  • Today's film shows some shots of the IRT Lexington Avenue Line at Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall Station.
This station is part of the oldest subway line in New York, which opened in October 1904 and was operated by the Interborough Rapid Transit (IRT) Company. Today it is served by (4) and (5) express trains and (6) local trains, the latter of which terminates at this station.
This film first shows some shots above ground (you can see the Manhattan Municipal Building, Surrogate's Court, and some of the high-rise buildings of Lower Manhattan), before we move underground to the platforms of the Lexington Avenue Line.
    Enjoy!
    Filmed on 8 March 2015.

This is how transit videos should be made. Thanks for the informative footnotes accompanying your excellent photography. They're very helpful for us non-residents who wish to understand a complex system.

You should have left the footnotes on just a couple of seconds longer.

This is my favorite Subway Video. I am not from NY and have only been there one time. I was worried about using the subway for my first time, but actually loved the experience. Was only in this station one time, used the little kiosk elevator to descend from watching the street entertainers and visiting City Hall for photos. Am planning my 2nd trip and am looking forward to this particular area of NY the most. On your video love the informative notes with their straight forward and comprehensive information. I wish there were videos of this caliber for more of the NY Subway Stations. Thank you for the really great job you did with this one.

0:54 must say those guys do a really neat performance. Also, in the background, there is one Pearl plaza, aka the Verizon building. It's getting renovated...

Great video! Can’t believe they got rid of the R142A on the 6 train. Love the content.

They did not got rid of the R142as on the Pelham 6 line. The R142as we're sent to the 7 Flushing line for CBTCs and the rest of the R142as we're sent to the 4 line. That's the reason why they have the R62AS back on the Pelham 6 line for a big swap of there old fleets and new fleets. When the R262/AS gets here for CBTCS the R142as from the Jerome Ave 4 line will definitely go back on the Pelham 6 line for CBTC while the R262s go on the 2 5 4 S lines and probably the R262as and the R142AS on the Pelham 6 line while the R142s go on the 1 3 lines . Probably when the R262/as gets here they could put the R62AS on the 8 Thrid Avenue Elevated line real soon.

A stop for 4 5 and 6 trains. The 6 terminates here and loops around the original City Hall Station

If people should stay on the subway, you might see a tour of the abandoned City Hall station as it moves around and goes back. The original City Hall station first opened in 1904, but it closed in 1945 right towards the end of World War 2. The original City Hall station remains open to the public for tourists, and it’s still a historic landmark.

I was born in Brooklyn and miss it... Your excellent videos capture the feel of the place, I love it.
The topology was probably before the city's subways were combined. I remember when the interborough RT and the independent (IND) still painted their car different colors, even after they were combined. One was red, while BMT were olive green. Some in Manhattan were brown?

Speaking of typography crime, you’ll find that most Chinese subway systems use Arial for English signage(it seems like they just stick whatever fonts that come with Microsoft Office onto it). It hurts my eyes

Some trains say last stop witch means it went on the abandoned city hall loop

    • @Luftschlange
      @Luftschlange  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

+Dantdn Fan Exactly. While the old City Hall station is abandoned, the loop is not, and it is regularly used by the 6 train to turn around.

They should make the city hall loop like South Ferry loop with the same placements as because at the time of this comment the 6 is entirely R62A.
