Love it! Some years ago I tried creating a setup for them but I couldn't figure out how to properly separate the land/drainage from the water and it became a mess. I ended up converting it into a setup for dart frogs. The tank I used is too small for frogs though... I think I might give it another try when i get some free time. These crabs are cute/cool!
I've followed the tutorial and I built something similar. The problem is, when I've got babies crabs, they are escaping by silicon in aquarium narrows. I have a top cover but somehow they passed it through. How to prevent those lil bastards from climbing narrows?
PLEASE DO A BLUE TOUNGED SKINK ENCLOSURE!!! I would absolutely love it !! 💙 I loved the bearded dragon enclosure but I just want to see some skinks when you get one in 💖💖
I have a question, yes ! I'd be interested in having those adorable crabs, but I don't really want to end up with lots of little babies ; I wouldn't know what to do with them. So, is it okay to have only males or only females ?
Hey i just thought of getting these little guys. I have a 45g tank i believe. would it be reasonable to make 2 land areas on either side with water in the middle? Also where could i find drift wood and live moss?
AMAZING !!!!!i have a 10 gallon tank that i am going to divide in half with A piece of plexiglass using aquarium silicone. i want to make one side dry for a non brackish crab and the other side i would be running as a small 5 gal fish tank. not sure what i am going to keep in there maybe some cherry shrimp or some sort of tiny fish but i will be growing some cheap plants that if the crab decides he wants to eat wont be such a big deal.
I wanna build an enclosure for about 8 vampire crabs but I also want to know if they will get along well with other animals I want to also have in the enclosure such as fresh water shrimp, clams, and about 2 coy fish. Is that reasonable? Also how often do u have to change the water and do u ever have to replace the foam block?
So I like this design and I'm trying to find something I'm satisfied with making aswell. Your guide is super useful as I'm new to the hobby. But I'm wanting to make a small riverbed they can live in. Any suggestions on how to aproach this?
Where did you get the foam filter block? The link that was provided for one sends me to a page that has a block with two big holes in the middle of the foam.
The Zoo Med Reptisoil he used is the same soil you find in bioactive vivariums. You should be able to use any plants you want, provided the soil layer is thick enough. Even carnivorous plants and orchids, according to the label on the bag. Whatever you use, just make sure the roots of land loving plants aren’t sitting in water. Amphibious plants and aquatic plants probably won’t mind wet roots.
This is very useful information. I'm wanting to do something very similar. I want something that is like this and a planted vivarium enclosure for geckos or maybe a green basilisk with fish. Is it possible to have a bioactive version of this? Something that is more of a self contained ecosystem complete with microfauna were the water is pumped from the land side through the foam and hydroball up into a waterfall .
Yes, but this will require the bottom of the water fall to have bio balls or porous material to allow the water to flow through the bottom to allow the water to return. You will need to also consider water evaporation and you will need refill the water source periodically.
Hello from England. Red claw crabs are always sold as fresh water & although they live ok in fresh water they do better in Brackish, is it the same with these? Are they TRUE fresh water? Thanks.
no expert but i have a tank of 6 geosparma (vampire crabs) and they originate from strictly freshwater areas and they thrive in my fresh water paludarium
Where did you get your vampire crabs I've been struggling to find some online and I don't think I can find some in my regular pet stores near me nobody's probably ever going to read this because I'm posting this really late so I don't know if anybody's going to read it or reply so yeah if you know any places please tell me
Bro im from poland and we have pet shops called kakadu here u can order yourself this crab and they ill call u when they gonnna have them in shop meaby u can order them in some of your countries petshop
Almost certainly. They are around the same size, so the corys can't even fit the claws in their mouths, let alone the whole crab. The crabs probably wouldn't be a danger to the fish either.
I think you might have the first actual informative video ever on vampirecrabs. I've been searching for years!
YAY! So glad to be helpful to you!
AMAZING!! These little crabs seem like they could be my favorite.

Thank you for making a video of a realistic set up that looks good, & simple enough to actually make!!
Please have this guy make more videos he's awesome!! LOL
Should you replace everything with fresh new soil, substrate, etc... after a certain amount of time. If so, how often?
Great video and good quality. I plan on upgrading my vampire crabs now!
Cool set-up and interesting little critters. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for responding I'm new at this and your videos breaks it down for me where I can understand...,I love them thanks again
If I can’t get my Axolotl I’m doing this
PLEASE DO A BLUE TOUNGED SKINK ENCLOSURE!!! I would absolutely love it !! 💙 I loved the bearded dragon enclosure but I just want to see some skinks when you get one in 💖💖
I gave you an invisible high five for the puns
How do you maintain this? Can you make a video for that please?
I have a question, yes ! I'd be interested in having those adorable crabs, but I don't really want to end up with lots of little babies ; I wouldn't know what to do with them. So, is it okay to have only males or only females ?
Thank you for this link! Live you guys
You are an artist!

Dude, you rock!🤣🤣
I hope you get extra for being the star of your youtube channel
What’s the name of the water plant you used? Can’t find it anywhere
Won't they crawl out of your tank setup? Mine keep escaping
Nice tank....it looks natural as heck!! But I have a non related question can u use substrate with a under gravel filter?
Phoebe Brooks yes it's what it's made for
Doesn't that speak for itself. Under... Gravel...😅
Wouldn't crabs go better on sand tho? Most crabs legs break off because of gravel.

they need good tape in top of the aquarium they can climb the silicon

My question is can you be my friend?

Thanks bro! Realy helpful!

Is there a video on how to clean this cage?
I want one now! Lol. Where do I source those cute little crabs?
I was lucky enough to find them at my local pet shop but maybe search online, I got 3 for 10 each.
Where exactly is your local shop? I have had problems with big als vampire crabs. I built this exact setup in the video even.
As always, Nice vídeo. Thx.
Nice tank keep it up

what kind of water should you use? and how do you manage the water to make sure its good and clean for the crabs?
I need help with more information on vampire crabs
Great job!! What kind of plants do you recommend both water plants and moss?

Do you have hardy amphibious pets to recommend for beginners?
Hello,would u post about crocodile skink? 😊..
Would these little guys live well with some Khuli loaches in the aquatic parts or would they try and eat or hurt them?
Do you feed thum in the water or in a bowl?
Thx for the Very informative video !
That’s pretty sweet! 👍
Can I mix with red apple crab? Thanks
Hi T , can I add succulent plants into the little crabby's area
Do you have any stores in Michigan ??
Won't the filter foam barrier get nasty over time with the water flowing through it?
Could you show more of those crytal seapora tank.
informative and entertaining
Won't they climb up the cords? What kind of lid would you use?
Where is your store if you have one
oh my gosh..tyvm for this video. it sure does help.
Will these guys eat cherry shrimp? I don’t wanna mix them if I can’t.
I don't know if I will get an answer but can I put fish in the water side if I get a large enough tank?
can you do a red clawed tank set up? or can you do the same thing here to a red clawed crab tank?
Do you have any tips on hiding the foam block?
I’m stealing this idea for my Paludarium and there’s nothing you can do to stop me mwahaha!
Do they not escape?
will this work for fiddler crabs?
Super fun

Could I get a list of the plants used
Does the water need to be treated like a fish tank, or will normal RO water be fine for them?
What's the ideal temperature and what filter?
Is it me if is Thomas the cutest!!! I’m excited about getting a Halloween crab but clean the tank may be a pain 😔😔
Where did you get the crabs
How many do i have to have minimally together?
Thomas is so amazing
Where did you buy your crabs?
What kind of sand did you use?
were can i get some over seas
are they legal in Australia
Nice!!😊..
Could this setup also work for red clawed crabs?
Red claws aren't freshwater crabs, despite what many pet stores claim
Do I need to use a lid or something+ light?

late night cat draws I’m in Hong Kong and found them in cups. I thought they wouldn’t be able to sell them there though.
Good video bro you give me chest a good idea for my crow craps
Do they need water changes/ a filter
Dr.Albert Vonfranz PhD Of Biology, you’d think a Doctor with a degree in Biology would know the answer to his own question. Lol.
How much does it cost to make the tank
What is the name of the moss used o land? Java moss? Sphagnum?
Do we need to change water?
Yes, water changes are good to keep your crabs alive. Do about a 25% water change every week.
Are they safe with decent sized Cory catfish I’m talking almost an inch and a half
Almost certainly. They are around the same size, so the corys can't even fit the claws in their mouths, let alone the whole crab. The crabs probably wouldn't be a danger to the fish either.
hello that such a good day, someone will know who makes shipments to Mexico I'm interested in geosesarme
Hay yo fan of u
those side jokes are so cheesy
It's a Gouda :p
u must be the jim carrey of the paludarium world.
Are those the red devil vampire crabs? XD
how to remove crab poop on the land area?
hermit crab tank setup
Cleaning it looks hard ;(
Thomas B what happens to the balls on the dry end then?? Won’t they finally get moldy or produce toxins in the water??
Just imagine how many would live in my forty gallon.
The only twelve gallon tanks i find are huge do ypu mean litres
