      Bird claimed the only thing he said the night of their tussle was constantly updating Dr J on how many points they each had in the game. When they fought, Bird said he was up somewhere around 32 to 8.

    Both of them were great players… Dr. Jay was a superb athlete and gentlemen… Larry bird came from poverty and survived on true grit. Both of them played for great teams… The fight they had was a manifestation of all those things and even though it looked ugly… It was a glorious example of competition and pride

      Jordan would never trash talk Doc. Doc was Jordan's idle. But Bird talked crazy trash to him during a pre-season game in which they got into it. He told Doc "why don't you just retire".

    Dr J was an all around force. In his prime, he was getting two blocks and two steals per game along with all those points and double digit rebounds.
    He even had a couple of five by five games.

      The east may have been a beast, but in the west the showtime Lakers were MFers. From 80-91, 12 years, the showtime Lakers went to the NBA finals 9 times, and won it 5 times. 76ERS won 1 finals, Celtics 3, Pistons 2.

      According to the only ref there, Dick Bavetta, the fight between them broke out because of this, “As every shot went in that Larry took, he went further back and he kept on saying to Erving, ‘Aren’t you gonna guard me?’.” that was during an interview with The Basketball Hall of Fame.
      Not to mention that fans could hear him counting the points of each individually ... 42-6 when they were kicked out. If you ever see video of the game he even makes small hand movements backing up that he was reminding Dr. J all game of the personal point difference lol.
      Now, to Bird, he may not consider this actual trash talking...The rest of us know that he was absolutely trash talking.

Doc got upset because bird was talking trash on a game that didn’t count and doc was a little older and he wasn’t really trying to play that hard on a exhibition game in pre season and told bird to chill with all that bs talking , he didn’t stop and Doc hit him with a smooth three piece!!

    Bird made the steals that changed the game. I remember watching Boston and Philadelphia playing for the chance to play for the championship. Those were some of the best games I had ever seen.

    This short would be contradicted by Charles Barkley.
    Charles was fined $5000 by the NBA when he tried to break up the fight between Bird and Irving.
    Charles also stated that the fight was because Bird's trash talking and Irving had enough of hearing Bird's disrespect of him.
