  • This video is a summary of a selection of bunkai covered on a seminar focused on Naihanchi taught along side Dave Shaw Sensei. We covered a variety of bunkai at different ranges and comparing stylistic variations (Wado, Shotokan's Tekki and Yuishin Kai) between the Naihanchi katas and did applications that reflect these variants primarily of Naihanchi Shodan but we also covered some applications from Koshiki Naihanchi.
A huge thank you to Dave Shaw and Sheffield Karate club for organising the seminar and to Dill Young for filming this summary as my camera failed me with video but no sound (facepalm).

Finally, when people ask me what Karate actually looks like as a martial art, I have something I can point them too. Nice channel and great video.

    Really interesting technics, as always.
Special thoughts for your uke on the vidéo because some throws were really effectives on the ground.

Nice job. I love this kata. In the old days this kata was an advance kata. Yes this is Karate-Jutu not Karate-Do. Again nice work.

quite interesting, since it also involves techniques from Judo and Aikido.

Principles are universal and there is good cross over between disciplines at high levels.

To reach the top of the mountain may have many roads or ways. Some take the karate Do, some AikiDO, some JuDO. DO IS THE WAY TO THE TOP. AT THE TOP EVERYTHING MERGE TOGETHER.

Flicking through karate videos on TH-cam and this one popped up. A blast from the past. It was a pleasure to run this seminar along with @Daniel Pyatt who has a vast amount of technical knowledge. We will be running another seminar together later this year 🙏
