I grew up with Scott Pilgrim and matured with the story. I personally really liked _Scott Pilgrim Takes Off_ and how it changes the story to flesh out the league and other characters. I have no words to describe how much I enjoyed seeing Matthew Patel getting a spotlight. You can really see how O'Malley's ideas matured too and the changes he made gave more depth to characters in general (even though Knives got a bit of shorter end of the stick). Yeah, there are changes that I didn't like much, such as Scott not going through the ordeal of realizing he's a shitty person and trying to improve, but they handled that in a different way that I really liked. I'll be very honest that I think O'Malley changed Scott's relationship with Knives to avoid modern controversy of a +20 year old dating a teenager and then manipulating her, and we can all agree it was creepy even back then.
Agreed, well said! Some people seem to misunderstand or misinterpret why O'malley wrote Scott's relationship with Knives the way he did, but it makes sense when you think of Scott as someone was so immature that only a naive high schooler with little life experience would tolerate him. All of the characters make fun of him for it, even his friends (Except Steven Stills, a man who is riddled with insecurities). It was supposed to be creepy, and the disturbing part was that young men dating high schoolers was fairly common in the 2000s, which I think was what O'malley was pointing to.
damn, you're so underrated. personally ive been a big fan of scott pilgrim for a looooong time, and when i watched the new series i was disappointed. but this really offers a really interesting different perspective!! great video!! gonna recommend it to my friends who didn t like the new series LOL
It's also interesting to think about the role of metafiction and intertextuality in games and the video game industry; How does the industry speak to us millennials vs. younger (or older) generations with the added dimension of gameplay and player choice? Imo video game remakes also inherently carry elements of metafiction and are kinda uniquely intertextually related to their source work, although references to days past can only be just that without much connection to gameplay or narrative (looking at you RE3 remake). Many studios have clearly taken the remake route, but that's arguably the easiest when it comes to catering to us oldies refusing to move on (heh). Then again games like Until Dawn and the Dark Pictures games seem to be on a whole different metafictional level with their slasher-film parodies in video game form. Superb video! :)
It's certainly tough to make something new when you've made something as beloved and important as Evangelion or SP! I don't envy those creators for that predicament
Get in the F*cking job Scott!
Get in the robot..... Scott?
Or we'll force Young Neil to pilot the Eva again
@@2ArtistsEXPlaindon’t do this to him he’s too young

Superb video! :)
Love this, and you guys! ❤
It's mutual! Thanks for your support, PFG. 😁
Amazing video combining Scott pilgrim and Evangelion litterally my 2 favorite things
Thanks! I feel the same. Nearly lost my mind the first time I caught the Eva reference in Takes Off, haha
Increible canal e increible video, parece mentira que tengan menos de 1000 seguidores pero espero que continuen por mucho tiempo ♥
Thanks so much for your kind words of support~ 🥰
This makes so much sense
Right?!
Amazing content as always!
Thanks, pal!
Makes sense why i DETEST Takes off its a mirror to the shallow hateful people of today instead of the people of yesteryear that were people.
How so?
Loved this video! I really got to get around to watching the new series.
You totally do have to watch it! It's fun and not too long to get into
AMAZING VIDEO!!!
Thanks so much~!
yeah
when you can only do 1 thing, you go meta. Anno and O'Malley basically admitted their limits and how overrated they are.

0:13 we deserve a proper adaptation and we can forget this woke bullshit
