Tim Blake Nelson Breaks Down His Most Iconic Characters | GQ - บันเทิง
I am legitimately shocked that he doesn’t have a southern accent.
Brandon Gregory me 2
As a southerner... he is one of the few actors that can fool me.
@@robhand7205 Same. He did a really good southern accent.
Paul Pflaum I have a Minnesota accent? Hmm, I never would have known!
Paul Pflaum they are just complimenting a good actor. Relax
There needs to be a full length film of Buster Scruggs. I love his characters.
that was some funny stuff
fully agree, was a big disappointment when I realized the movie wouldnt surround his character.... not that I didnt eventually love the movie.
That's why I came here too!
Oh my God, you said it all right ,The acting the dialog, the cinematography absolutely one of my all-time favorites. I can’t get enough please let there be more.
Scruggs was the most entertaining and profound character I’ve seen in 5 years
Who else came just to hear what he sounds like when he's not doing a character?
His brit accent in Watchmen is amazing
I also love the show
@@dipteshh southern accent, friend
@@ivemadeavowtoneverpullout9049 That's not a southern accent. The mayor of Tulsa has a southern accent. His is a Western country/cowboy accent.
Diptesh Mohanta Brit?
Buster Scruggs just makes me smile. I want a whole film of just him singin and slingin guns
This guy is unbelievable as BUSTER SCRUGGS. FUNNY FUNNY FUNNY OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
Thank you
Me too. I watched the whole movie and went back to rewatch Buster Skruggs, I could easily watch him sing and casually murder people all day.
God yes Buster is like a Texas Forest Gump. You just tend to just love his personality.
I watched the buster scruggs part more than 8 times now. That movie was truly a classic
Tim Blake Nelson is like the Harry Dean Stanton of our time - he makes every movie better just by being in it.
That's a really good comparison. I would add his name to the Roger Ebert quote “no movie featuring either Harry Dean Stanton or M. Emmet Walsh in a supporting role can be altogether bad.”
That’s a great comparison.
Phenomenal comparison
Wonderful comment!
Never thought about it that wat, but your right. RIP Harry Stanton.
"Oh Brother Where Art Thou" would not have been the film that it is without his role. He completes this film. Spectacular.
Word.
“I loved being in Holes.” - Tim Blake Nelson, 2019
who doesn't?
DOG HOLE
@@----5139 never been so excited about a dog hole til a saw that scene
Tim Blake Nelson is one of the most underrated actors. He absolutely disappears in roles. He was a God in the Ballad of Buster Scruggs as Buster Scruggs a.k.a. the San Saba Songbird. Quotes like, “Don't let my white duds and pleasant demeanor fool ya. I, too, have been known to violate the statutes of man... and not a few of the laws of the Almighty!” 😆
The character represented Nietzsche's concept of the "overman". I really loved how the Coen brothers portrayed that.
I wished they would had made a movie just on Buster Scruggs, like a prequel to the Ballad of Buster Scruggs. There is no doubt about how good of a hit it would be.
Best gunslinger ever. Ever.
Fantastic actor should be up there with cruise and hanks.
The West Texas Twit! 😂
He is absolutely fantastic in Watchmen. He’s fantastic in everything, but I love his character in Watchmen
Jeff Yeh I don’t think watchmen has ever really had a black and white type villain, they’re typically complicated and misunderstood
Snuffian Or any type of hero. There actually are no villains in the graphic novel, but 'comic book heroes' that are drawn to their logical conclusions. A 'villain' may perhaps viewed to be Adrian Veidt, but he was supposed to be an idealistic supernaturally intelligent hero saving billions of lives (maybe in his mind), by secretly sacrificing millions... Is he then a hero or a villain?
Too bad that show is awful.
Best show on TV right now.
Quality actor for a quality show
I stood next to Tim Blake Nelson on the #1 train in NYC for a few stops once. I looked at him. He looked at me. He could tell I knew who he was....which is the exact reason why I let the man be. Just nodded my head. He did the same. I really like this guy. Loaded with cool. So not full of himself. Very accomplished.
"Sir, it seems you're no better a judge of human being than you are a specimen of one." - my favorite comeback, use it all the time in office lol.
Yes, Tim, you do deserve a Grammy! 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?' is one of the greatest movies of the last 20 years!
Pls 4give if I'm wrong. Would the award be an Oscar not a Grammy? Or is there's an advocation 4 both?
@@crazyoldhippieladyinthebib7357 As he explains in the video the movie won a grammy for best soundtrack
if we made a list of people that were awarded a Grammy that didn't deserve a Grammy, Mr Nelson wouldn't be in the first 100. "In the jailhouse now fellers, neighborhood of B", is a Grammy winner right there.
@@crazyoldhippieladyinthebib7357 The Album of “O Brother” won album of the year that year
I´m surprised they only lipsync to the scene in the recording studio?! Well, i know George is, but the two others?
I'm such a fan of his in O Brother Where Art Thou, he's such an underrated actor.
i can quote that movie all day.

I cannot believe he doubted himself so heavily on his role, dude killed it, highlight of the movie

"What kind of roles do you play?"
"Doofuses, mostly."
That comment was actually very well written. Thank you.
The same can be said about actor the voices the chicken in Moana
That is a genius comment. 😆
Tim Blake Nelson is the Rhythm Guitarist of actors. He's not itching for a 5 minute solo, he knows the beat is what everyone will remember.
I remember his roles is every movie I've seen him in before I remember what the movies plot was half the time.
Hey, that's a really good analogy! (I'm a rhythm guitarist myself :-)
This makes no sense
Agreed. I respect a humble actor, although he is perfectly capable of being lead guitarist if he wants to.
So True.
@whatsinaname3034 you obviously don't understand music then.
He is so so alluring it's almost hypnotic just him sitting there he has such a timeless and severe but sweet quality to him.
*Undoubtedly, I love his character as Scruggs!!* ❤
Tim is such an underrated actor. I hope even more people learn of him through this video and Watchmen.
I know no one who does not know who Tim Blake Nelson is. And how talented. Calling him underrated in a misnomer.
he plays the dumbish, less smart characters so well it’s shocking to see how intelligent he actually is, amazing actor
Watch watchmen he is so good
Wasn't he a scientist in the MCU's Incredible Hulk?
He directed O, the teen Othello adaptation with Julia Stiles, so obviously not a dummy.
It's the great irony in acting that it takes great intelligence to play dumb.
@Big Black Willy It's funny because he plays a super intelligent character like that one just as well as his dumb characters lol
He's so ridiculously humble to the point of kind of almost being self deprecating. He could absolutely serve himself more justice by speaking more to his talents. He's absolutely a talented man and doesn't need to be so cautious and speak below his abilities. He's much more talented than he'll say
He's likely so committed to his craft because he doesn't just assume he'll ace it, so he tries twice as hard.
Tim Nelson, in my honest opinion, is one of the greatest actors of my generation.
Joel Coen knowing that he was the best Delmar that they were going to be able to find is actually so great
Ilan Oresky I agree
Tim your wrong. You are a selling point for me and many others in any movie.
after i watched his latest movie and he died, i turned it off.
@@HOTD108_ i play movies on loop on my computer when i go to sleep lol.. but you realize the movie was of short stories. i shut it off 1st short story ending.. you must not have seen the movie??!?!

@@LastbutNotFirst What movie? Buster Scruggs?
I second this, the minute I recognized him in Watchmen I knew it was going to be good
He's so modest. He has been a memorable component of films for years. Please cast this man in more things!
I'm friends with his son and hes such wonderful person in real life as well.
Right...
That’s dope
BRO JON WTF IS THIS
@@elijahnelson8139 I told you about this
I would say O Brother Where Art Thou is one of the greatest movies of all time, to this day if I see it I have to watch it. It’s just amazing. The first time I saw it I was probably 10 too, each rewatch is a treasure to discover.
Tim Blake is an incredibly talented and intelligent actor. His range and ability to disappear into a character is truly impressive. What sets him apart, however, is his humility. Despite his obvious gifts, he remains humble and grounded. It is a surprise to find such a skilled actor who is also so down-to-earth. Tim is one of the best character actors to have ever existed, and it is a pleasure to watch him on screen. He is a true master of his craft.
Even when he doesn't have a Southern accent, I still hear his southern accent. Lol
Erica Camacho Literally me the whole time I watched this
( after poking around) He grew up in Oklahoma. Which I guess would make it a Midwest accent?
That's not a southern accent more like country accent.
Kelly Alves no it’s not. Oklahoma is definitely a southern accent. Much closer to a Texas accent than a Midwest accent. He definitely has a bit of a drawl.
@@bossHogOG I would argue that Oklahoma has a unique fusion of the southern and midwest accents. I grew up in Tulsa though so I'm not as accustomed to the accent of the southern portion.

SonOfAKing see that’s why I think he’s amazing. He blends into the movie and u don’t even notice him as Tim. U see him as the character in the movie. It’s the opposite of the Jennifer Lawrence effect I think. Every time I see her in a movie I just see, “Jennifer Lawrence playing ________”
To this day my sisters and I can’t go to a Chinese Buffet and eat a teriyaki chicken on a stick without one of us saying “gopher Everett??”

First of all, I'm so glad that GQ gave this man a platform; he is such a criminally unsung actor. That being said, did anyone else find him explaining how he was attached to 3 _Incredible Hulk_ films a little bit heartbreaking, in retrospect? ☹
Shoulda casted Mark Ruffalo.
How so?
It's coming, finally!
“Friend,you’re folding money’s come unstowed”
Unanimous Ignoramus he’s got so many quotable lines in that movie. Without him it wouldn’t have been half as good.
@Boss Hog I am also a huge fan of The Dukes Of Hazzard
I love actors like him. Low profile amazing acting unique roles big or small they are entertaining not just celebrity status but real acting
This is the first time I've ever seen him interviewed. As others have said, I am amazed to hear him speak in a 'normal' voice!
His southern accent was so perfect (even while singing) that it made his face look like he was born and raised in the South!
Buster Scruggs is a move I can watch a 1000 times and love it and be entertained the whole time!
Wild movie
Buster Scruggs is mesmerizing. Don't let him fade away.
His Buster Scruggs is a MASTERPIECE !!!
Just watched him in Old Henry. This is what film making is about. Fantastically acted by the whole cast. Great story line. A definite must watch.
Keep your head down, you'll be fine.
Stumbled across it last week - what a gem! This is my new favourite movie role of his!!
Everybody sleeping on that one. Really gives you hope for the newer generation of westerns . Loving Stephen Dorff in his older years.
I could listen to him reflect on "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" for an hour. I want to know everything about his time working on that film
Tim Blake Nelson is a truly talented person. ❤
I remember first watching this man in Holes as "Dr. Pendanski". He's never disappointed and Watchmen is further proof of that. Tim Blake Nelson is a treasure, a gifted actor and overall magnificent storyteller. Good on ya Looking Glass.
His rendition of "In the Jailhouse now" was really good in my opinion... especially being that he is an actor, not a musician, songwriter, or singer.
This is actually the first interview I have seen with him, and his manner of speech isn't anything like I imagined, obviously because I was prejudiced in my expectations because of his O' Brother role. He did that Southern drawl so perfectly, and I should be a decent judge of it considering I have always lived here in Arkansas.
His character in this Watchmen series, I just love him in it man, might have been my favorite character in the series.
Buster Scruggs is a wildly underrated film
His role in Holes left a huge impact on me when I saw it as a kid. He's a delight and an iconic character actor.
We were going to get a Hulk trilogy with him playing The Leader... Dreams crushed 💔

Kareem Harper His version of in the Jailhouse is the one I have on repeat.
He is correct.
His humbleness, love and concern for others makes him a great human being who just happens to be a great actor!
How astoundingly humble can one person be? Wow.
For someone so accomplished and respected in the industry his humility is remarkable. This is an actor's actor.
Not even a whole season in, and my man Looking Glass is already iconic to me. He's the best part of watchmen
Malcolm.X.Machina the episode all about his back story is my favourite so far

Tim is brilliant in all of his films. I've just never really heard him discuss his career. Now I understand why he has been so brilliant in all of his roles. He gets it!
I think he’d make a great riddler
Jim Carrey was great though.
@@jacquobangalter2677 No, he wasn't but that's probably down to Schumacher more than Carrey.
@@jacquobangalter2677 he fit great in that movie with the tone they were going for. For the more modern style I think tim would be great.
I think had they continued with affleck since hes an older batman, nelson wouldve worked as an older riddler. That being said, i think paul dano will do an excellent job.
He is such a great actor and hearing all the self doubt makes me sad.
Alexandra Calzada - Yes, same! He’s so needlessly insecure it’s heartbreaking.
But thats probably what makes him great, self doubt pushes you to keep trying to do better.
He's just humble
It’s more humility than it is insecurity
Thats dumb. He knows who he is and what he can do. Feeling sad for someone who knows their abilities is nonsense.

Tim Blake has got to be the most humble actor in all of Hollywood
I can't wait for the jerry seinfield episode where he only talks about bee movie

@@4CornerGloDrefoe You are an absolute DOUCHE BAG
It's crazy to hear Tim say that he almost turned down the role of Delmar in O' Brother because he thought his performance might not hold up.... Good thing he said yes to that role because I can't see anyone else doing it as well as him. He totally killed it! So did Clooney AND so did John Turturro. All three were totally perfect in their roles and none could be replaced without tarnishing that gem of a film!!!
You can't really beat that casting; Turturro and Nelson are such massive supporting actors, Clooney must've been thrilled and a little apprehensive when he took his part.
Here after watching Old Henry! Movie was outstanding!!
Tim Blake Nelson, one of the most talented and lovable character players in Hollywood. If he could just play the scarecrow in Wizard of Oz, my heart would be fulfilled...
Looking glass is easily one of my favorite characters in a show
He has always been one of my favorites and every time he pops up unexpectedly I know the movie just got 100× better!
Buster Scruggs was my favorite part of that movie, just that whole segment was so fun. O Brother is still my favorite movie he's been in and well one of my favorite movies of all time.
His talent and dedication as an actor is only matched by his humility. The guy is so humble and considerate, is so amazing!!
This guy deserves his own Buster Scruggs Netflix show. It'd be an instant hit.

What a thoughtful man...humble, kind, appreciative and well spoken. Delmar and Buster Scruggs are my favorite characters...
he may think he’s not “the guy”, but i can’t imagine anyone else in the roles he plays for these movies.
I still listen to In the Jail House Now when cleaning around the house. Classic.
dont you wish everyone with a decent skill set like this guy, was as humble as this guy.
What an incredibly intelligent and articulate individual. Love him
He should have won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.
Don't you mean leading actor?
This is one of the best interviews by an actor. Some of them, I won't mention names, are not engaging. He is truly interesting.
Even if he's just in a scene or two, he'll steal it. Super underrated guy.
