@@midwesternrail4729 even sadder is that she and her sister 216 used to be preserved at the Tennessee Central Railway Museum. From preservation to active service to an unfortunate end by fire.
How cute your grandson and grandpa showing you how drive a train. Cool my father was air traffic control for airplane in the airport and control center I got to see the pilot show me how fly an airplane from Warsaw Poland back home Chicago Illinois got to see the oceans and lands plus the beautiful clouds the route airplane flying threw different countries. I cherish my memory forever and visited New York City back in 1998.
I do not know about schooling, I just know that he started in the mail room in 1954 and worked his way up. It was neat having him as my father - I did my train ride when I was 8 in 1969. I blew the horn at almost every stop from Chicago to Joliet.
Boy he's lucky...i was that age too in '96...he was 4 and got to blow the horn, im 17 and ive never gotten to pull the horn...he was a lucky boy that day...good video
WOW Nice video. I see myself portraited in this child. A place I had always been and still as an adult, wishing to be the engineer heading the passenger train.
That was what it sounded like. I was saying it probably looked like that because It was a cowled version of a GP40, which as you already know is a 4 - axle version of a SD40-2.
I am ten years old now. I see Kyle would be 18 years old now. I sure wish that I had a grandpa that drove trains. I want to be an engineer when I grow-up. I have ALWAYS loved trains and the sound of the P5 and K5-LA's. Do you know what I need to do for schooling to become an engineer? Jeremiah
@Amtrak1194 its ashame that it is like that now a days, hopefully one day i will be able to become an engineer and work on the railroad, that too is my dream.
@lailasalas I hear ya, I also blew the whistle back in 1970 but have no pics of it to remind me. But I do have this video of my son with my dad that I can live through kind of.
That's adorable. What a great Grandpa!
Thanks for the smile! I wish I was able to get a video of my son on my lap at work on an old junk WC engine...He was about the same age...
Good old amtrak F40PH!
CoasterFan2105 ik this was 7 years ago but metra has its own fleet of f40phs and never bought any from amtrak
@@rjames45_3 Metra has bought two F40phs from Amtrak. METX 216 (Ex AMTK 375) and I believe METX 215 but I'm not sure.
Edit: Yup, can confirm
@@ingenjelly5480 It is kinda sad that METX 215 has already seen it's end due to the fire.
@@ingenjelly5480 and Metra 217 that is Amtrak 364 I think!

Lucky! I bet he cherishes this memory.
I sure do! (I'm like 4 in the video, but I'm 32 now)
Kyle...theeeee best!
Beautiful kid...good job, Kyle!
you watch that kid shape up to be a lifetime railroader because of how early the exposure is
I got to do this too. My dad is a crew driver and one time he took me on a trip and I got on train and blew the horn, something I'll never forget
That young man was lucky. ✊🏿
Yep

Coolest. Grandpa. Ever.

yes I know all too well what an F40PH is, I used to work on them.
I wasn't asking if this was an F40PH.
Boy he's lucky...i was that age too in '96...he was 4 and got to blow the horn, im 17 and ive never gotten to pull the horn...he was a lucky boy that day...good video
I'm 15 years old
WOW Nice video. I see myself portraited in this child. A place I had always been and still as an adult, wishing to be the engineer heading the passenger train.
The train Is a metra Train With a Nathan P5 The reason why I can recognize is because of the engine sound
That was what it sounded like. I was saying it probably looked like that because It was a cowled version of a GP40, which as you already know is a 4 - axle version of a SD40-2.
A F40PH is a cowled (or widened) version of a regular GP40-2.
Kyle is now 30. Crazy!
I remember blowing the whistle on a Shay steam locomotive. Dream come true
I hear he now passed away 😢 I seen his other video what a great memory you will have

I got to blow the horn in a Southern Pacific C44AC!
@lailasalas I hear ya, I also blew the whistle back in 1970 but have no pics of it to remind me. But I do have this video of my son with my dad that I can live through kind of.
wow, July 1st 1996 is when i was born, in Staten Island New York
That train was going awfully fast through a town like that.
how was he able to get his grandson in the cab?
hey do you know if this job and the enineers that carry cargo , the big trailers , have the same qualifications? thank you
@Amtrak1194 I would definetly agree because you have the lives of humans in your hands.
What line do you work for?
none of the kids did the grandpas job ! nice vid .
What kind of locomotive is it? And what railroad is it too? Sounds like a Leslie horn also.
It's an F40PH-2 operated by metra, all F40PH/M-2/3 Locomotives use a Nathan P5/A.
I really hope this is my job in the future
Is Jim still an engineer, if he is the next time I ride on the Old Rock Island Line I'll see if its him
Unfortunately he passed in 2007. I think he retired in 1999
Good boy
I wish he was my grandpa
that cab looked like an F40PH, but it had the control console of an SD40 ?
was this an Amtrak unit ?
this was a metra unit
Torin has learned he doesn't need to be afraid of trains...........sweet video.........thanks for sharing
aw that how I was when I was little
I'll seriously tell him what you've said.
Yeah, 9/11 changed all the rules in the engine.
This has to be Metra
Oops sorry I saw the video where you replied to a comment that he retired in 1997 after I posted that comment a minute ago
This almost seems legal and safe?
Tom Z yeah, now you can't even sneeze without being written up.
@generfeld Sorry , I'm an engineers son but I do not know the models and how they sound different.
that's okay thanks for asking though
@Amtrak1194 I didn't know that was happening these days.
i got to drive a train locomotive in bellfont pa
lol
@drifterlove1 I'm sorry I do not know.
Dang
@ksharkey1000 yes, but he's more concerned about saving money for college.
Sounds like a metra train
haha ok
i know, well maybe one day if i become an engineer, maybe by then they will let people back in the cab.
I got to blow the horn of Miss UP 1988, a UP SD70M, and a SP AC44000CW, Lol, Kyle looked pretty content sitting in the cab of that F40PH!
Alex Siebrasse Nice, UP1988 is an ACe
That is a Metra train
I've got to do the same thing
good job dude i give you 100 likes a subs
Odd to thing he is now 14 years old hahaha 😂
The video itself was filmed in ‘96
@ksharkey1000 Yes but he' more concerned about money for college now.
I was able to blow the horn in a SP SD7.
The then-kid should post an updated video.
Luckiest kid in the world

Do shave and a hair cut
