I’m with you all the way on this. No amount of digital filtering is going to get rid of the analog noise screwing up the gyros before they sample the data! That’s why good balancing of all the dynamic parts is so important. Technically you need to balance the props in a vacuum for weighting and then in air for dynamic blade imbalances due to variations in lift and drag! These days I’m just happy to get a chance to go out and fly, hell one of my go to quads is still rocking a Naze32, good video.
I'm a sbang-styler and I also have run 51433 since the beginning. I tried the F4S. I can actually hear the F4S vibrating under "vigorous" flying. No blackbox logs needed, I can just hear the noise some props induce. Perfect checkups because of flossing.
What you're hearing isn't vibrations under high throttle. That's the blade flattening out. If your setup is too heavy or the RPM goes too high, all props will wring out. The F4S is slightly more susceptible to this because it's a bit thinner/lighter than other blades. This has nothing to do with the balance of the prop

Electric tooth brushes are better because they generally have a 2min timer so you're more likely to end up brushing for the correct 2min and they tend to make it easier to do a good job too. Brushing doesn't replace floss however. Nothing replaces floss but anything is better than nothing.

Hi, I have a bit of a weird question-I hope that’s okay. I’ve been using your recommended Spry toothpaste for the last two years, and now I’m looking to buy it again. Should I keep using Spry, or do you have something else you’d recommend? I should mention that I’m a young male without any oral health conditions.
100% HQ props are overall better balanced. I noticed this on my Chimera 7 with HQ 7040 vs GF 7040. Also, don't use toothpaste or mouthwash with Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. It will destroy your gums. Use Sensodyne or similar toothpaste.
I recommend Pronamel or Spry toothpaste with flouride. SLS is awful but unfortunately it's in EVERYTHING just like PFAS. Humanity has really destroyed itself sadly. Social media will eventually off us with the help of AI
@@Kabab In some Sensodyne there is Titanium oxide, which at least here in Europe is rated as a plausible carcinogen. I didn't know about SLS, but my toothpaste has it. Great, time to change brands then.
Micros I've been using mostly gf, but 5" and up I've always ended up liking hq more, been using j40 for a year now, tried a few different props but I end up going back. The f4s is definitely a great prop, I stopped using it when I had a batch that was excessively fragile that's when I discovered j40s
Those peaks are cumulative over flight time. You can't directly compare logs of different flight times, you have to crop equal length sections. One flight is 1:05, another is 1:51. That's nearly double. Fly the same prop for 1 minute, 3 minutes, 5 minutes, you'll get larger peaks each time.
pretty cool. i mostly took balancing for granted. i guess drone props have always been much better than the old airplane props where manual balancing is critical. the vibration performance of that frame looks awesome, too. and those graphs are unfiltered gyro, right? that's better than some others with filtering. the seperate fc mounting plate is funny. your adaptation of the x-cell idea? but it doesn't really do what the x-cell deos. i guess the vibration performance comes from very little contact area between arms and body. but in this design that also means that bending loads are only transmitted over the vertical contact length with the arm mounting screws, which leads to thick 8mm arms. i could still imagine the frame feeling softer than usual in bending.
You're the second person to mention a separate flight controller mounting plate. That is not a separate plate. It's just abrasing plate because the arms don't have any bracing on top of them. The frame is extremely rigid and only has a very small amount of twist in the middle which is what that X brace on the bottom is helping with. These logs are all raw gyro. There is no filtering seen in these logs.
@@marc_frank yeah the lower deck has a similar overlapping X. I'll show the whole design in the next video. It's not exactly revolutionary or anything. Nothing special, just happens to work really well, be very strong and still be light.
Interesting! I have run the 51433 since I started using it, which was ~3mo after they started to make them. I have tried a dozen, ish other 5" tri blades now, and I agree with all the reasons you use them. Mine flatten out a little at the top end, and I still use them. The lumineer gatebreakers are the only other prop I like as much, performance wise. Unfortunately they are less durable, and they are SO thin they really eat into my parts when they bend and hit the querd. Used to brutalise my ESC's back when we ran em on the arm all the time. I would like to learn blackbox and you may have just tipped it into the net with that prop vibration analysis, that looks VERY useful. I wonder how much my antennas wobbling effects my tune, and would love a way of measuring it. Do you have any guidance on what part of the BB viewer I should turn on to get this? (Also BF, if applicable, i'm not sure what to set it to record, would it be gyro?)
BB is very easy for the basic stuff. Just go to the BB recorder setting tab in betaflight and set it to 'gyro_scaled' and record at like 1.5khz. I forget what the actual number is. What that does is record the unfiltered gyro. Then when you open BB viewer, just click on the graph and it's right there in front of you.
ive found HQ prop to be far more durrable with less jello compared to gemfan. Gemfan props break on crash, HQ props take dammage but are able to keep flying. This has been my experience.
I used to be a gemfan hurricane guy... Till i tried the ethix mangos, then HQ rep gave me some 5.2x3.2x3 and i had a new go to prop, so buttery smooth but still has the chooch
Props cost peanuts. Just order a whole bunch and test what you like. For me the noise profile is very important. Thats why the Gemfan 51455 are some of my favourite 5" props. Just pair it with a bit lower kv motors. Gemfan also nailed it with their new 7050 props. So powerful and stealthy.
Yeah I've been testing the 7050 and have found it to be very very good as well. I haven't tested the 51455 with respect to vibration profile. If it's design and balancing is related to the 51433, it may have a similar vibration signature
I'm still have 2205 motor and I'm running the Gemfan Hurricane 51466 V1. I wanted to ask if you recommend to upgrade to the 4S because its much lighter(4g to 3.6g) or even the 51466 V2 ? thank you!
Appreciate you sharing this excellent data from bencmarking props. How's that low profile keyboard with the concave keys? I'm a big fan of round keys like the Logitech K780. :)
I didn't think I would like the keyboard as much as I do. I absolutely love this keyboard and I'm not at all referring to anything but the actual typing experience. The key stroke feel is phenomenal imo.
Fine balance doesn't matter to me, cause I bash my quad. All my motors are slightly bent and the props are usually dinged and missing some tips. F4 flies great regardless of slight damage. I've tried different ethix props, similar performance, but they all are too brittle.
I don't know how much this applies to real world scenario, since almost nobody flies brand new motors. If you compare quad that survived harder crash and fresh one, is there still going to be this difference between hq and gemfan ?
Me, bored and drunk, trying to see how much of that might be directly related to the actual acoustic spectral content from the props just 'sounding different' as a result of differing vortex shedding behavior from wingtips, which isn't actually the most relevant thing for flight performance when we're effortlessly notch filtering this away anyhow.
Notch filters don't actually work well because the frequency is usually changing. Dynamic notches are far more effective. Also, in order to properly understand the vibration of the prop, it does need to be tested in more of a vacuum environment but I'm not sure that's needed. Regular air environment should be fine because that's what we're going to use it in anyway. Vacuum would separate the aerodynamic vibration from the weight variance vibration
My reality is any prop... I never can prop my fleet so I HAVE to use what I can get. I'll adjust my tune for a prop. I don't have the luxury of being able to puck and choose and test one vs another.
props are probably the cheapest part of this hobby. Eventually most users what more consistent performance and choosing a consistent and well performing prop is very helpful in that effort
From my experience, it gets increasingly worse once you get to 8 inches and larger. 5 inches is a very fortunate size when it comes to prop vibrations.
It gets worse as you go past 5.1". 8" is just dull feeling no matter how powerful or well tuned the craft is. The air density and physics on earth just likes the 4.9-5.1" prop size for whenever reason.
@Kabab sorry I unsubbed because you quit which ripped me but R U BACK ?? PLEASE open wide and do you stories/ trips. Serious you are the ONLY dentist I miss.
The sbang is a very nice and snappy prop which also feels excellent but it's just two inefficient for me too use on a regular basis. I haven't yet looked at the vibration profile from that prop
I honestly don't fly brand new props for long enough to even care about this level of prop balancing precision on 5" quads, at least one blade is bent back in place after a pack or two lol

@@drdrhelmut it's so sad how humanity has literally poisoned itself so badly
When are you restocking the store? Specifically the rest of your motors?
Micros I've been using mostly gf, but 5" and up I've always ended up liking hq more, been using j40 for a year now, tried a few different props but I end up going back. The f4s is definitely a great prop, I stopped using it when I had a batch that was excessively fragile that's when I discovered j40s
@KababFPV -you gotta try the J40 props
Oh i looove these kind of videos!
Also that isnt a messy desk please dont be modest
@@Kabablooked like it at 0:39
but there is a tiny sliver that can be seen toward the front, so the bottom plate has the same x as the brace
This video was too short!
I have been flying HQ for several years now .
ive found HQ prop to be far more durrable with less jello compared to gemfan.
Those 5.2x3.2x3 dissapointed me. I wanted 5.2" props, but they arent 5.2" props. Compare the back to back
Props cost peanuts.
I've always preferred HQ but I fly 3.5inch
The key stroke feel is phenomenal imo.
it's the MX Keys, isn't it? i've considered the MX Mechanical but my keyboard works fine
@@marc_frank yeah it's the MX keys
Fine balance doesn't matter to me, cause I bash my quad. All my motors are slightly bent and the props are usually dinged and missing some tips.
F4 flies great regardless of slight damage.
I've tried different ethix props, similar performance, but they all are too brittle.
When you start from something that's better balanced, it's still better balanced after bashing.
HQ has always been my go to, only gemfans I run are because HQ doesn't make the size 😂
if i may be so humble as to ask for a 1s quad suggestion? my goggles are analog and my radio is DSMX
Now try hqprop J40’s on a log, it’ll blow your mind, i’m literally seeing nothing but flat lines and small spikes
can you test nazgul f5 prop, please
All that vibration "noise" has to seep into the flight controller response dependent on FC isolation.
You’ve heard of pidtoolbox guy but have you heard of proptoolbox guy?
PUES PARA MI LAS TRANSPARENTE ,hay un video de una fábrica chiná donde los sacos llenos de promesas llegan al techo ,😮❤🎉
Gemfan have really good props, impresive durability a d quality. Hq make good props not good result so Gemfan its my only option
what would be more ideal for racing, the low vibration or higher power?
Well it would be low vibration and high power. Power and vibration are not related. More power doesn't mean more vibration at all.
If u can see desk it’s not a messy desk. Cmon man get some projects going
I prefer HQ over GF, because my experience has been that GF are a lot louder. And more noise (to me, at least) means less efficiency.
Interesting, I'm actually looking for quieter props! Right now I'm using GF 51466. Any recommendations on quieter props? Or what props are your go to?
Hey doc, how you doin'? =)
Doin alright. Absolutely exhausted from existing in the world but okay. Hopefully you're doing well too
Does this also aplly to 3" props (gf 3016 vs HQ 3x1.8x3)?
Dunno. Haven't tested that. I think it would be very interesting to test as it absolutely makes a significant difference in flight performance
@Kabab sorry I unsubbed because you quit which ripped me but R U BACK ?? PLEASE open wide and do you stories/ trips. Serious you are the ONLY dentist I miss.
How would u compare the F4s vs. the SBang prop on light 5" quads?
The sbang is a very nice and snappy prop which also feels excellent but it's just two inefficient for me too use on a regular basis. I haven't yet looked at the vibration profile from that prop
@@Kabab sry, which prop do u mean, which is nice and snappy but inefficient? F4s or SBang?
@@rawpicsfpv3516 sorry, text to speech messed it up. I corrected the above post. I meant to say S-Bang but it corrected it to 'the best thing'
I honestly don't fly brand new props for long enough to even care about this level of prop balancing precision on 5" quads, at least one blade is bent back in place after a pack or two lol
It would assume this would be the case however it's not true. If you start from a better balanced prop, it's still better balanced after some damage.
Just ordered a bunch of gemfan props from you for one of my prototype frames. I mostly fly the f3 props but I have been trying the f4s lately. Just ordered your 22mm motors yesterday after talking with Alexandre Arvinte. He swears by your motors. I'm excited to try them on my next frame. Designing frames, but still trying to wrap my head around black box
Because they last longer!!!
So in short , gemfan step your balance game up.
Ciottifpv is going to piss himself when he sees this video
😂 now what?
@Kabab ciottifpv swears he has proven that HQ props are all horrible and unbalanced and that Gemfan props are the best, and its undeniable fact. But I bet he has never read a blackbox log comparing the two. I can just imagine he's gonna freak out when he sees this.
@@661FPV I've never said any of those things, I have said that in micro props there have been a few HQ's that weren't balanced enough for even a stock PID tune and I've never come across a Gemfan prop that was that far out of balance, please don't put words in my mouth dude, not fucking cool
1. No bench test rig photos? Idle rpm? dB? Hz? Without props?
2. Different pitch profile on same idle rpm = different vibe.
3. Those are gyro noises dampened on frame (either loose or clamped 🤷🏻), Ro = ?
4. Ofkos no bi-blade, quad blade, 6-blade - typical. 🤦🏽♂️
5. Should props balancing the issues, each identical props got issues?
HQprop & Gemfan are just brands, no sciences on their name. Bias yes.
P/s: Props are either good or worse on that config only. This is the way. 🙊
