to be fair I work as a software engineer and we don't optimise for performance because we optimise for readability, portability and reuse.. Fair enough to optimise a platform game for one off game publisher but what about if you want the source code to last for 10 years worked on by a team of 20 developers in a continuous integration pipeline, running on a JIT compiler distributed over a client -server network (i.e. different hardware targets) , its not really the same problem. No disrespect for Gary I loved his games.
Totally agree with Darryl when he says: I rater play a game without cut scenes and that looks like an 8 bit game if it is a total fun to play! :)
