- You think the Caltrain F40s and Gallery cars would have an easy boring, their final morning rush but its the Caltrain peninsula, someone is always prone to getting toppled by a train by accident or just to become one with the train...
On the morning of September 20th, 2024, the final day of diesel service between San Jose, CA and San Francisco, CA, Caltrain Limited train 401 struck a trespasser at the Mary Ave railroad crossing in Sunnyvale, CA around 6am in the morning. Resulting in a complete standstill of train traffic and rolling each train by the strike scene one at a time (single tracking).
After trains began moving, all around an hour late at most, trains started speeding by Menlo Park (Baby Bullets and Limited trains) all not being canceled. Some being Nippon Sharyos, F40s and MP36s, the others Stadler KISS EMUs. So sit back and enjoy the morning rush trying to recover from a pedestrian strike and get commuters to their destination: but also those cool P2 horns.

I love it âĪ
According to what Iâve heard the MP36âs will remain to power the commuter trains running from San Jose to Gilroy; thereâs talk about extending at least one train to Salinas, but thatâs just a rumor.
Any idea on where the retired f40âs will go? Will they be scrapped or preserved at museums?
It could be possible one or a few will be preserved at a museum. The California State Railroad Museum would be a great place to have one but I don't know if they have enough space.
@@railtechadventurer I see. Do they have other train museums thatâll accept them and be used for excursion trains?
@@Agent_tx_tiger Somebody did say that they might be useful for diesel runs on the Niles Canyon Railway, but I'm not sure what other museums could use one.
@@railtechadventurer I see. Will they use their hep power for those runs?
@@Agent_tx_tigercanât they are being disabled part of the deal for the new electricâs is they basicallyhave to destroy the dieselâs prime mover and HEP diesel generator
good bye diesel caltrain, good ridence.
Will the MP36s continue to operate or the 2 AEM-7s the Caltrain will carry the Cabcar trains?
Hi there do you mind telling me what cameras you used for photos and videos? You get really good quality and I'm curious
Wonder if MetroLink Can done the same thing as CalTrain.
No . They bought f125s and refurbished cars pshhh
Metrolink has historically been anti-electrification, and instead is focusing on improving rail service for the 2028 Olympics. The new timetable going into effect in October adds more off-peak trains, but they still have a long way to go.
â@@JPBX904Any reason why Metrolink is against railroad electrification? Is it because some of their trackage is shared by freight?
@@kevinb8881 Most likely yes, the LA to Fullerton section especially is on one of BNSF's busiest corridors.
@@JPBX904 Oh ok, got it!!
These f40s should've retired years ago
