A main character in the story I’m writing is a lifelong New Yorker and I’m trying so hard to hear his voice/accent properly in my head. These tutorials help so much. Thanks hugely. :)
Ah, thank you! I'm creating a five-minute radio play of a scene from 'The Great Gatsby' for an assignment, and I've decided to use accents to help differentiate the characters speaking. I can already do a soft British and Trans-Atlantic accent, so I'm learning the New York accent for Wolfsheim's dialogue. This has helped so much. Thank you again! This was one of the best videos I've seen for this accent. Straightforward and to the point.
I do a lot of Roleplaying games and impressed the hell out of my group with the Russian accent I picked up from your earlier vids. As a life long New Yorker I've always wanted to learn the classic New York accent. Thank You for your Videos!!!!! 💖❤️✌️😘
Native New Yorker here (sadly without much of an accent myself) and this is pretty solid. I crank mine up when I'm out of town, or if I've had a few drinks
Thanks, this was really useful. I'm fleshing out a character and needed these tips. However, your video was so interesting I got sidetracked and couldn't stop listening!
Born in Syracuse, moved to newbourgh. Was there for 11 years. I moved the to the Midwest. My teachers always thought I had a speech problem cus I couldn't pronounce my Rs. I'm like, I'm from New York lol
there's a small amount of th-stopping you can hear too, so the "the" in "drawing my attention to the raindrops rushing through the harsh light" sounds more like "duh" than "thuh"
I already have a New York accent and not even from New York. I was always curious how this can be? My parents are from Italy. Someone told me because my parents are from Italy. That's did make sense too me compared too what some other people said. Does anyone else know why I have a New York accent? It comes out sometimes. And some people notice it and think I'm a New Yorker.😊 But of course I'm not. Love my New York accent.
I think it's because Italian accent has been associated with New York for a long time now because it used to have a huge Italo-American population that has contributed a lot to New York accent, cuisine, culture and its traditions. I have never met so many Americans of Italian descent anywhere except in New York.

What are the significant differences from the British accent? There are big similarities, it is difficult not to switch to the British
