While 16GB is very useful, especially as the card ages, the use of a 128 bit memory bus, is a huge issue. Keep in mind that even the ancient GTX 970 would do around 256GB/s for many non-reference models, and with some overclocking, would do around 275-280GB/s, and the card benefited greatly from such a overclock. The RX 7600 XT does around 288GB/s. If a card that offers around 1/3rd the performance experiences VRAM throughput bottlenecks, imagine what it is doing to the RX 7600 XT.
While more VRAM helps a card to age better. For example, cards with 8GB of RAM lasted far longer than ones with 4GB, even in cases when the 8GB card has a slightly slower GPU. When a card offers more VRAM at ample throughput, then you get to crank up VRAM capacity and VRAM bandwidth intensive settings with virtually no frame rate drop. For example, if your card has enough VRAM, running at a fast enough speed, you can crank up textures with negligible impact of frame rates, thus getting a better looking game. On the other hand, if a game needs a lot of VRAM, at a very high throughput, then, having extra VRAM is not as effective since the throughput bottleneck will cause a large performance drop.

    • @Frozoken
      @Frozoken 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

True altho a small nitpick is that the 970 is really on an effective 224 bit bus because of the 3.5gb vram meaning you were really getting 224GB/s. The mem bus width being split up is the entire reasons you couldn't really use the last 0.5gb of vram on the card.

I mean considering only 100mhz was added to the boost clock and nothing else is different other than the 8gb vs 16gb and max power usage, this performs a lot better compared to the vanilla 7600 than i thought it would.
It's not a crazy bad product and as with 99% of Amd Gpu's launched in the past couple of years the price will drop within 6months - which if it gets to around $300 USD it will be looking like a much better product. Performance isn't trash either (apart from RT) , the raster is solid - not amazing.
I had a Rx 6600 and it had no performance issues in the games i played and i didn't feel like i was barely scraping by to play games at only min settings - the 7600 is a chunk faster than the Rx 6600 (and the xt a chunk higher again) so it will perform well enough as long as you keep your expectations in check.

Yes it is a bad product, don't even try to cope it's not. Putting 16 GB of VRAM on a crippled 128-bit bus because apparently "more VRAM = good GPU" won't actually make it a good GPU. Also the RX 6700 XT is at the same price as this GPU and the 6700 XT is actually faster. There are literally no scenarios where the 7600 XT would need 16 GB unless you do AI or whatever.

I'm considering a 4060Ti 8Gb or possibly the RX7600XT since the price is similar. Am I barking up the wrong tree with this plan or is there a better way, or am i being unreasonable to think that the R5 2600 plus the updated card can deliver that sort of performance, would an upgraded cpu also e in order? AMD is trying to give consumer GPUs at a decent price point. If playing maybe one or two of the latest titles you will be satisfied with a GPU that you can buy at a decent price point. Now with the RX 7600XT numbers up on a GPU that only has x8 lanes this GPU performed pretty well in some game titles. If I was in the market on buying the RX 7600XT 16GB in playing Retro and RGP titles I be very proud with this GPU on my 1080p 60hz TV monitors.

As bad as it is with USD it’s still better than many other currencies. My currency has dropped 40% in value compared to the USD in the last years so even at the same USD price graphics cards are 40% more expensive because they are imported goods and thus heavily dependent on the currency value. You could get a GTX 580 back in 2011 for 4000 and now 4000 gets you a 4060. I used to always spend around 2000 which was about 250 bucks and get good cards. Now 2000 is more like 150 bucks and you can’t get anything for that except the crappy 6500XT.

I remember the luke warm reception the RX 6600 had when released, but then later became one of the best value for money cards you could buy. I think we may see the same with the RX 7600 XT, when it's price inevitably drops to $300 or below, and games get that much more demanding in VRAM situations going forward. Could be one to review again in a years time.

I only just recently broke the 8GB mark in 1440p gaming, ironically with the HD texture pack on FC6, a game that is more than 2 years old. Haven't played AW2 but of the new releases I did play last year, AC Mirage, Starfield and the total abortion of a game, Motorfest, all run comfortably with settings maxed at 1440p on an 8GB GPU.
From the benchmarks I've seen on AW2, you need more than 8GB to run it at 1080p. Now that they have broken that barrier, other devs will have no qualms about following suit.
AW2 is entirely playable on a 3060 12GB, even at 1440p. If we look at AW2 as the new Crysis and expect titles in the near future to have similar resource demands, a GPU of this class, with 12GB VRAM is the least you should be buying in 2024 on the new market, even for 1080p. The RTX 3060 is the new budget standard. Goodbye 1650, it was nice knowin' ya.
They could have gone with 12GB for this GPU and they actually would have had a viable competitor to the 4060 because if you are gaming at 1440p there will likely be upcoming releases you can't run on an 8GB GPU. Instead, they ended up at too high a price point because of the extra 4GB VRAM which you definitely won't ever be able to use. By the time you need 16GB, the 7600XT will be as useless as a 16GB RX580 is now.
You're probably not going to be running GTAVI at 1440p on an 8GB GPU and maybe not even 1080p, assuming they weren't lying through their teeth about the trailer being actual in engine rendering. The Indy game also looks like it is going to be VRAM hungry.
As for RT, it is kinda useless on a GPU of this class even if it is an Nvidia card. There are some games with limited RT that will work like FC6, FH5 and AC Mirage. But games like Cyberpunk and AW2 and basically any new release moving forward that supports RT, forget it.
I think your assertion that 8GB is still fine is the result of a conflict of interest between your YT channel and your PC flipping business.

This Card sets a new standard for the lowest tier. That's good. Never again we will see a new card under 16GB

Maybe nvidia will launch rtx 4060 super 16GB card at $399 and discontinue rtx 4060ti

I have a theory that this is an entry AI card, with AMD trying to enter the consumer AI market.

The RX7600XT cost as much as a 4060Ti here.... so I would not even consider the 7600 at all lol.

    1440p Gaming??? Damn...
I guess I will have to wait a few more years before I fork out
another whopping chunk of money to replace my aging
GTX 1080Ti to fully utilise my old 4K Monitors abilities, Yup my
old GTX 1080Ti "Games and Live streams" @4K, Granted no
Ray Tracing, but at least Live streaming performance was at an
acceptable 50~60 FPS @4K and yes... I have proof of that...
Yeah nah NOPE! I may as well also hold off on an 8K Monitor
which would provide a Super UHD HDR delight, especially if it
were complimented with Ray tracing. Alas with graphics cards
it seems it's just not worth the bang for buck yet, let alone are
still incapable of providing a better performance with this
Ray Tracing feature enabled, so really the investment in a new
card is just not going to be appealing enough, I wanna see at
least 4k @100fps gaming and Streaming performance with all
graphics settings to the max and with Ray Tracing enabled
before I take the plunge and upgrade my old GTX 1080Ti..
