Nate, you’re a lifesaver. Your videos have gotten me to fall back in love with the piano. I invested in a decent keyboard a few years back (Yamaha E463), but I stopped playing because the learning process became so frustrating and confusing. I was struggling to understand music theory, and the person teaching me didn’t even know how to play piano lol (but he’s an INCREDIBLE guitarist. ridiculously good). To make matters worse, all of the tutorials I found online were either really complicated or mainly focused on teaching you to play the melody. Recently I started going through my like 107th Beatles phase, and I got this overwhelming desire to learn Strawberry Fields Forever. Unfortunately, all of the tutorials I found gave me the same problems that I had in the past (too complex or emphasis on the melody). That is until I found your tutorial. At first, I didn’t know what chords were, so I just copied down all of the notes you were pressing in unison as fractions, with the right-hand notes in the numerator and the left-hand notes in the denominator lol. But your video helped me learn how to play Strawberry Fields Forever in about 2 weeks. Mind you, the only other song I knew before this was Me and the Devil Blues by Robert Johnson, which is only a combination of 3 chords. After watching your video several times I ended up understanding chords. Now I’m learning Moonage Daydream (from your tutorial)! Except this time I don’t have to sit and go frame by frame writing every note combination lol. Now I can just write the chords down. Anyways, thank you so much. You’re truly incredible! You deserve way more subscribers, seriously. After Moonage Daydream I’m gonna move on to I Am the Walrus :) P.S. Can you pleaaaaaaase (pretty please) do ‘It Ain’t Easy’ from The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars? Thanks!
@@Quinn48272 You just made my day, this makes me so happy to hear. If you haven’t, check out my general lesson videos on triads and 7th chords to really solidify that chords foundation. Stay in touch - exciting times ahead!
Another superb tutorial Nate, you really go the extra mile with those details like implying the strings and harp. And knowing the right inversions are so important for delicate styles like this. What a great song, very dreamy. Thanks again!
Hi Nate, glad I found your channel ❤ you are a great teacher. Please could you prepare more Carpenters songs tutorials? For example “We’ve only just begun”, which is hard to find online.
Awesome! I think I will likely do more in the future. There are two others I've done, in case you didn't see them yet: th-cam.com/video/s7YJf-zDWng/w-d-xo.htmlsi=CxqaLrHxOHT7UYCs th-cam.com/video/t9Mla0ywDeg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=OyWNHIXfrg9QM1vi
I love your lessons they're super comprehensible! I hope one of these days you tackle some of billy Preston's parts with the Beatles! Don't let me down, get back the sorts!
I just learned to play and sing “Close to you” thanks to a previous tutorial you made! It’s the second song I’ve learned off your channel, you make it very easy to learn. Do you think you could do “Going To A Town” by Rufus Wainwright? I think it would be right up your alley and I’d love to learn it from you!
Great work Nate. Bill Withers Lovely Day. Some funky epiano sounds would be wonderful. It would be nice to hear some more diverse uses of sounds from digital pianos, which is what i presume most of your subscribers have. All those wonderful soul, R&B and funk tunes from 60s through to 80s.
I’ve recent found your channel and I love your tutorials! You’re truly the best and most helpful I’ve found. :) Could you cover birds of a feather by Billie Eilish?
This is another great tutorial Nate! Have you heard of the band Bread? I’d like to request one of their songs. ‘If’ and ‘Everything I own’ are some of their finest songs in my opinion.
Could you do this in a key which would be suitable for a male voice? I’ve found c major is good with this song for a male voice as E4 is then the highest note. But a bit lower might be better. Nice tutorial btw.
Indeed this is pretty high, which is why I sang down an octave which isnt ideal. I don't think I'll make a whole new video for a different key, but you could try learning it from this chart: tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/tab/carpenters/yesterday-once-more-chords-755029 You can use the transpose buttons on the floating menu bar to put it in any key you want. Good luck!
