. i did so when the concert came to gernany. never forget that evening^^
@1:54 the best song in all of FFxiv, i think also one of the most beautiful! always go there to AFK

Never gonna forget this after POTD runs, indescribeable nostalgia.
I tend to really miss Gridania when I have to venture to the other areas to do quests. Gridania has really somehow dug a place into my heart🥺🥺

I couldn't agree more. All the aspects of the game which were "awful" weren't even that bad.
Yup, they're just stuck in the past and want every future Final Fantasy game to be like VII.
I mean, mistakes are bound to be made, but I'd rather see free-thought games, than something crammed into a mold.
All this conversation just makes me remember that I'm not the only one who has the same opinion. You guys are my new friends now! :')
"Oh those scorpions across the river look terrifying"

1:54 Greenwrath: OK this is a little bit of a stretch but it has the same descending part and the triplets of notes going duh dah dah. You can hear it better if you start with those.
I love this song sm reminds me of the good old days (my mum plays this and I really love it) :)
This song does to me in ARR what Twilight Over Thanalan did for me in 1.0.
This song has a part that reminds me of the first Harry Potter game ost, then a part that reminds me of the Minecraft ost, and then a part that reminds me of the World of Warcraft ost and I love it.
