Having unlimited air really lets you appreciate the beauty of exploring underwater. It’d be broken if too many games did that, but for a level like Jolly Roger’s Lagoon, it’s indispensable. Lord Woo Fak Fak is another nightmare of a boss due to the aiming nature of his fight, but he’s got a pretty epic boss theme. Speaking of, while I love the main theme of Jolly Roger’s Lagoon, the underwater theme is unbelievably serene.
Nice to see someone here who actually knows the epsilon character. I’m not super well-versed on the Greek alphabet and only know a handful of the letters, but I do know the ones I’m familiar with pretty well. The reason I’m saying all this is because I’ve seen one person refer to the E symbol as “Xi” (WTF is that? This LP has taught me so much about this game that I’ve beaten multiple times. Up until now I never knew you could use regular eggs to knock out the fish’s teeth
As a kid I remember never being able to beat Fak Fak's eye phase, and you did it in one go with the additional handicap of the harder-to-aim Xbox version, nice work!
35:10 Lord Woo Fak Fak actually has dialogue if you swim up to his face or shoot more grenade eggs at him. He says things like that he used to be a hero, knows Banjo's father (I think he has them confused for somebody else), and that he is dead with no more Jiggies, among other things.
I played through this game for the first time earlier this year, and at the time I didn't know about the swimming-speed upgrade that the goldfish gives you. I puttered through this entire stage with default swimming, it was rough. Way to beat that boss on your first try though! Even on the N64, it's tricky to hit him properly.

Reese is doing incredibly well so far. I’ll be honest, I lost count of how many Jiggies she’s gotten on her own, but it’s still fantastic. Oh, and she blew herself up once again, giving us a count of 4 for that now.
The different versions of the underwater theme in Jolly Roger's Lagoon are fantastic. B-T has great music in general, really Grant Kirkhope at the top of his game and pushing the N64 to its limit with all of the different song versions dynamically fading in and out of each other.
If I had a dollar for the amount of times Lord Woo Fak Fak killed me... I gotta say, I'm both jealous and impressed you got him in one go! Seriously though, loving this LP!😁
Grant didn’t need to go this hard with the boss music but here we are. Not only does this world have the best theme (Atlantis), it has the best boss theme too.
It's incredible how special this game and its music is sometimes... I was incredibly pissed before watching but as soon as I clicked on the video, the Grant Kirkhope soundfount immediately soothed me And we haven't even heard one of this game's best soundtrack that's in this world yet! Thank you so much for this, Lucah and Jon, seriously, I cannot thank you enough for tackling such a special game (series) to me
@@Kinnakeeter Hell yeah, my friend! Revisiting DK64 made me appreciate it even more than my childhood. I hope Lucah plays it someday Also, my stance on Nuts & Bolts is that it's..well, I haven't played it yet but I'm excited to see how the formula has been mixed up, I don't mind the vehicule part of it at all. As long as it has some wacky à la Banjo humor, I'm good
@@Anko3342 DK64 does have some nice elements, but it also has the jetpack racing and Beaver Bother, and the whole thing of needing to play large chunks of each world 5 times, once as each Kong because of the colour-coded collectibles.
@@rmsgrey Oh absolutely, the Jetpack controls like garbage and some mini games are vessel popping inducing, which is why sometimes I dread playing it. So far though, if you want a Banjo-Kazooie like experience and you love exploring (like I do), it's very much a good choice!
The underwater in this game is some of the best in any video game IMO, it really shows how far Tooie expands after the original hates having a decent water level so much. Also Woo Fak Fak really isn't that bad. People keep forgetting that the submarine exists to make the fight less tough. Mr. Patch is worse IMO since there's no such substitute.
Edit: literally unpaused the video and Jon reminded her. What I get for not fully watching the video. I think you are aware of this Lucah and just forgot, but you can hold down the buttons to swim instead of tapping. Tapping helps with small adjustments, but for longer parts like this stage, it’s pretty good to hold down.
Congrats on beating Woo Fak Fak on your first try! It took me a long while to find him since I didn't realize the locker could be blown up, and there were many failed attempts to beat him. Also, he's not actually dead, so you go back into the boss room and shoot him for some fun. Fun Fact: Lord Woo Fak Fak is scientifically inaccurate, because in real life deep sea anglerfish, only females grow into the form we're all familiar with. Males, meanwhile, look very different and are much smaller, to the point where scientists first assumed it was some parasite. Males are ill-equipped for predation and some can't even digest food properly, so a male attaches to a female and basically fuses to her, getting nutrients from her food while she gets his sperm so she can lay eggs whenever she's ready. Depending on the species, this arrangement can last for a little while or for life, and may feature one male or many attached to one female. This setup is believed to have come about to deal with the difficulty of finding a mate at such deep waters.
Something I've always wondered about Merry Maggie's predicament: How on earth did Chungus get up to the lagoon proper? Unless it's like Fish Disneyworld and there's a series of hidden tunnels they use to get around I can't think of a way he got there. Ah well. Good job on Lord Woo Fak Fak though! The first time I fought him I kinda stumbled onto him with Humba's transformation, so Jon's right that it does make things a little easier. Still not my favorite fight in the game (thinking on it now, I'm not entirely sure why my favorite is my favorite, but eh), but I do appreciate just how imposing his music is.
That's a possibility, but it conflicts with a specific moment in a later world (which I will not name to avoid spoilers) where you can't use the warp pads because you're too big. Maybe Chungus is a honey badger.
The statues are all Greek symbols, the "3" is Sigma, then there's Omega, the triangle is Delta, and the "2" is Pi, which are all Greek letters. (Yes Pi is one of them) I know this because I'm in a fraternity lol. The sigma symbol's a little wider than usual but it is sigma Edit: taller not wider
@@KazeNoKlonoa0 Oh, for me Pi looked also a lower case. Regardless, I would argue that it could be an artistic choice since capitol Epsilon would look more out of place for unaware eyes. Sigma or Epsilon, I still like the touch they made for the puzzle.
@@enitheway true, the Sigma also looked quite different from the one I learned, although for lower case Pi you could make the argument that it is more well known compared to it's uppercase variant. Still neat either way.
Lowkey though, Witchyworld is my favorite...but Jolly Roger's Lagoon is a close second. Atlantis makes the whole trek such a soothing ride and the boss theme is the best in the game It is still imprecise swimming though, which is what makes it dip below Witchyworld
oh Lucahjin, you missed a very fun opportunity before fighting the boss by accident. (still congrats on 1st try) Lord Woo Fak Fak, is one of few boss fights where you can actually fight a boss in a Transformation look. I'm not 100% sure if fighting him as regular Bear & Bird vs the Transformation makes the fight easier be it controls/aiming or slightly more difficult.
I definitely can't fault you for not seeing the order you had to shoot the statue pots, since when I first played it I floundered around with them for so long cause I never saw that. Anyway, Lord Woo Fak Fak! Or as I like to call him, Mr. Patch but underwater and less fun!
You know, I never tried swimming past the frozen octopus in first person. It's a _pain_ in third person, but first person seemed to make it, and other things like Lord Woo Fak Fak easier for you.
i am *very* impressed that lucah brute-forced the greek pots. The symbols are delta (triangle), omega, pi (the two), and either xi or sigma (the 3) (I honestly can't tell which it's intended to be - it looks more like xi to me but others are saying it's sigma)
Ok here is a trivia for lord woo fak fak, he was inspired by paul maucheck an engineer in rare who swore alot when he found glitches in his codes then screamed “woo” when they are fixed
The Self-Destruct counter for Lucah is now 6. Also Lord Woo has quotes if you visit him. A few just for being near his eyes and a few more if you keep shooting him. And a final note in advance that may help with a coming challenge, you can toggle the cursor in first person with whatever the X Box equivalent to down C is. With this transformation only you can still fire even with the cursor off, it just defaults to the center of the screen for where you're aiming.
This, in my opinion is a water stage done right. No fear of drowning, so you can appreciate the beautiful scenery. Also to quote Masae Anela "Smuggler's Cavern is SOOO PRETTY!"
Honestly super impressed you first shotted woo fak fak even as an adult this fight was rage inducing and difficult for me. The transformation in this level makes the fight a lot easier.
You're doing great Lucah! Having to not worry about oxygen makes this water level so much better. Probably one of my favorite water levels for that reason.
You are KILLING it on these boss fights! Things that could take a veteran 3-4 tries you're beating on the 1st attempt. No center-loving cursor is a match for you!
The comments seem to be in agreement that three of the four symbols are Delta (Δδ), Pi (Ππ), and Omega (Ωω). There is disagreement if the remaining is Sigma (Σσ) or Xi (Ξξ), but I find it odd that no one has suggested that it is Epsilon (Εε). I am of the personal opinion that it is Sigma, as Delta and Omega are in the upper case, and some fonts (apparently not including the one used by TH-cam) depict Pi with an elongated cross bar.
I have a theory that they knew they made such an amazing underwater world that they had to let you explore it without fear of drowning. Or maybe they learned how many people felt about Clanker's Cavern in the first game. Either way, glad they did that. Also, love all the music in this world, including the boss fight.
3:21 The underwater sections of Jolly Roger's Lagoon can still be problematic for other reasons, but not having to worry about oxygen feels so good! 10:05 Nope, these are all letters from the Greek alphabet, in particular lowercase π "Pi" and ξ "Xi" and uppercase Ω "Omega" and Δ "Delta"! 23:31 It definitely looked like you got Ice Eggs, but luckily it still counted as Grenade ones. 34:08 Whew that was close, good job defeating such an annoying boss first try Lucah, even more so on the Xbox version! 34:34 Yep, I fortuitously got to this boss for the first time while transformed as a kid.
Also! Great job with the Big Fish??? It took me actually MONTHS to figure out that you could interact with it. Honestly, Jolly Roger's Lagoon took me a few years to ever 100% complete without a guide so bravo on doing a good job so far!
Since people are leaving rhymes, here's one for the big fish: "I'm hungry and I'm grumpy and in a bad mood to boot! Swim too close and you may go down my chute!" (If you, or heck anyone gets that reference, I will be so happy.) This world definitely does bring back memories of a classic Lucahjin series though 😆
0:45 It is possible to get the Smuggler's Cavern Jiggy now, but doing it without a later move requires a specific set of conditions and good timing to cross the gap.
This is my second favorite stage in the game! It might be a tad bit on the long side but the astetic is just too pretty. At least it can be done without needing to worry about air. Also nice job on the boss fight, took me way more tries to do that when i first played this game, probably because i'm garbage at playing shooter games on console. (Forever the keyboard and mouse snob that i am)
I was today years old when I learned that so much of the things in Jolly Roger's Lagoon could be done without grenade eggs and just regular ones instead
Spiral Mountain - the cartridge in the waterfall cave Glitter Gulch Mine - Mine entrance 3 shed (near train station) Witchyworld - Dodgem Dome roof, Train station opening, The Haunted Cavern dead end (purple tunnel) there's a grab-able ledge there Isle O' Hags cliff top - Glowbo and notes on the lone pillar Unobtainables: SM - Kazooie rock at waterfall's base. GGM - Kazooie rock in waterfall cavern, Jinjo in Water storage, waterfall near crushing shed. WW entrance - Kazooie rock in the water. WW - Groggy in the inferno, Bird tracks near entrance JRL - Tiptup's unborn child, Smuggler's Cave Jiggy. Secret Codes - [received from Madame Grunty in Witchyworld] and "An egg container followed by Jingaling?" here's a fun fact: you can actually go back to Lord Woo Fak Fak's locker and he'll have additional dialog (doesn't really amount to anything, but fun world-building stuff and all) [↓ Spoilers Below ↓] The Smuggler's Cave Jiggy is actually possible to get early if you know how to do so, but i won't say how.
Fun fact about angler fish: they are always female. The males are tiny and attach to the female, eventually melting away leaving only their balls behind to fertilize the eggs. So those bumps you were shooting off weren't boils, they were balls. Off a female fish. And now you know.
I was never able to beat Lord Woo Fak Fak as a kid because I was TERRIBLE at aiming in the water. Was really satisfying seeing you beat it on the first try.
WELL DONE on beating Lord Woo Fak Fak on your first try! I’m pretty sure most of us who played this as children didn’t manage that! Also fun fact, King Dingaling mentioned this boss the first time you met him.
If I had a nickel for every TH-cam LPer who fought Lord Woo Fak Fak without this world's transformation in the past few months, I would have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
Jon, I think there's something you can do with the chest shaped rock in the center of the village that will help you guys out a ton, I'm just not sure how you're supposed to interact with it. But it will answer some questions once you do (I think you need to destroy it or something like that)
Yay! Now you're in the pretty part... and the trade-off/distraction for how awful this level is. 11:00 - the last two letters are Epsilon, and Delta. You probably already figured out which is which. 17:25 - worst, but also cutest dentist ever. And a random thought... the game should've called the grenade eggs "greneggs"
Mr.Patch and Lord Fak are some of the harder bosses. The awkward aiming makes it tough even after you know what to do. So kudos to Lucah for beating them both. The bosses later aren't as tough, up until the final battle.
Both bosses have the same issue of having weak points that require precision despite the aim controls making such accuracy very difficult (the xbox sensitivity definitely make it worse but i doubt its all that easier on n64). Oddly, many of the later bosses still require eggs but will just let you hit any part of their body. Even the final boss at least give you the courtesy of staying in place while you have to shoot at it.
One thing about this level is is the warp pads are really finicky. You have to be really precise in order to warp. Also I never beat woo fak fak with banjo and kazooie. I always used the transformation.
Pretty good brute forcing with that Greek letter puzzle, considering there were 1,296 possible solutions to that (though you tried some out at the start). Yeah, the Lord Woo Fuck Fuck fight is something I typically associate with "first-person disorientation", kind of like an underwater Mr. Patch. There are ways to make the fight more bearable, but well done with that fight!! Music's great, too (though I'd give music points to Mr. Patch).
The other eggs are used so infrequently they might as well have been excluded from the game. Also, you looked right at the thing that would grant you access to the thing you needed to get those doubloons.
LET IT BE KNOWN THAT ACCORDING TO TH-cam I FINALLY PLAYED SUBNAUTICA!

Grant didn’t need to go this hard with the boss music but here we are. Not only does this world have the best theme (Atlantis), it has the best boss theme too.
Lucahjin at 8:49 Professional motorboater.
Them trying to guess the greek letters' names almost gave me an aneurysm
It's incredible how special this game and its music is sometimes...
I was incredibly pissed before watching but as soon as I clicked on the video, the Grant Kirkhope soundfount immediately soothed me
And we haven't even heard one of this game's best soundtrack that's in this world yet!
Thank you so much for this, Lucah and Jon, seriously, I cannot thank you enough for tackling such a special game (series) to me
I've said it before and I will say it again: The first 2 games were incredible. I was just disappointed by Nuts and Bolts
Donkey Kong 64 is criminally underrated and it deserves more attention and respect
@@Kinnakeeter Hell yeah, my friend!
Revisiting DK64 made me appreciate it even more than my childhood. I hope Lucah plays it someday
Also, my stance on Nuts & Bolts is that it's..well, I haven't played it yet but I'm excited to see how the formula has been mixed up, I don't mind the vehicule part of it at all.
You can also drill the big statue coffin looking thing in the center of Jolly Roger
Or kablooey it
The underwater in this game is some of the best in any video game IMO, it really shows how far Tooie expands after the original hates having a decent water level so much.
Maybe Chungus knows how to use the warp pads :D
Maybe the big fish used the wrap pads? There's technically no reason why enemies can't use them too.
The sigma symbol's a little wider than usual but it is sigma
Edit: taller not wider
That or you learned any advanced math. Or maybe physics.
That "3" could also be Epsilon but still follows the same logic.
@@enitheway True but all the other letters are capital ones, so it being lower case Epsilon would be weird.
Atlantis makes the whole trek such a soothing ride and the boss theme is the best in the game
It is still imprecise swimming though, which is what makes it dip below Witchyworld
10:14 - Greek Alphabet: Omega, Pi, Delta, Epsilon, Omega, Pi
oh Lucahjin, you missed a very fun opportunity before fighting the boss by accident.
So this stage is a bit of a maze so the warp pads are definitely going to help
Lucah is a true gamer.
She's just holding back her true potential.😎
The 3 is an epsilon
it also took me years until i figured out that you can blow up that fish's teeth....xD
Protonjon: More weed
Lucahjin: I love weed
*Now we know what they do in their spare time* 😅🤣😂
Idk about Jon but Reese said on stream she doesn't smoke due to breathing issues, but she does take CBD gummies
I absolutely Adore the 180 Mood shift on "Chungus" as soon as it was clear he wasnt hostile.
This, in my opinion is a water stage done right. No fear of drowning, so you can appreciate the beautiful scenery. Also to quote Masae Anela "Smuggler's Cavern is SOOO PRETTY!"
I have waited years for this. I am immensely entertained by Lucahjin underwater. Thank you so much for doing this game.
The dirt clods took me an unreal amount of time to figure out as a kid. I basically skipped this stage until I needed Jiggies later.
In this episode, Luca Discovers the Legendary Pogtapus at the bottom of the Ocean.
Outside of Jolly Roger's Lagoon, remember to blow up the stone box with a Grenade in the middle cause that's a Banjo and Kazooie split pad
You are KILLING it on these boss fights! Things that could take a veteran 3-4 tries you're beating on the 1st attempt. No center-loving cursor is a match for you!
Nice work on beating Lord Woo Fuk Fuk! First person swimming is a bit cumbersome, and that fights basically forces you into it.
wait, protonjon? the guy who played don't eat the mushroom, a famous knytt stories level? my hero!
There’s an extra honeycomb piece that is very tricky to find. Here’s a hint: Atlantis’s warp pad.
Oh my goodness. I'm so happy that you love this world!!! It's just so gorgeous! It's difficult as anything else but it's so creative!
Also! Great job with the Big Fish??? It took me actually MONTHS to figure out that you could interact with it. Honestly, Jolly Roger's Lagoon took me a few years to ever 100% complete without a guide so bravo on doing a good job so far!
@@juke986 Banjo Tooie had a strategy guide that explains what you have to due.
Sidenote: The N64 had an infamously bad deadzone that most developers did account for. Or was accounted for at a system software level.
Since people are leaving rhymes, here's one for the big fish:
"I'm hungry and I'm grumpy and in a bad mood to boot!
Swim too close and you may go down my chute!"
(If you, or heck anyone gets that reference, I will be so happy.)
This world definitely does bring back memories of a classic Lucahjin series though 😆
Merry Maggie: *Speaks with the deepest voice yet*
Lucah: *gives'em the valley girl voice*
I was today years old when I learned that so much of the things in Jolly Roger's Lagoon could be done without grenade eggs and just regular ones instead
Spiral Mountain - the cartridge in the waterfall cave
Glitter Gulch Mine - Mine entrance 3 shed (near train station)
Witchyworld - Dodgem Dome roof, Train station opening, The Haunted Cavern dead end (purple tunnel) there's a grab-able ledge there
Isle O' Hags cliff top - Glowbo and notes on the lone pillar
Unobtainables: SM - Kazooie rock at waterfall's base. GGM - Kazooie rock in waterfall cavern, Jinjo in Water storage, waterfall near crushing shed. WW entrance - Kazooie rock in the water. WW - Groggy in the inferno, Bird tracks near entrance JRL - Tiptup's unborn child, Smuggler's Cave Jiggy.
Secret Codes - [received from Madame Grunty in Witchyworld] and "An egg container followed by Jingaling?"
here's a fun fact: you can actually go back to Lord Woo Fak Fak's locker and he'll have additional dialog (doesn't really amount to anything, but fun world-building stuff and all)
[↓ Spoilers Below ↓]
The Smuggler's Cave Jiggy is actually possible to get early if you know how to do so, but i won't say how.
Fun fact about angler fish: they are always female. The males are tiny and attach to the female, eventually melting away leaving only their balls behind to fertilize the eggs.
So those bumps you were shooting off weren't boils, they were balls. Off a female fish.
And now you know.
I can't believe Lucah actually pulled that off without the transformation, especially with that controller
I was never able to beat Lord Woo Fak Fak as a kid because I was TERRIBLE at aiming in the water. Was really satisfying seeing you beat it on the first try.
Now I have my conclusion with the game's inside references.
King Jinglaling references to Lord Woo Fak Fak at 18 :46 in Episode 2.
I was kind of hoping Jon would've said "Welcome to a forgotten Disney movie."
Always fight Lord Wu as this levels transformation for unlimited explody homing ammo and faster move speed.
Jon, I think there's something you can do with the chest shaped rock in the center of the village that will help you guys out a ton, I'm just not sure how you're supposed to interact with it. But it will answer some questions once you do (I think you need to destroy it or something like that)
I’m surprised Lucah found Woo Fak Fak before her Wumba Humba.
omg yes my favorite part of Jolly Roger Lagoon ! Davy Jones Locker !
Awesome job lucah!!
Yay! Now you're in the pretty part... and the trade-off/distraction for how awful this level is.
11:00 - the last two letters are Epsilon, and Delta. You probably already figured out which is which.
17:25 - worst, but also cutest dentist ever.
And a random thought... the game should've called the grenade eggs "greneggs"
glad to hear you like weed i also like watching you while smoking weed makes for some good times and some great laughs
I love how she's playing Tooie but youtube says she's playing subnautica.
don't forget to grenade the stone box in town. The crack has been very obvious every time you run by it.
I didn't even think you could do the fight with B&K I thought a pressure warning came up, turns out that's for a minigame not the boss.
@@JM64 no it’s definitely possible but it’s harder.
Patch).
Boy, that BIG CRACK on the treasure chest statue sure seems suspicious.
Man this Subnautica prequel's pretty similar to a game of my childhood!
(YT put it as Subnautica in the game title)
The other eggs are used so infrequently they might as well have been excluded from the game.
Also, you looked right at the thing that would grant you access to the thing you needed to get those doubloons.
Omega Pi Delta Epsilon
Pooping after being underwater for so long might feel good
Chungy is proof that fish are friends.
Poor fish, I'm glad I lost teeth to sugar instead of grenades.
