Bwahahahahaha, that was AMAZING Tim!!!! I can't believe we learned anything without this viewpoint! Sheer perfection!!!
That's a wonderful point of view!
In case no one has told you... the way you explain things is incredibly perfect. I haven't had the chance to get back to working with my wheel, but its good to have these tips when I Do! I can't seem to center still, it always feels like I can't keep it wet but after the last video I think I know what my problem is. Anyways thank you so much for these vids!!
I swear this is almost exactly what I was about to comment. His explanation is perfect. I have centering issues too so next time I get back to my wheel I'm going to channel this video.
Katrina Robinson I know! Ive taken lessons before and just couldn't grasp the concepts but his videos make me actually understand! I just wish I could be there in person haha
I've been getting off center when I open, and am so excited to try your method tomorrow. Thank you for this excellent demo. I'll be referring to it again and again.
AWESOME!!! Wish you had classes in my area ! Thank you for your excellent teaching videos
Thanks Tim! Wow, you really do teach well and this view especially is so helpful. I'm new to throwing and had tried a number of methods for centering shown in other videos, but none work as well as yours- I'm finally centering much quicker and can pull nice cylinders now thanks to this and your other videos! Please, please keep them up!
Tim, I subscribe to many potters but your ability to translate how your hands work to move and form clay stands out amongst the best. It takes a special skill set to 'teach' - not all potters have this gift. You have it in abundance. I am a recreational potter and it took me ages to learn that my hands move the clay not the clay moving my hands. Once I had this under control, centering clay became a breeze. I have adopted many parts of your techniques and this video goes a long way to affirm that I am on track to being a much better potter. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with all of us wannabes.
Are you a member of clay buddies? Its a facebook group?
If you are not you might want to give it a try, ita very busy group which can be hard for some people but its the best thing out there. facebook.com/groups/503156473036283/
This was perfect! Thank you !
Awesome camera view! Excellent job explaining what you are doing and why.
thank you for this view, it is very helpful
I like this view for learning. Why does top wobble when finished?
Hi Tim. Thanks so much for this great video set. As a COMPLETE beginner who just got her first potters wheel for Christmas, it’s got me started. I’m not sure if I need a bat on my wheel head (it’s metal and shiny new! As I have been following the video back and forth all mor img and still can’t get the clay to stick! I also got caked in it myself so carried on watching TH-cam videos as hands too messed up to press ‘pause’ 😂😂😂. Anyway any help on whether I need a bat or just more practise gratefully received!! 🙏
Bats are not really needed. If you have pins in the wheelhead I would used a bat. If you have holes for pins, having them and using bats doesn't hurt
watching at 1/2 speed is way more fun
so from the potter’s point of view you are not looking on the side as you shape? I’ve been watching your videos everyday for the past few weeks and got to be on the wheel today! thank you for the good work!!
Hello. Can you demonstrate this lesson for big piece of clay, 6-10 kg ?
Clay on wheel this might sound kinda weird but how much is something like this worth?
Not the original commenter, but have you thought about doing something like Patreon? I've watched a lot of your videos and found them helpful, so I'd donate a few dollars a month; it's not much, but it could add up if more people do it. And you could offer perks like voting on or suggesting topics for videos, being able to ask questions, maybe private videos, etc.
Justin Brooks this may sound business silly but I just want to give back. If I start trying to make money doing this I’ll end up view grinding and stuff. That’s just not who I am.
