      @JosephFuckinStalin ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@weedthepeople2795 It's hard to get through to a lot of scientific minds when it comes to this subject.
      The problem is these people are "realists" and they prefer data so they're not going to entertain the alien talk. I empathize with their scepticism but their scepticism does go a little too far.
      You'd have to have an alien body right in front of a guy like this in order to make them believe

    • @iceman49bg
      @iceman49bg ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JosephFuckinStalin Yes its REALLY hard to convince people of something with zero evidence. calling someone a "realist" because theyre a scientist means nothing. theres literally no proof of aliens having visited earth but TONS of scientists will entertain the idea that aliens exist. Theres even astrobiologists. legit 130 IQ people dedicating their careers to the prospect of alien life. and they would KILL to have one in front of them. you say believe like it means more than physical evidence. faith doesnt get us iphones and GPS. Neil doesnt need it in front of him. He would gladly believe in those alien bodies if at least a few respected scientists in their respective fields gave the thumbs up. but that has yet to happen. ever.

    • @dannygreen592
      @dannygreen592 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, just that J doesn't understand the simple understanding of magnetism.
      But that's it tho "If I don't understand or if I'm not smart enough to understand what it is, it must be God"
      Or it's most likely that you just don't have the understanding. "Simple" people are why there is so much religion and for that.
      Go read some books.

    • @davetoms1
      @davetoms1 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dannygreen592 go learn some manners. No need to insult an internet stranger to get your point across. I do read books. I'm well informed on the nature of physics, fundamental forces, and arguments to philosophically dismantle religious opposition to science. I already knew all about the dangers of using "god" to explain our ever-shrinking areas of ignorance. Read my comment again: I used the laugh emoji to convey my statement "Must mean they're miracles" _was a joke_ because _of course_ simply not covering it in one TH-cam video cannot be considered evidence for throwing away an entire field of physics.
      Next time you think about insulting an internet stranger to get your point across, take a break, touch some grass, and think about how you can do better.

    The aircraft J was talking about was a Hiller flying platform made by the US Navy in the 1940's that used two 44 horsepower (33 kW) Nelson H-59 piston engines, coupled to the propellers by a modified helicopter transmission built by the Industrial Power Division of Hall-Scott. It did fly!.. But it was obviously very loud and extremely dangerous to operate so the project was discontinued.

    • @scottjarm6898
      @scottjarm6898 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's been done with Beetle wings it's been done with electromagnetism there's at least three different versions all using the same principles fundamentally.
      I love how Tyson talks about Clinton's junk but doesn't bother to bring up the EpiPen situation that was covered up for how long with enough cash and force you can keep just about anything secret for as long as you want. Well not from magnetoception or the natural instincts you've been trained to ignore through public school indoctrination.
      That magnetception, aka 6th sense is what detects entanglement between electrons which fill empty space. At least inside the heliosphere that envelopes around the solar system from the sun. I was referring more to what Tyson's friends would call the quantum foam.

    • @djfloodmusic
      @djfloodmusic ปีที่แล้ว +39

      I mean he admits he only has a ninth grade education, he's got to know that he might be wrong about some things, which means he is intelligent and an objective thinker in that regard. But sometimes it's easier for some people to simplify things you don't have to think further about in order to get through life. I have great respect for Violent J as an artist and what he has accomplished, and even moreso when he was confronted with a contradictory perspective to his beliefs but didn't shout it out as being wrong. That's a true level of intelligence, to be open to new knowledge but to also approach with skepticism and a need for verification, just as NDT did when shown the alien footage.

    • @bvdek
      @bvdek ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@PneumaNoose Well said. That's what everyone is really trying to point out.
      Big intellect having a big ego is no suprise, it's the lack of self awareness and social/emotional intelligence (or worse, a disregard for it) that I think bothers most ppl.
      It's also quite an indictment on his intellect to be either so oblivious to those character flaws, or to not care to address them at all.
      Arrogance really can blind side n undermine the intellect/mind - ironic that he mentions how easily our minds can be fooled, but is seemingly ignorant to the fact that our own hubris is just as (if not more) powerful than any sensory illusion.
      Most highly intelligent ppl are also highly self aware, as at minimum u need to be aware of ur own internal bias n blind spots. Being in touch with ur fallibility helps to account for that.
      It all feels very self indulgent and egotistical - his need to assert/display his intellectual dominance/superiority over anyone at all, let alone a much less educated performing artist who's just genuinely curious.
      Most intellectuals and academics, especially those accomplished in their field, know they're smart and don't feel the need to showcase it to other ppl. In fact many will downplay it. That's a skill in itself - knowing you're audience and how to communicate/resonate with them. Simply bullying ppl intellectually, by being rude and abrasive, without actually trying to inform/satisfy their curiosity (talking TO someone as opposed to talking WITH them) is, at best, self indulgent.
      Dude needs to wake tf to his character defects, and stop leaning/building on his media persona. Or just read the comments lol.
      I feel like it started with all his appearances on Colbert, blowing smoke up Neil's arse to play the ignoramus, so he can get in depth answers.
      Neil loves telling ppl shit he knows, like any good teacher. But what he loves more than that, is arguing/shutting down ppl who have half baked ideas/opinions about things, which is NOT something a good teacher does. A good teachers walks ppl through their idea, with patience, and illustrates just how and why it's (probably) wrong. Doesn't just patronise them, full of condescension and contemptuous arrogance.
      He could've indulged Js ideas/thoughts/questions and actually had a constructive conversation, instead of the destructive monologue that was.
      Apologies for the rant. That's ALL my thoughts on it lol.
      End.

      @@bvdek I agree with everything you’ve said. As an example, my bf is one of the smartest people I know, and he knows it. His brain and confidence is what attracted me to him in the first place to even pursue a relationship with him. However, the thing that stole my heart was his extreme emotional intelligence toward other people. Sometimes he can get frustrated with people who aren’t on his level, but he always calms himself down and realizes his position and potential to help.
      I don’t know when this podcast actually aired but I’ve seen much better behavior from Neil in other interviews lately. I think he’s learning how to be more empathetic which is exactly what we all want to see. And I’ve seen him admit his faults in other interviews as well which his always a great quality. I think Neil has the potential to positively influence people on big scales and I hope he continues to fine tune his empathy.
      As someone whose emotional intelligence is perhaps her best quality, I always remind my boyfriend that his academic intelligence comes with responsibility; and he definitely rises to the challenge.
