I know most people relate this song to those who come back from war in the US and suffer terrible consequences from it. Such is much! But I also think this song is for all of us who are fighting our way back home to find peace and love with the eternal Creator and the Creation. With our fellow humans, and most especially, with our own beings. I used to be a purist of Metallica's first 5 albums, but not anymore. By knowing some of their personal struggles and having my own struggles myself, I think they are a wonderful group still. Their music has changed, so have they. Don't we all change? My total respect to James Hetfield.

When this song came out my dad was dying I was 15 and didn’t know how to cope with it I would ride my snowmobile all night and just think. Every time I hear it I think about it. It was a hard time in my life it wasn’t easy to watch your dad take he’s last breath at 15 years old but my mom was to scared to so I had to be there with him
@zigrendon To me that sounds like the feelings of a war veteran who has returned home. He's come back to a place he thinks is safe, but he can't get the memories out of his head and is affected by PTSD.

I know the lyrics of every fucking Metallica song ever made, I can play almost everyone of them on guitar and drums(not perfect) But I haven`t been on one fucking consert yet... wtf?! But when I do, I can die happy! :`)

Music like this really means something; it's made by bands who do it for the love of making music, not for the love of making money.
