    Beth, thank you for letting me know I'm not the only person who knits English style and actually lets go of the right needle! I took a class once and the instructor called me out on it! It has caused me to stay away from knitting get-togethers because I was so self-conscious LOL I even considered forcing myself to learn continental to "blend in" with others. However, I love to knit, and this episode has convinced me that if I love what I do, and my method produces a nice finished product, I'll just stick with what I'm comfortable with.😁

    Just found your wonderful podcast and have been enjoying time with you, your designs, plus travels so much. And, yes - nasturtiums were a favorite of Isabella Stewart Gardner who created a museum in her home in Boston. Every April, on her birthday, long trailing nasturtiums are hung in the atrium of her
    museum from the higher floors, hanging to nearly two stories. Just visited last week...a magical space!

    • @bethmacdonaldstone
      @bethmacdonaldstone  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you so much! I had no idea that the nasturtium installation was tied to her Birthday. That makes it even more special! It's my favorite museum and I admire her drive to make and live in such a wonderful spot. I haven't seen the new addition yet and am hoping to this summer when next in Boston. Thanks for that tidbit! So interesting!!!

    • @cynthianuzzo3047
      @cynthianuzzo3047 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      She was wonderful and left such a legacy ~ be aware that the museum has adopted timed entry to manage visitors so you may want to plan your visit ahead if possible. Also, the biography published last year as "Lioness of Boston' has just been released in paperback ~ I'm told it may be best read than audio.

    Nice to see I'm not the only one who knits that way! That's exactly how I knit, and even though I don't tension the yarn I get a pretty even stitch. I've can switch to continental if I need a tighter gauge, but it is not intuitive for me.

      Yes I'm totally the same! Lucky the tension/stitches are even. I also knit continentally when doing colorwork. It works a dream but when I try to knit continentally without a second color, it immediately gets awkward! 😂😂😂

    Hi Beth, I really like your podcast and your no nonsense way of presenting it and the information about Bermuda which looks just amazing. Growing up in Australia we had a fascination with the Bermuda Triangle and planes going missing there, which seems to never happen anymore, so not sure what that was all about. Also absolutely loved that you showed how you knit. I am also mainly an english style knitter (except with sock knitting where I taught myself continental) but I'm not a fast knitter so it was intriguing to see a designer knitting slowly as it made me feel ok with my pace and style 😍😄😄😍

      Thank you so much! Glad you are enjoying the videos and tidbits on Bermuda. So some Tribe Roads have evolved to be proper roads and many now have names. The ones that are still footpaths definitely get overgrown and Bermuda's Parks and Recreation Department does occasionally go through and clear them out but really its all about the foot traffic that maintains them. Some are more woolly than others :)

    Love the knits and I am also a straight sleeve fan...something to do with my er, beefy biceps I am sure! Love the history of the Island as well and the scenery! When I needed to try to knit differently for a while (long boring story there), I tried knitting English style and found that I had to do it the same way you demonstrated or I knit much much tighter than my usual (I knit Continental style). I still do it when I am weaving in ends as I go so I catch the old tail using my left hand and then throw and knit with my right with the new yarn. Whatever gets the knitting done and is enjoyable. Thanks for sharing your creativity!

    Hi from Houston! Another fantastic episode, Beth! You mentioned Onion Pie. An aunt of mine used to make a fabulous one, and I’m still trying to get that recipe. Hers was fairly simple as I remember, but truly one of the best things I’ve ever tasted.

    You really are blessed to live in such a beautiful place. I love the turtle neck, I might well incorporate that into my test knit for the Bermy Basic 22 as I have plenty of yarn and I think it gives the sweater a lovely, cosy look and feel. I'm off to see if I can locate some Bermuda onions .....

    Well that goes for me too, I throw the same way and I know its slow but I haven’t been able to make the switch and I’ve tried. I’m happy to say I’m okay with it! I am waiting for the glimmerview, I looked at the yarns and love the combo you have. June 6th is on my calendar. The Bermuda Onions sound amazing. I’ve been to Bermuda several times and have never tried them. Ramps were just available in NJ and they are lovely but short lived. Keep up the designing and love your podcasts short and long!!

    I knit like you, even how I hold the yarn. I tend to be too shy to knit around other knitters because of the commentary I will get on efficiency, tension, and speed. I was actually taught how to knit by a continental knitter and she was very big on doing what feels right and this style is what always felt right. Now that I want to do more complicated color knitting, I'd love to learn continental. :)

    • @bethmacdonaldstone
      @bethmacdonaldstone  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh you should, just for the second color. For me, as long as my right hand is holding the yarn how I like it, I can really get going with the left hand with the second color knitting continentally. If I'm trying to knit that way with just one color, it doesn't work! How silly! Anyhow, you might be like me and just pick up the left hand organically as long as the right is doing its usual. Good luck!

      Great suggestion! Sure thing! I'll be sure to discuss. In the meantime - the men wear lovely cotton or linen shorts with their button down shirts, ties, blazers and knee socks. That's our business attire and the National dress. I'll be sure to expand on that in another podcast. Thank you!

    • @bethmacdonaldstone
      @bethmacdonaldstone  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh interesting question! We do have mosquitos but not many. There is an active drive to prevent standing water in gardens so as not to breed them. Our lifestyle here is very open windows and doors. Its lovely until it gets too hot in the height of summer❤
