I’m in college but I’ve been thinking of you high school students- when the pandemic is over you guys should have a cute backyard dance with twinkle lights and music and wear your prom clothes and go out to dinner and do everything you would have done but it will be less lame because it won’t be school sanctioned lmao

Prom Night, 1978
He didn't want to go to prom at all but it was important to her. He looked at himself in the mirror. "I look... Fine I guess" he thought to himself. He headed out the door to his car and drove to her house. He honked to horn to signal that he was there and she excitedly ran out the door and to his car. "Hey! Are you ready for the best night of our lives?" She asked with a huge grin on her face. "I suppose" he laughed "You look amazing by the way". She blushed. "Thanks, you look amazing too".
The two finally arrived at their high school gym. The air smelled of cheap cologne and cigarette smoke and everyone was on the dance floor. "C'mon let's go dance" she said before grabbing his hand and dragging him to the dance floor.
After dancing for what seemed like an eternity, the two sat down and had a glass of punch. "Are you having a good time?" He asked, looking down and swirling his punch. "I am actually, thank you for taking me, I know you didn't want to come" she responded. "It's no problem really, to tell you the truth I'm having a pretty good time too." He smiled. Just then the chill beat of the BeeGees' "How Deep is Your Love" echoed through the gymnasium. "Oh my God I love this song, c'mon we have to get back out there!" She stood up expectantly. "I, uh, actually don't know how to slow dance so I think I'll just lay low for now" he stared at his punch glass again. "It'll be fine, I'll teach you" she smiled and took his hand.
Before he knew it he had his hand on her waist and the two were swaying slowly to the beat of the music. "See, it's not so hard" she joked before laying her head on his shoulder.
He thought about earlier and how he hadn't even wanted to go to prom in the first place. He was glad he ended up coming. He wouldn't trade this moment for anything in the world.
