Well I thought that was good progress. It's all fiddly stuff you can't rush if you want the car to work well. You nearly got 1000 likes. Should get there 😊
Use different shaped blocks of wood to persuade the wing to move

It's all about the gap with panels, I always fit with tiny rivets first that can be removed after the welds go on. A tip for brake pipes is use a socket of the best size to curve the pipes around, much neater and no guesswork. You've missed out the little washers behind the screws on the door locks as an observation. The wing is a pattern part and the front line up is essential, the rear can have metal added if needed, a common problem with most aftermarket panels.
It's going OK but time is the best friend you have on restoration work, that and a cuppa between problems.

Silver Zinc looks good on the deaf aid beige. Lining up doors is tricky, start at the back and work forward, i did an RS mk2 doors and it took 11 pints of ale till i was happy !!

@@marcushayesford yes I agree but the rubber at the top flowed away from the door. But it has been a long time now.
@@rikki920 yes the rubber bit can be turned around. It’s the metal bit of the striker that is hitting the paint before it has a chance to hit the rubber bit. 👍

Marcus the car is to your spec and its a really nice build it doesn't matter what other people think you have done some really nice touches to it, I've not heard of two or four door wings being different they should be the same pattern wings will give a little too. Silly question but how are you going to lock the rear doors without the door lock buttons. I’ve got a 4 door as well so this sounding a good idea until I couldn’t work out how you’re going to lock it. Fronts will be easy due to using the key.

I've seen flush mounted ones (prob on a mk2 fiesta or something now I think about it lol) they might do the job if you could mod them on.
I think the door mech would have to be the type to unlock the door/pop the pin when you pull the normal inner handle for them to be truly functional though, otherwise you'd only be able to lock the door once, then it'll be locked forever. 🤣

I’m sure the cage nuts is fitted by inserting the bolt from under the wheel arch and into the engine bay. The cage nuts is the only nut used. I wouldn’t worry about the front wings. Make sure you align rear doors with the rear quarter and same with the front doors. You could use a block of wood and hammer to the door closures (with care obviously) to gain a couple of mm. once doors are fixed then you can attach the wing. Some fettling will be needed I’m sure. The bolts for the servo tower go through from under the guard 😅 into the cage nuts
Loosen the doors slightly then close them and adjust and tighten it will help
The bolts for the servo go in from under the wing into the cage nuts. No need for other nuts the .
The doors on these old escorts are known for door alignment problems, keep at it and you might it good enough 👍

Getting there.just a hint when panel gapping any car.always start from a fixed panel,in this case the rear quarter.get rear door to where you're happy,then fit front door.finally fit the wing.hope this helps.ive spent 4 hours gapping a single panel before now.ive also had nightmares adding and removing metal from escort aftermarket wings.

There is absolutely no difference in front wings between 2 door or 4 door on mk2 escorts ( and yes vans and estates are all the same too) no ford ever made has a different wing between same model “ door variants “ as you know ford in particular way back were the firsts kings of parts interchangeablity, and always had the most scaled down parts lists of any manufacturer for decades before others saw the light lol, I’m a new visitor to your channel and you have gained a new subscriber, you do things much as I do myself tbh and I’ll have to watch back some of your earlier videos now, ( all you have there is the typical pattern part finessing lol, altleast these days they are more decent than they used to be, (I’d never want to go back to the days of “ pop- on again!!!) 😂keep up the great work mate 👍
The Right front door striker is a Left hand one
Hi Marcus I don't know if their any good but on Fleabay they do a locking retaining washer in diffrent sizes called Starlock Washers which will fit in with build two fold, first you are a Star for keeping us entertained and included us in the rebuild, (sound like a Dick Emmery saying) Second wait for it their Zinc Plated. I was told: When trying to sort panel gaps, start at the panel that doesn't move.
The rear quarter doesn't move, so you'd need to start at the rear doors and work your way forward 👍🏾

line up the back doors if you ar 100% orginal on damege and then the front doors and then the wings its the onely way to do a propper job

Put spacers under the wing on the back corner just to bring it flush....patern parts....
Im doing my mk2 the same way you are.. except im rattle canning the engine bay.. ive got 3 kids and a shoe string budget😅
All of the little bits take time mate, I can't remember there being a difference between wings on the saloons, I'm sure they're the same. Try and find a breakers with some old Fords in, easier said than done..think those brake pipe clips were widely used. As another comment the rubber on the striker plate is the wrong way round. What about finding some Mk3 Escort door lock rods, so they're flush when locked... Thing is if they're going to pull the door top for the button they'll just pull it further to pull the handle 😡 fit a decent cut off switch mate 👍

The pantern wings for the drivers side are a bit short at the front end. I actually looked at three different wings all the same. The passenger side is good though. The old trick for gapping is an old pound coin. Oh and I just added some lead to shape the front part to meet the bonnet edge
Don't worry about touching up paint damage, mate... the Viva has bever been on the road yet & ive knocked off 4 bits of paint... one big long bit down the end of the passenger door 😂 touched in & flatted/polished... doesn't quite match, but who cares? Show cars are nice, but you can't use 'em!! Cheers. Leigh. PS: pattern wings always need the rear edges cut & extending towards the scuttle.

If I was to restore a car in the way you are, inside out, I would do it the same way as well, to save anything from damaging the outer paint while work in progress.

Hi mate, I think Stage 1 Motorsport do bulk head clips for brake line for £6 each.
2 door and 4 door wings are different on the mk1s and I think mk2s are different aswell from what I can remember to do with doors are bigger on a 2 door

From a restorers point of view. Your doing it the right way. Just mask everything up when doing the exterior pant job.
Those pattern wings never fit properly, and many hours of cutting, reshaping and lead loading can be required to get a perfect fit. Don't let perfection be the enemy of the good. Get it as close as you can and send it. 😎😎😎

Can you not just slot a couple of those metal p clips you know make the holes where you fix them into the shape of a key hole and slot over the nail jobbies

Get the right clips … it’s the small detail that matters mate …. Get a jar and put £2 a week in it then your have the money in no time 👍🏽
When I built 'Esther' I threw loads of money at small insignificant bits ( I spent £50 on the small wire that goes into the gearbox for instance) but I wont be doing that with 'Heidi' I can drill 2 holes and utilise the clips I already have which will be free. There are way more important bits that will require funds and the truth is I live everyday with the possibility that I might not actually be able to afford to finish the build anyway. The positivity I get from my viewers is the only reason I struggle and continue on. 👍
