    Could have added the 5800X3D since it's a slot-in upgrade for AM4, and it deals blows with the newest CPUs in some games.

      A big enough oversight to make the whole video kind of pointless imo when the 5800x3D is the only bang-for-the-buck upgrade that makes sense. The case for cutting corners with a cheaper 5000 series cpu is nonexistent for a person looking to spend going on $2000 for a gpu.

      Agree - AM5 still needs time to mature. For now, the most bang per buck for gamers is to upgrade to the 5800X3D and think about AM5 in 3 or 4 years.

      Too weak, no. A bottleneck, sure. It's worth noting though, that putting a 4090 in a 5600x rig is more than a bit ridiculous, and a 3080 is far more reasonable to put in such a system. 2000$ for the GPU, 200$ for the processor? Nah... the dude at the shop didn't use the right verbiage, but he was correct in his assertion that it's an undermatched CPU to that GPU.

    I went from a 3600 to a 5800 X 3-D (329 on ebay new) in destiny 2 at 4k. Noticed a huge gain. Was on a 3080. Some areas would drop to 60-70fps. Same with 4090. Then x3d it’s always a constant 120 capped. And 160-200 uncapped.. some areas dip to 130-160 but it’s rare…

    This makes me feel pretty comfortable. I’m running a 6800+5600X but just recently upgraded to an G9 super ultrawide monitor. Given that it’s just below 4k, the 6800 isn’t bad but definitely could use replacing and I had my eye on the 4090.

    • @Angel7black
      @Angel7black ปีที่แล้ว

      No you, even a 3600X can gain at 4K a lot from a 4090. 4K is such a hard resolution to run at and it shows exactly how nutty the 4090 is. Weirdly i think the $1600 for a 4090 is technically a decent deal price to performance wise, the issue is most people would never be able to afford it and every card under it scales horribly price to performance wise. Its the whole reason the 4090 is the only new card selling well. Technically the XTX till recently has always been out of stock but that card has so little supply its hard as hell to maintain an anemic demand even

      It does make a huge difference in the caching. It's even an upgrade, gamer wise, over 800, 900, and 950 skus, where normally slotting a same gen is just a sidegrade (technically would be a downgrade over 900/950). I just built a 5800x3D/3070ti machine for a client, no cap, it's just not comparable to any other processor I've seen gaming wise. The v-cache 7000 series should be very interesting.

    Catch me rocking a Ryzen 5 1600x and an RX6600 at 1080p and still getting almost 100% utilisation on the graphics card :p
    That being said, this is super important information for consumers, thank you. It's really hard to know what you *need* to upgrade over what you want to, and balancing a system for your own use case is what is important.
    I'm finally thinking of upgrading to a 5600x as my golden 1600x at 4.1ghz all cores can suck down 125w, the same as my RX6600 and I am most interested in efficiency now over anything else

  • @loki76
    @loki76 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    One major problem with this video.
    If you're on am AM4 motherboard a quick and cheaper solution is simply to get the 5800X3D and it will hold you over for a bit. It wins in some games and sits on equal terms in some. Yes, it does lose to the best of the newest Intel and AM5. But it's still producing frames that are far greater than any other 5000 series CPU.
    I decided to upgrade my 5600X, I went with 5800X3D and plan to upgrade that later on. 1-2 generations from current newest Intel and AMD.
    DDR5 prices would come down by then and hopefully prices in general. Or at the very least it would be a far more substantial increase in performance. I only need to reach 120fps because that is the limit of my 4K TV I use as Monitor.

    • @AdalbertSchneider_
      @AdalbertSchneider_ ปีที่แล้ว +1

      AMEN ! 😎
      2nd problem with this video were his graphs - I had to rewind back cause I realised, that in some weired cases, the CPU possitioned on the top of the chart ( highest FPS ) was not the 7600X but something else. More consistency would be fine - if 7600X sucks in some game - let it be on top, but with the shorter bar ! ( 4K tests I think... )

    • @niikon
      @niikon ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Big fail on HC side…

    • @madigorfkgoogle9349
      @madigorfkgoogle9349 ปีที่แล้ว

      ... and I would just add that even those "poor" 2600X users are pretty fine in this comparison. While yes, they could have better frame rate with more modern CPU, but still we are talking over 100 FPS in majority of cases in 1440p. So I think that is fine even without CPU upgrade and simply waiting for 7x00X3D... maybe.
      If not, the 5800X3D is the best bang for buck by large margin, if you already own a qualified main-board.
      I also do not agree with authors conclusion, that if you upgrade to 5x00 Ryzen you are future proof for next gen GPUs (meaning RTX50x0 and XT8x00) since we dont know if there will be no other requirement, like PCIe5...

    • @HardwareCanucks
      @HardwareCanucks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely. I'm not recommending the 5600X necessarily. We just needed to narrow it down to a manageable test and the x600 series was perfect for it. regardless of the CPU you get, be it the X3D or 5600X, the upgrade over the 2000 or 3000 series would be immense.

    Interesting take overall however, I think the majority of people who have acquired the RTX 4090 are more likely to have the 900 & 950 SKUs rather than the 600.
    It would have been nice to have had the full range to compare and see how much they affect overall performance in real world situations. Plus the 5800X3D might have been a good idea to include as well.

      Your CPU actually becomes less relevant in most cases at higher resolutions! Generally speaking, your CPU has to push fewer calculations at higher resolutions because your GPU isn't going to be producing as many frames. 4K gamers have to spend more on their GPU's typically, and can often hold out longer on CPU upgrades.

    Hmm...interesting. I have a 3600 and was keen to know the relative uplift at 4k/120 I would get by changing CPU in combination with a 4090. It's really a game by game thing. COD, Total War, GoW, Hitman show not much difference. When there is a difference it matters not much as I am stuck to 120fps/hz. However, it's ray tracing that I see the benefits to an extent. Is it worth £200 for a 2fps gain in Cyberpunk though? I could just dump a 5600x in there for a helpful uplift and maybe some futureproofing.
