    Thanks for sharing! That really does look great in there! I must confess, though. You triggered a panic attack in me when that strap released! Please be very, very cautious out in the shop! My mentor had a rule: You must leave with the same number of fingers and toes you arrived with! Enjoy! Be safe!

      I was a little worried that it was going to wonky with the strap, but it really wasn't under too much load.

    My Father did that in the 50's. They stripped it down and put a 4x4 across with a chain on it and then got 4 men to lift it out.

    Next time use a long pole or wooden stick or long pry bar to move the bottom of the engine hoist gently. That way you can get precision movement all by yourself! Works great with helpers too, makes the job faster and easier. I think I have just done too many engine installations! lol 😂

      I struggle by myself all the time. I've used a bar to bump the picker around before.

    Love the old fords - I been using shopping carts for years - They'll handle a Ford 460 with a C6 tagged on the back.

    The carb does have a oil bath air cleaner available, they were used on some trucks and y blocks with that v clamp design

    Great channel you have very informative ford flatheads are quite a bit before my time never knew ford made a 60 hp version didn't they also have a 221 model?

    • @QuickSpeedShop
      @QuickSpeedShop  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes. The flathead was 221 cu in from 1932 until about 1938. After that they because 239 cu in.

    I always dropped the flatties into the car,with the trans in place . Lots of fun times in my teens playing with my '39 Std Coupe with a 3/8 x 3/8 C59A (Canadian military block) .
    Chatter bolts is a good name. They are needed because the transverse rear spring and torque tube allows the whole assembly to move backwards and forwards,not real important until you want to go in reverse and then the chattering starts as the back axle,torque tube and engine bounce bqackwards and forwards violently,making the whole car shake.😁😁

    • @QuickSpeedShop
      @QuickSpeedShop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The chattering sounds Ike it would be pretty exciting in certain situations!

    I don't know where you are located but the "5H" starting # on the lic. plate of your 37 Ford is for Allegany County in NYS(on a V with Buffalo and Rochester on the PA border)

      @QuickSpeedShop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I bought the plates at a swapmeet. I'm in Livingston county. Monroe, where Rochester is, would have started with M or MR.

    where does the tube coming out of the timing chain cover go to?

    I just paid a guy to pull my engine today, 59AB, he insisted in removing all the front sheet metal, but that's OK, need to do some tidy up on the chassis.

    • @QuickSpeedShop
      @QuickSpeedShop  ปีที่แล้ว

      I removed the grille because a replacement one is almost $1000 if something bad happened.

    In regards to your vacuum wipers, if you have problems with them in situations of low engine vacuum - say climbing a hill in the rain; might I suggest a vacuum reservoir? Don't need much.... there are certain cars from the 60's and 70's with vacuum-operated headlight covers or vacuum trunk releases that have what looks like a tin can under the hood somewhere with a couple vacuum nipples on it. Some are baffled, some have orifices to control inlet/outlet and, while not the perfect solution - they do help.
    I'm not super versed on Fords of this era. Do they have a vacuum pump built into the fuel pump assembly? I can't say as I've ever seen one; hence my suggestion about adding a reservoir.

    • @QuickSpeedShop
      @QuickSpeedShop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No the early Fords didn't have a reservoir. The wipers just went slow up hill and fast down hill! Honestly this car won't get driven in the rain so I'm not concerned about the wiper (there's only 1 on the driver's side). I like the Gremlin in your profile. I had a '76 258 Gremlin, 4 Eagle wagons, and a V8 Spirit back in the late '90s-mid '00s.

    • @That_AMC_Guy
      @That_AMC_Guy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@QuickSpeedShop You know, as I was typing my reply, I had a quick thought that you probably don't drive the car much in the rain - but I just didn't want to pre-judge, y'know? I drive my Gremlin in the rain (it won't shrink anymore) and I went as far as ditching the old Prestolite system for the more modern Motorcraft system that has two distinct speeds plus delay.

    nice video - thanks! I also have a 37 coupe with a v8-60 and have thought of replacing with larger flathead. A couple questions - I have heard that the larger engine cars had an extra leaf in the front spring- how does yours sit. What are u doing for radiator - the 60 rad would be too small , are they mounted at the same height?

    • @QuickSpeedShop
      @QuickSpeedShop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the 60 spring is 11 leafs, 85 is 12. I don't have the car on the ground so don't know how it sits. I'm using a stock 85 hp 1937-38 radiator. The 60 rad won't fit with the larger flathead. They are the same height, but the core is all the way to the engine side on the 60 which won't clear the big engine.

      The big v8 will drop the front end about 3/4", when its stock size tires you can see it but it isn't bad, on a big and little set-up it helps close the tire to fender gap.
