    If we really want to bring back support for Sg football then it should be through greater investment into existing spl sides, creating more youth cups/competitions (Merlion cup is a good start) or possibly (radical idea here) integrating NFL clubs as a sort of 'feeder team' for spl teams, eg. balestier khalsa absorb balestier united RC and use them as a sort of place to put under 15,16 or 17 youth players and see if they're quality is really better as Rhyan Stewart says. By interacting with the semi professional league, the player pool gets larger and improves community interaction so we have more potential star players that can enter singapores top flight easier (Shawal Anuar is one player that comes to mind) and we essentially create a better pathway for younger players to enter Singapore's top flight. Make the NFL seem like a viable way to grind for a spot on a team in the top flight instead of leaving it as a useless semi-professional league that has so much potential.

    Lionsxii did spark national interest for football again. Like it or not, singapore was united during the short-term stint in MSL. The people were all looking forward to weekend match especially if the team was playing home at Jalan besar. School kids & teens were all discussing & criticising the pre-match & post-match so-called analysis. Frankly, those atmosphere are rarely seen nowadays..

Clearly he loves the Lilywhites. Come on You Spurs!

    Hi guys,. This is lingesh here...I think about joining the Malaysian league is not viable since, if I am not wrong it's a FIFA requirement for qualifications and to receive aid/assistance; that you have to have your own domestic League.....

  • @lingeshkumar1230
    @lingeshkumar1230 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    And yes Neil with regards to your template....if you actually googled the number of stadiums in sg, you will be surprised by the number.... A new one in ponggol is coming up. But, I agree most need upgrading and then we can actually have clubs permanently based in these stadiums and have local teams... I believe it is about the money in the end... For the local clubs FAS have to pump money (save LCS) unless they are privately owned .... Neil would you think a community ownership will work in sg ( like AFC Wimbledon, Grays Athletic)... Also in the alternative, do you think a consilium formed for taking ownership of one club is variable (like crystal palace) since it's hard to get one sole owner, as the amount to be invested is put off?

    • @MuhammadRidwan-yz6sb
      @MuhammadRidwan-yz6sb ปีที่แล้ว

      agree on the stadiums, old Jurong stadium is the best example , the stadium is rotting away with no major upgrade
      with proper major upgrade old Jurong we have at least proper football only stadium
      why not how follow the Bundesliga 50+1 rule..

      @@MuhammadRidwan-yz6sb if Singapore clubs want to roll out some hybrid of the 50+1 rule, they will need to do very good sales pitch to convince potential investors/fans to invest the moneys into the club?

    Why not maybe combine the Malaysian and Singaporean leagues? That way it'll improve both country's footballing standards and rekindling old rivalries that'll add extra interest to the footballing fans of both countries

    • @Luqman1324

      its workable, but it will be hard to manage it...esp talking abt revenue and money things. as you know currency differences plays a huge role. other than that, im not lowering sg teams, but malaysian teams playing quite high intensity with the help of such a great import players. if sg team can handle these intense games esp playing team like Kedah, JDT and selangor that plays a great level of football, then its fine. Its a great idea if win-win situation came out of it. But tbh, it does only help on SG side, while for MY side, they only stay on their level hoping that they can either chase Jdt or they hope on the fall of JDT era.

      Absolutely no. You think we will allow many small country clubs to join our league?😂 No, I don't see any benefits for Malaysia, to let that idea become true. I just saw the benefits are just go to Singapore only, if ur idea become true. If Singapore really want to join our league, we just allow 1 team only from Singapore to join our league. But, it will happen if Singapore give another agreement to make Malaysia get many benefits if Singapore join Malaysian league back.
      For me, if Singapore wants to join Malaysia league, this is my order to Singapore if Singapore wanna join our league.
      1) All Singapore sponsor need to sponsor all Malaysian club too.
      2) Singapore will not get a same prize as Malaysian clubs will get if Singapore become a champion of Malaysian league. Singapore team will get much lower prize than Malaysian clubs will get.
      3) Singapore need to allow all Malaysian clubs u-23 to join Singapore Premier League.
      4) Every Singapore clubs in Singapore league need to take 3 Malaysian players u-19.
      5) Singapore only will participate in Malaysia Super League senior. Singapore can't send their junior teams to join our junior league.
      But, if Singapore agree about this agreement, I still do not sure...if my idea are enough to give benefits for Malaysia.🤔

    Dpmm is not employing any sg players... but they are contributing financially to Spl... this money could be used to help youth development... the main problem is we need more local clubs

  • @chengweichoong88
    @chengweichoong88 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes! We should have a home and away to promote rivalries in each constituency. But it is still too early to have local spl matches stage at the sports hub. If we can't fill the big stadium, the atmosphere will not be so good. You will hear more frogs singing than from shouting from the fans. Remember, only good atmosphere will strive the players. Jalan besar will be the obvious choice for any finals.

  • @davidlim7440

    Another big problem we have is the lack of football stars that are adored by the fans. Previously, we had of course Fandi and Sundram. But even players like Rafi Ali, Kadir Yahaya, Hasnim Haron and Steven Tan has solid fan bases that followed them at S-League club level. But how they did they get the fan base in the first place? It’s precisely because they play in the M-League and Malaysia cup.
    You can argue that by playing in the M-League, the S-League clubs actually attracted more fans. I remember Jurong stadium is always full. Even Gombak United had a good following last time.
    Another added advantage is that the local players are motivated to do well for their clubs, so that they can join the national team and play in the M-League.
    Let’s be realistic. We have tried for 30 years to generate interest in the S League and failed terribly. The national team is getting worse by the year.
    “Develop your national league and you get a better national team”. This statement is a truism which we have held on for 30 years. Anyone who keeps harping on this statement does not care about Singapore football.

    As a Malaysian, I would say Asean Super League wont work, it would clash with domestic league schedule and AFC schedule. Beside that, what's the point for a club like JDT, Selangor, Terengganu to play lower standard club around Asean when they can play top Asian club's in ACL and AFC Cup? And now AFC has Conference League, so why need to bother with Asean Super League?

    • @Gaddafied23
      @Gaddafied23 ปีที่แล้ว

      My thoughts exactly. AFC and Conference League should already be incentive enough? (not sure how many clubs can qualify). It's an interesting idea maybe in a knockoff format which is shorter..

    1) There was a time when we were thinking of having football games at the floating platform. It would never have worked out (and will not work out for its replacement, the NS square) just because of the trouble (i.e. Cost). But can you imagine if it did? Good central venue; not too oversized capacity; potential footfall capture. If not for the league, then at least for national team matches.
    2) Re: DPMM, I was there at the match against BK at JBS (BK fan here). There were definitely more than 7 fans. While I would rather have more local teams just like everyone else, I'd rather have DPMM than Young Lions. I'd rather have clubs (and more clubs) develop youth internally and youth leagues than having them "develop" in the main league. DPMM I can accept as a warm body to have more competitive games.

    Neil, I disagree with you on the comment of a combined team like Lions12 just taking fans away from the S-League teams.
    A combined team playing in the M-League has all the potential of drawing back fans from all over Singapore and filling up the National Stadium.
    Let’s stop the insanity of doing things the same mould and expecting different results. Joining the M-League is not about nostalgia and going back to to the past. It is about generating excitement in SG football and bringing in more fans.

    • @SailorFanTalk
      @SailorFanTalk ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a quick fix that will generate a lot of fanfare, and bring the fans in. But the talent pool then shrinks. You basically only need 25 (max) Singaporeans to form a squad to compete in the MSL.
      What happens to other hopeful Singaporeans? Who will they play against? They will be playing against sub-standard footballers and will find their development very difficult.
      What is far better is to have 3 or 4 well-financed clubs in the SPL. It's not happening yet, but it will happen. There are already signs. LCS is the obvious example, but Geylang now are exploring links with the City Group - let's see where that takes us.

      You think...we are stupid to give your small country to join our league again?😂 And then, you think ur idea to bring SPL clubs to join Malaysia Super League will happen?😂😂 No, it will not happen. As a Malaysian, I don't see any benefits we can get if Singapore clubs join our league. It's just give benefits to Singapore football only. We already saw...Singapore football grow so good, when they join our league, and Singapore football quality level become fall down so badly after out from Malaysian league. And we realize, Singapore in their prime football era, only when Singapore joins Malaysia league. So, when we saw our football right now in top level, and Singapore football in low level. Do you think we will allow Singapore clubs to join our league? Absolutely no. We will not allow Singapore to join. I don't see any benefits we can get from that. It's just benefits for Singapore football to grown up so fast.

    SEA Games 2023 - Singapore (0) vs Malaysia (7). And Malaysia was unlucky not to have a few more goals before the final whistle blew. So, how much has Singapore football improved in the years out of the Malaysia Super League? As always, the results speaks for itself! Despite all the tinkering that FAS has done to improve Singapore football over 30 years, well, at 7-0, Singaporeans should ask for their money back from the FAS. I mean it is a joke for Singapore to lose 7-0 to Malaysia after 30 years of the Singapore league. What happened to all the improvement to Singapore football that was supposed to be?
