The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. The Gun and the Gunslinging. As told by the Gun Trainer.

- A behind the scenes look at gun trainer Joey Dillon working with actor Tim Blake Nelson and the Coens to make "Buster Scruggs" a gunslinger's gunslinger! Buster used a Colt "Single Action Army," the "Peacemaker," in .45 cal. 5.5 inch barrel. Bare steel. Wood Grips. The Hero gun was a Taylor's and Co. and the backup (also used for the fast draw cantina scene when I doubled him) was a Cimarron.
-Jesus existed. Even atheists admit that. But was he crazy? Or is there something bigger for you out there if you were to look into it. I pray you do! God loves you and wants a relationship with you right now right as you are... Ok watch my video now.

Buster Scruggs needs to have a whole movie with the same actor.
He was great in O brother, where art thou
Couldn't agree more, seen a few clips and I'm a super fan. More a music fan than film but I'm definitely ordering the Blu ray😀👌☘️
Should be a made for TV series!🤠👍
It’d have to be a prequel
Truly
You're a damn good teacher!!!! The performance by Tim Blake Nelson was outstanding 😀
You did good. great movie. Buster was very believable. When he shot the bartender from around his back, and sunshine showing through the hole in the bartender was one of my favorite seens in the entire movie. Really good stuff. Never will forget the wounded cowboy crawling on the floor of the saloon towards the door and Buster saying, "here, let me get that for you". Priceless.
WOW! All this and NO Cameraman was 'Shot and Killed' on this set.
Buster Scruggs prequel!!!
This was awesome to watch man! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 love seeing your work in films and TV.
Thanks Loop!!
That "traditional 50s classic gunfighter pose", heal rocked back, somehow looked familiar the moment I saw it in the movie. Thanks so much for the close-ups and discussion about it.
No prob! Happy to share
I thought the whole movie was fantastic. I especially liked the scene in the saloon. where Buster Scruggs refuses to play the dead man's hand. aces and eights, and because of the saloon's rules he gives up his pistol and the two senorita pistols. leaving him forced to do what I consider, the greatest gunslinger trick I have ever seen in a western. where he kicks the plank on the table. causing his opponent to shoot himself in the head three times. IT WAS TOTALLY AWESOME!!!!
Tim Blake Nelson is just an incredible actor.
I would love to see a Behind-The-Scenes video of this saloon scene.
@@johannesnoneoftheabove9957 That would be interesting.
One of the best western films I have ever seen. Great respect for your talent as well. Thanks for the video.
I just watched him in Old Henry. Another outstanding performance. A very realitic gunfight.
What a great film! Loved Tim Blake Nelson in everything I’ve seen him in, and all the actors in this film were great. Well done Cohen Brothers and all the crew.
I was raised around guns but unfortunately I'm not allowed to own one at this time but I really enjoyed the video and loved the short movie. I'd love to see a full movie of buster scruggs. Nothing better than a Western.
Mdy I ask why?
@@NoosaHeads why can't I own a gun? Felony assault with a deadly weapon
This movie was nothing less than fantastic! Would love to see more of this bloke Buster in the future; this behind-the-scenes look was most interesting, and an unexpected bonus. Thank you so much for this, in its entirety, mate. Truly, you lads are geniuses!! Cheers!
Thanks for the compliments! I only did a small part but was very blessed to do it!
@@FilmArmorerJoeyDillon Humble as ever. You are just amazing, Joey!
One of my favorite movies! The gun work was amazing! So much fun to watch and your pupil did a fantastic job! That slap of the holster was hilarious and so in character. It all had to be the experience of a lifetime.
It was a great experience for sure.
Just shows how much goes into these things to make the finished scenes so polished and stylish (and in this instance humorous, in a black comic way).
Very cool. I think you can rightly be proud to have been associated with the making of that movie. Good on you.
Very interesting getting the inside story on this!
Most wouldn't even ponder this (pad'ner), but I find "behind the scenes" stuff like this fascinating. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Cool, thanks.. One of my favorite movies.
What a thrill to have had the opportunity to work on this film.
it was!
*GREAT Video!* For a moment, I was like "Awwwhh Hell nahh, he did NOT strip original Colt's for this!" Glad to know it was modern replicas.
Love the song "The Kid" Sings after he kills Buster. Thanks for sharing thoroughly enjoyed the movie. The Humor, Camera Work, Cheeky lines, mannerisms and gun play you helped put in the movie were all top notch. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya
You helped hone the skills of one of the most iconic and short lived 'bad asses' in cinema history....unrivaled originality....a truly beloved character....
I was blessed for sure to have been a part!
That Holster Tap fit the character,, good call. 🤠
"Buster Scruggs don't ever shot no on in the back." Opps.
You have a passion for what you do and are good at it. Keep on doing what you do.
I appreciate the encouragement
Joey has always been an amazing performer! I got the privilege of working with him for years in his early Wild West Show days. He’s just a great person in general and a man of God.
What's up amigo! Appreciate ya!
Anytime. You have always been Amazing! It was a God send to have shared memories with you. Keep up the good work!

Absolutely awesome! 👍👍👍. You did a fantastic job.
Make the movie the life and times of Buster's scruggs Hey, how about a TV series? If not the movie, I don't care which but more Please give us more of a Buster. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow this is an awesome video, thank you for sharing your experience. It must have been a blast working on that set
It was!
These insights are always appreciated. I'm always impressed by the little details and effort put into good movies like this.
Bravo! Excellently presented and very educational! Thanks for sharing and the best of luck! Ask Buster what happened to Dan, his transportation! LOL
Thanks! haha!
Thanks for sharing your unique perspective. I wish they would've kept the actor's tricks in for the finger removal part!
Me too!
Thanks so much for sharing this with us! Reminds me of a Murdering Bugs Bunny! Would love to see a more of Buster. And you got a great Wanted poster out of it!
Thanks! Yea, I have a great poster haha!
The great gun hand Thell Reed was a local boy in Southern Calif. In his family BBQ restaurant was the mounted Alaskan bear he shot as a kid. He was so good with his guns, and he made killer sandwiches as well.
Buster could cheat death getting out of the card game. and win death in the fast draw, but when it's your time, and the death shooter comes riding up all in black with music,, your time has come. 🤠💥
Buster got shot as he was so quick, he had just got use to being so good so slowed down a bit.
@@turokforever007 Buster took up the DEAD MANS HAND Aces and eight's,, so he sed he did not want to play those cards, the man tried to kill him because he saw the cards, but he got out of it,, the BLACK RIDER was Death,, because when it's your time to go you can't get out of it. 🤠💥
No one could beat Willie Watson either with a gun or a vocal chord
Funfact... I tried to get my 3 male co-workers to watch the film; and they poo-poo'd the film because of the initial singing... I was like WTF is wrong with you people?
yea wow! they need to get cultured haha...
TBN's work in this flick is some of his best. I can watch those first few scenes of his once a day and still crack the hell up. Killing Ole Surly Joe with the table.... hilarious!!reminded me of Jennifer Gray's kicks to Principle Rooney's face..... LMAO! Just pure magic!
Buster Skrugg was hilarious! I can't get enough of the clips.
Well, that's not good 😅😅😅 Too funny
Interesting and entertaining.
Fabulous!!…great story!👏🏻⚔️👏🏻
I agree, a full movie.
Appreciate your witness for Jesus!
thanks!
This was so thoroughly enjoyable!! Thank you for sharing
Thanks! Appreciate that!
The stuff that goes on the cutting room floor is tough.
that is so cool sir! A job well done! Amazing how he was doing the one movie while learning all the stuff you taught him for the next movie. That’s a lot of switchin back and forth!
Just discovered this channel. Incredibly interesting! Thanks so much.
Brilliant movie,
Somebody that knows what they are talking about.. Unlike that Baldwin mess.. Buster Scruggs is a favorite of mine....Thanks for that..
Yeah man.
Baldwin did not pull the trigger lol
Blue screen, a handful of dollars.
Baldwin held the trigger down while fanning the hammer.
See the ballistics testimony.
Baldwin saved money by not shooting at a mirror or blue screen.
The first part is that which I most wanted to see. Thanks for making and thanks for sharing. 🇿🇦👍
I must have watched this movie a 100 times. I love it!
Rotten shame they killed off this character would have like to
have seen more of him.
They should make a film about him up to that point. Surely he had done a lot of things in times gone by to earn his reputation
That's cool! I hope you can do some instructional videos on gun spinning.
I will definitely upload some when I can!
I dropped mine on the kitchen floor and broke the handle. Yes, I'd also appreciate your professional training. Great work on Buster. Might be my all time favorite.
Love the film.
INteresting note: At 12:58 you see a shot of the actors feet in the gunslinger position. The point is that the spurs are upside down and his boots are walking boots. LOL
So, the spurs being upside down are in error?
@@livingadreamlife1428 Yep, the actors boots are also not right for it. The boots should have 1 1/2 riding heels. Those heels stick out about 1/4 past the back of the boot. Also, the spurs are not on tight enough. They shouldnt dangle like thaThis is to support the horseshoe of the spur. The spur shank should curve upward and the little nub goes down to keep the rowel from touching the ground.
Awesome work. I’m always singing those catchy tunes , to myself of course.
Amazing. I have just started shooting from the holster.
Poor Ol’ Buster … never got his whisky.
Great character.
Joey, first thing , great video! Love that movie so it was cool to see the work you did on it. It's been many years since we have seen each other but just wanted to say congratulations on all your success and wish you more to come. Crazy to think back when we were kids growing up in Don Pedro days lol. Anyways won't take up any more of your time , hope we run in to each other again one of these days buddy. Keep having fun and doin great work Joe. 👍
Mike!!! What's up man! So great to hear from ya! Yea man would love to run into ya at some point. my website is in the description. It has a way to email me. Let me know what you've been up to!
Thank you. Awesome.
Yup!
Should be a made for TV series!🤠👍
Great video. Awesome story
The gun tap after the shooting reminded me of how I needed to pull out into traffic with my 20 year old pickup truck and burned some tire rubber but made it just fine and afterwards, tapped the dashboard. A pickup truck tap. It says, thanks, good job. Its a guy thing.
haha yup.
Great video... Thanks
Glenn Ford was reported to be the fastest with a gun on set. Audey Murphey kept a Colt 1911 handy on set.
Apparently GF could draw and fire in 0.4 seconds.
hey Joey. i was the guy at cowboy days, that every year would tell you are great with 2 guns ,but ne t year i want to see three guns . glad you are doing well. brad
haha! what’s up Brad! still no on three guns hahaha
This was fascinating, Joey!
Well thanks! Happy to share.
Great video, great work on set and in this video, so cool to learn all this, thank you!
It funny that he got down to details like the cylinder screw and ejector, when a guy in the Cantina had a modern company stamped on his holster and Buster is playing a Recording King guitar.
ohhhhh haha you that sort of person that notices those things because I definitely had not the slightest clue!😅 and me reading your comments does not disappoint me or ruin it for me in any way. Nonetheless great observation!
True! I get caught up in the details sometimes too much, when compared to the style of the film, and the props that are outside of my control. It really wasn't meant to be a realistic period piece. I just love the early style colts I guess...
I'd love to know how to spin a SAA. They are so heavy, I don't know how they do it. The movies make it look so simple.
Why are there no copies of this film for perches or rent
The Coen brothers had an absolutely awesome character in Buster, but the boneheads offed him! Ugh!
Thanks1
Love your videos... Thanks! 😎
As a gun man could you explain why on earth Baldwin's movie would have live ammunition on the set?
It was a set up to have an excuse to take all ur guns away
Because someone was really, really careless. There should NEVER be live ammunition on a movie set unless it's necessary for a particular scene, and then each live round should be accounted for before and after filming.
I do not believe it was on purpose or recognized.
Hey Joey ! Question please : These new generation of replica airpistols are amazing. Some are just down right (almost) exact copies to their authentic counterparts, especially the Colt SAAs. Do you ever substitute an airgun for a real steel blank shooter ? Thanks !
I’ve seen them and they’re pretty great! I’ve handled a couple. I’ve not substituted any for the real thing yet but it could work if need be!
All this gun training you give him
Worked fantastic in old Henry
Also
Well done
I wished I was called in on Old Henry! Tim is awesome.
The guy look like a real life, bugs, bunny
Thank you- wish I could have worked on aCohen Bros/ Ramie film
Tim Blake Nelson should speak in Buster Scruggs’ voice all the time, or his character from Oh Brother, Where Art Thou. Easier to listen to. 😂
The guy speaking here is his gun handling trainer for the movie. You should change your name to clownshoe jones so people can know what to expect from your comments 🤡🛼
Jim Varney Two
This is important! Whatever happened to Dan? LOL
I feel Buster would have kept track of his wins but not with crude notches in the pistol handles but with tiny silver tacks lol
You oughta set yourself up in the undertaking business
Buster Struggs was excellent. The rest weren’t worth a crap. Should’ve stayed home or left as soon as Buster was done.
I only worked the Buster segment.
People who go nuts over period minutia like set screws vs pins in a pistol always amazed me. Seems they definitely need more important things in their lives. My buddy was like that with cars. If he saw a car in a movie a year before it was made, having the wrong trim etc. he would get up and leave.
Taylor’s/Cimmarons are nothing but Ubertis or Chiappas depending on when they were bought, all Italian reproductions.
You're correct, however both Taylor's and Cimmaron do a lot more QC on the guns they sell than their Italian origins. Also, while not 100% in either direction, Taylor's tends to deal more in Uberti's and Cimmaron tends to be more Piettas. Most of my cowboy guns are Ubertis from Taylors although I think one of my rifles ('66 Henry) came from Cimmaron.
👍
Why did Buster Scruggs have to die ? .
....to rob humanity of a brilliant shooting star....*sigh!
Same costume as 1964 Lemonade Joe.😊
haha! Lemon Joe!
Ya and Buster scruggs was the only good one.we wanted a whole movie with him and his horse.....the rest sucked
@@HblockFlightServices Didn't hit nothin' important...
luv to know where to get a shoulder rig like that!
Real cool video. Thank you for sharing. Willie has a very similar look to Michael Biehne's Johnny Ringo.
Fantastic, fun, and informative! Thanks so much for sharing!
My pleasure.
i never stop watching buster scruggs and Old henry Tim blake Nelson snuck up on us now his the new western guy
In Ozstraya have you seen buster scruggs Yeah good hey & henry The old Gold miner in the beutiful valley after ambushed It went straight thru didnt hit anything important was a sigh of relief
the man with no legs & arms show haunts me that how vulnerable we can be . Hey Kudos to all the other suport actors outlaws etc well done real effective looks
This was a grand story to hear! They couldn't have picked a better person to give gun spinning trick lessons than you.
Well thanks! Appreciate that.
@@FilmArmorerJoeyDillon no problem.
You can't find this movie anywhere. Not even the libraries in Ohio have it.
