My Father died this May. He had a big influence in my taste of music, politics, and the way i see the world today. We played that song at his burial at sea... the melody sounded loud over the smashing waves and the crying of the Seagulls, it was one of the most beautifull and sad things i experienced in my life, but i hardly believe that he would have loved it, because it united the two things he loved most in life: The open wide ocean and this beautifull music. I can not listen to this song without crying, though i love it because it reminds me so much on my father...
All his songs are really more than music ... they make me cry, they make me laugh, marvel & surprised. Every time i hear him playing, it is a new adventure. And it is also a secret ... I wonder where he buys those striped Shirts ...lol
His music sounds all the time like he is taking a bath in a candle light and sings the melody. You hear the breathing and it's like he is singing the melody. I love his music and it is a reason why I got a musician. Thanks to him and his musicians. Always a inspiration.
Piazzola y Metheny. VIVA METHENY, VUELVE A MÉXICO.
GREAT song. This "Antonia" must be (or have been) quite jewel of a lady. He laid a beautiful track for her with a multi-dimensional structure that takes you through sweet smooth vibes to a mid & up-tempo snappy groove. Pat Metheny never loses a beat in the process of delivering this polished gem.
A tender and beautiful melody, clearly inspired by someone dear. Love the accordion accompaniment, they could have easily used a synthesizer, but the effect and visuals wouldn't be the same.
A favorite of mine. Note that the guitar part (PM) is accompanied by accordion (David Blamires) and whistling by the late, great Mark Ledford. If you watch the video “We live here” where this performance was taken, you will find out David Blamires does not play the accordion and learned this part on the accordion just for this song. He is a versatile and highly sought after musician who can play multiple instruments and sing. The same was true of Mark Ledford.
It truly is! What's funny to me is that as I was hearing the accordian I was thinking how much more tango-like it would be with an authentic bandoneon, like Astor's! LOL
Mr. Metheny is peculiarly methodical in an approach to his interpretation of an original score by another artist -- and he does it much better than most with little feedback from the original composer, who's thrilled to his/her hip-joints PM even considered doing a rendition of it(!) Well, how would you feel if a million-selling world-renowned artist decided to invest his own effort into a song you'd spent blood, sweat, years and tears to create and get published...? ...with, hopefully, a modicum of success? Can you pronounce the word, 'jump' ...?
@PurplePlayer99 I know when he played this so many years ago in Atlanta, a lady went up to him after the song ended and they kissed. At he time we were told that was his girlfriend.
Quelle musique !!!!!
I remember back in the day reading in the NME or was it watching the BBC that this dinosaurs record with GTR was SHT. Well I love it that the dinosaurs are still going strong and the new romantics and punks are looking slightly ridiculous in their make up and safety pins.
i have the record thank god ! ( i don't believe in god but i love this record ! ) secret story ! maybe the best pat one ? still listen to it reguraly !

A friend I've know since age 1 died yesterday... and we shared a love for this tune. It's fitting on his passing. RIP Graham.

Con aires de Piazzolla
Absolute masterpiece/masterclass, harmonious, soulful, poetic, journey/odyssey of a song!

Great instrumentation on this song-I love the whistled theme.
Pat make me go to Eter.
Pure art, candy for my ears.
Food for my soul.

While "Spring ain't here!" is my favorite PM song, this is
a close second. Thank you.

I just love this tune! Reminds me of walking along , alone past a fall burst of tree color on a winding lonely country road in Wisconsin.

@Nagao21 -Yes from 3.14 we get to groove from deep inside with life.
*RIP Mark Ledford (guy doing the "whistling" in this song) and Lyle Mays* (I think Gil Goldstein did keyboards on this particular concert)
