I grew up "lawnguyland " in Nassau county, and now live in rural minnesota. I'm worried I'll eventually lose my accent that I'm actively trying to not lose it lol. my mom grew up in the Bronx and lived in Oklahoma for many years as an adult and she still has the Bronx Irish accent. she hasn't lived in the Bronx in almost 40 years and still has it so many I'll keep my accent though I've know life long new Yorkers move to North Carolina or Georgia and start talking like a southerner after a year or two

I'm from the Bronx, born and raised. I moved to Pennsylvania and friends and family say I losing accent just a little bit. I'm 33 years young and I still talk like a New Yorker. LOL. Some ppl here in PA say that they can barely understand me! But the way they say certain words kill me. Example, the word "wash" they add an R to the word. So it's being said, "warshed" ah man. I loovvee my New York (BX) accent.

Don't ye dare listen to them, for Southern accents are similar to songs; ye all sing-talk, not talk, and that soothes the soul! Southern accent is the best of all American accents, and the Northern snobs or yankees, as ya'll rightly call them, is jealous they can't talk that nicely that they make fine of ya'll! I wish I could speak with a Southern accent but it's so damn hard! :-(

Somehow the New York accent sounds very High German to me and therefore
appears to sound well-spoken and educated to me. When Americans tourists come
to Europe, and you notice they can't be British but stem from the US, they often have this strong "er" as their basic modulation. As in Hamm-ER. I noticed that New Yorkers do not share this habit at all. What is the hesitation vowel in New York accent?

Those asking if this is true i have the answer. the typical New York accent is only for people in the NYC and Long Island area. I am from Long Island and for those that don't know Long Island is located right outside of the New York City borough of Queens and Brooklyn. I have been told that i do have an accent and yes a lot of Long Islanders and people from the boroughs of Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island share the same accent with little inferences, tawwk and dowwg are true.
