Please try indian brand titan since 1987
Notable exceptions to the fashion brand list: Cartier and Bulgari!!
How about Tissot? Is it a designer brand or a one that is like the Rolex, Casio etc.?
@@gauravravichandran1083 Tissot is generally good
@@dexter5653 Definitely
The drop shippers are literally the middle man
LOL yup
@@ChronometerCheck what's your opinion on buying an old accutron? I heard that they are almost impossible to service. Also, I heard that most of the space view accutrons are not original, so why are they so much more expensive?
but middleman aren’t a brand, they’re people selling other brands. this video is dumb
Fr
Amazon
The one exception to the fashion brand is Cartier, in my opinion.
You can put Montblanc in that same category (if pens are considered fashion that is lol). They don't make watches as an afterthought. The geosphere is beautiful and runs like a dream. Not necessarily worth the sticker price though.
and bulgari
And hermes
And herpes.
(I’ll show myself out..)
@@e28forever30 😆 😆
I recently fell in love with Orient
Orient is one of the very few brands that make all its pieces in-house
I have a Kamasu and love it
Orient and Citizen are my go-to for affordable "legit" watches. Though I'm a bit biased towards Citizen cause of their radio controlled eco-drive
I was going to say it but then you've already did
Absolutely stunning brand!! They’re timepieces are creative, and being creative in the watch market is difficult.
There's some luxury Brands to considered though like Cartier, Bvlgari, Hermes, and now even Channel has some cool in-house calibers
BVLGARI makes some of the finest movements available today.
cartier made their first watch in 1904, bvlgari has set world records with their watches. Those 2 have been good choices for years but for the other 2 im not so sure, by the same logic, ralph lauren makes automatic watches but i don’t think they’re worth it over the established brands
@uravdb take a look out at what Hermes a bit more and take a good look at what Channel did for example with the J12
Channel?
Never heard of that brand..
@@e28forever30 it’s a French cologne/perfume brand
Completely agree unless it’s a Hublot😂
I'm a Citizen fan. The price is good enough that I've been able to pick up that go with different outfits or outing. I have had the same daily watch for year.
I fell for the trap and bought a Daniel Wellington watch. Absolute mediocre watch I got for the price I paid.
I too always liked them for the minimal design. Glad I didn’t buy any of them 🫠
It is a 20$ watch. Not even kidding. Bought a fake for my friend for 50$ and it was LITERALLY better quality than the real deal.
Hahahaha. I believe it
@@nielslarsen1693really? i heard some people buy fake one and it rust
I'm sure it cost them like £10 max but like it does what it does and i love the super slim design imo, it's perfect simple design everything is so simple! 💀 i need someone to make quality knock off plsss sapphire glass etc but exactly the same
A lot of guys at school wear this brand and I laugh at them when they try to flex with it lol.
Some fashion brands contract out their watches to Swatch or Richemont (for example Ralph Lauren partners with Richemont) to make and just put their label on it. And Gucci actually invested a lot into a swiss manufacturing operation and hired some known people in the industry to design them. Though if you look at what brands are owned by Swatch Group or Richemont, you know you will get a good watch. And those brands have budget lines like Tissot, Hamilton, Mido, etc.
I have a Swatch-made Calvin Klein. Looks kinda blah but it's tough as nails. Haven't scratched the crystal yet and you can wear it in the shower.
Swiss and Japanese movements are generally better quality, automatic if your budget stretches
I always prefer brand produced watch maker. I stay away fashion brand...
I like automatic watch. My favourite brands are SEIKO, ORIENT , CITIZEN and swiss - manufacturer...
If you like it, and it works for you, then enjoy it
casio to let japanese clean sweap
I love the 2 citizens I have. Got ome back in 2013 and another in 2017. Both went completely dead so I put them in sunlight for a day an they work perfectly fine
Seiko and Casio fan here ❤
I like to rock Bulova, gorgeous watches that always last
Bulova I feel is another brand that has been out there quite some time in the watch department. I have a Sutton President Style one and I love the automatic movement. They may use Miyotas but they are quite reliable and Bulova has some very intricate designs.
Big Tissot fan!
You mean "Expensive Swatch?"
I have a Swatch made watch, too. It says "Calvin Klein" on it.
@@jrshaulyou realize Omega, Hamilton and Longines are owned by swach? almost every good swiss watch brand is "Expensive Swatch" 😂. I also own a CK swatch made but it just different and feels so cheap 😅.
@@jrshaulDumbest comment ever.
Me too man I got a “Luxury powermatic 80” which is a dressier watch on alligator and a PRX powermatic 80. Both have shown me how affordable swiss watches can be without sacraficing quality!
Theres no need to "stay away" from them...just don't pay hundreds of dollars for them 😂
Was happy to see the Hamilton show up
Even tissot
My favorite watch maker is Hamilton.
You can never go wrong with a Casio f91w
How about Cartier? They are fashion brand (jewelery, perfume, etc) but they also have iconic watches like tank and santos
They have a history of making watches for years
Cartier I think is overrated
@@sagnikchaudhuri4142 it is, they make nice watches but they don’t suit my taste personally I don’t really understand that particular watch manufacture in general
@@Chris09978 Their movements are not that great
@@sagnikchaudhuri4142 that surly know
One more reason to stay away from these brands is the same issue with "fast fashion" clothing brands: potentially sketchy supply-chain issues. People are still being paid to make products for those brands, and at the prices this stuff is sold for, they're not getting paid much.
I have a timex for the last 13 years. Still works well. Just replaced battery once after 8 years. Another one being a Casio is 5 years old and still holding up great. Love both brands
The dirty secret of the watch industry is that doctors wear Timex and divers - real divers - wear Casios.
Mostly because your watch doesn't malfunction if you put it in the same building as an MRI machine.
Longines and tissot good brands, affordable prices
I literally have a $250 Michael kors watch. I don’t even think that’s a designer brand. And it’s a pretty good looking watch.
Tissot my fav brand I got 2 of their watches. Their owner once said “gold watches for silver prices” I dig that, it is true their watches are great
One exception to fashion brand is off course cartier, a brand often more associated with jewlery but has a rich history with watches, also I just adore the santos
buy whatever suits you
Sure. At the end of the day, it is your money to do with as you please. These are just suggestions to help inform people who might not know otherwise. Once you're informed, do whatever you want.
I have a Casio duro, and couldn’t be happier with a watch for the price! It keeps the time well and looks great!
Respect for throwing timex and casio in there. Quality watch doesn't have to be luxury
Casio and Seiko are great brands for wristwatch
I want to get myself a marathon
As a brokie, a casio and seiko are the only watches i own and what i want to own based on my budget. I have multiple casios for daily use (of course) and one seiko from my grandpa for formal uses
Or citizen which is also great
Never runs out of power
10 years eco drive still works
There are some dropship watches that are really nice. I recently bought a oupinke 3269. The watch is really nice quality. Has a sapphire crystal, and a swiss stp1-11 movement. As mentioned Cartier is a fashion brand.
cartier obviously is not to be avoided, but hermes watches are also incredible.
True man. There are always exceptions
Don’t forget bulgari and chopard
Well said , im still wearing a 1984 seiko 5
check the "used" price and you know what's good.
Very good advice Michael H!
I buy Seiko, Pagani Design, Addiesdive (I work on ships and they are unbelievable value for work, its been to 100ft and was perfect)..other than my Grand Seiko, it's all about value not labels.
Cartier, bvlgari, Piaget very serious about watches .. Chopard too is worth it...
I'm thinking about buying a BULOVA 96A187 AUTOMATIC MECHANICAL it's £320 would you recommend this as my first 'decent' watch
Can’t go wrong with a Timex😎
I am a big fan of Rotary watches. Low cost, reliable and good looking
Not exactly reliable. They're outsourced spare-parts cases and dials with cheap knockoff movements like PTZ Hangzhou.
Seagull arguably makes swiss knockoffs, but they make 'em about as well as the Swiss.
@@jrshaul I didn’t know that. That’s a shame
Understatement at its best? Nomos!
Love Nomos
I have a Gucci diver had it over 4 years, it's tank tough and my every day beater. I have several watches Oris longines Raymond Weil citizen yet go for the Gucci most times. Plus they have been doing watches for a long time.
Gucci what ever they do from the inside of the watch is garbage, for the price a Gucci sells their watches for, you can buy a Hamilton, oris, Tissot, and even a citizen all of theee are great watches. I own a Hamilton I recently bought their new model cause I do however like the design and I know it’s a good watch. Even got it for a steal too lol. MSRP was around 2,400 or 2,200 welp I got it for $1400 on joma shop. To be fair though Hamilton is a great watch brand, there are certainly better ones out there but Hamilton is one of the few watch manufactures that actually are honest about their watches and the prices are “fair” ( it’s expensive for sure but many people understand why and what your getting is better than decent)
Don’t worry I’m not one branded type person, I have actually had a tough time finding watches or the ones I liked or suited my taste, was looking at “John wicks” watch, oris, tissot which I almost went with, Hamilton obviously, citizen, a small German watch manufacture Archemeide they are actually a great watch brand a really good one almost went with that one. I did also looked at omega, I knew it was way over my range but thanks to authorized dealer it gave me hope that can save up for it, MSRP can be scary for sure but once you take a look at the market it’s a breath of fresh air.
I did however go on a rant and stuff but you have a lot more to learn, of a good watch maker that has history and continues to be good or other watch brands that were once good but not anymore like Raymond Weil, it’s a stay away from they make nice watches but they are not good.
I’ve been digging around and what I could find based on information on watches and stuff, loved my g shocks never bought a Casio it was always g shock I have like 4-5 g shocks in my time of high school, did own a swatch, and now I have a Hamilton which I’m very happy about
If you enjoy it, and it works for you, that's all that matters
@@Chris09978 your clearly a certified horology expert. I did state I own many watches more than I mentioned. My Gucci diver (if garbage inside) has done itself proud. It's been up mountains in the sea and never skipped a beat
Get what you like. It’s really that simple. Not everyone cares about the history or heritage (I do), and if you just like how it looks, get it. Don’t let people guilt you into not getting something that caught your attention.
Gotta agree, honestly I prefer some of the watches like armani etc over other mainstream watch brands because i prefer their looks
@@viktorval8398 I agree . I’ve seen some Burberry watches that look really good and are actually Swiss made too. At the end, if you like it, who am I to criticize you for it? It literally doesn’t affect me at all.
The grand seiko snowflake was a nice pick. But im upset as you didnt mentioned tissot
Entry level Michael kors and Armani, fossil and diesel watches arnt expensive. U can get them from a base of around 2.3k rand or around 150 dollars
But why not to buy designer brands watches ? Can anybody explain?
The main reason isn't because of brand has everything to do craftmanship and reputation.
Seiko Casio Rollex ( anything swiss - Japanese movements ) are always going amongst the best in the world.
The Issue for many people is wanting a deal or bargin because not everyone can afford $300-$400 on a watch sure the big watch brands will always put a mark up on those watches no different to anything else.
It's best to just save enough money not get oneself into debt over a watch and be responsible with purchases sounds simple right? Seen many people spend well above their means to afford a watch and other things.
If we take a $500 watch in actual value that's considered mid range watch in terms of mass production when you start venturing into $5,000 + your entering luxury territory there's massive difference in terms of $500 to $5,000+.
Average paycheck here is around $780 USD monthly even a $500 USD watch is almost someone entire paycheck let alone $5,000+ USD
HERMES and Chanel make high horology in house watches. As do Chopard, Cartier, Bulgari.
I think the best watch is the one that you can afford and like. I especially like the emporio armani Ar2448 yes me knows that the quality of the watch by fashion brands are not as good as actual watch brands but it's all I can afford. I have researched affordable watches from tissot, citizen, seiko etc but I did not like their design even though they use sapphire glass which is supposedly scratch proof compared to mineral Crystal. So if I were to buy watches with designs I don't like I would not wear it as often which in turn will be a waste of money.
In India go for HMT , TITAN , and there is Delhi watch company, Bangalore watch company. They make really good watches , Where HMT is heritage watch makers , i bought myself one last month I'm loving it ❤
Carbon Casio for sports. Hamilton khaki navy belowzero (💓) for everyday wear.
Is breitling a good brand?
What about citizen watch ?
All valid points, but still spent $300+ on a Marc Jacobs watch 😂😂😂 had one in my past life so I just had to get another to add to the collection. 🤦🤷
I think Armani Emprio is a good watch brand
I definitely agree, it’s my favourite affordable watch brand cause it has class and functionality
Some brands have become known for watches even though they didnt start off that way. E.g. Casio. So some brands can mature into becoming a trusted watch brand.
I habe to say i have an emporio armani watch and i love it, its high quality enough and looks great. Thats all that you can and should expect
I literally have that black casio on my arm rn as im watching this.
Is RADO a good watch brand?
I recently saw the RADO true square white and it’s a beautiful piece but I’m not aware of the company reputation
Yes they are reputable brand that you can trust
I don’t have a Rado but plan on adding one to my collection one day. I only hear good things about them. Very reputable and historic company.
@@tobiascheesbrough3671 how about maintenance cost, how much would that set me back?
@@renasdopai 1000 Dollars per service
@@cannibalronny7314 half the price of the watch. How often is service?
I actually don't mind fashion brands. They are honestly getting better all the time. And they have way more unique dials than most of the typical watch brands.
Only Seiko is the viable one on that list of 3 in my opinion. Other reliable brands are Hamilton, Longines, and Oris
hey bro i’m stuck between getting a hugo boss watch or a fossil as my first which should i get which is a better watch brand
damn very informative
My dad gave me his over a decade year old Citizen eco-drive watch It is so accurate thanks to the eco-drive technology.
Quartz. It's a quartz watch.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Cartier is the only fashion brand which I can think of which should not be avoided.
Bulgari ? Hermès ? They made incredible watches too. The H08 is a masterpiece,
Only caveats to fashion ones is: Cartier, Hermes, Piaget, and Bvlgari
Thanks
Happy with Casio EDIFICE
Is Mathey tissot a good brand? Should I buy one of their Homage watches?
The only designer brand that has good watches is Cartier
I own an Armani watch and it's bloody insane/amazing ❤❤
do you think it's worth the price you paid for it?
They are often priced at 200-300€, real value is sub 100€.
Can’t imagine looking at one and finding it to be amazing…
It's not about the watch it self guys, but it was my first watch and it's in my favourite colour matte black everything. Model AR1458. That's why i love it 🤍

@@Muhammadaain Congrats on your first watch! It’s your stepping stone into this crazy world of horology!! Next thing you know you’ll be buying a Vacheron! 😉
Does shinola count as a fashion brand? They do watches as their primary product but then they do other things too. It’s their own designs and they assemble themselves. But they arnt quite a watch brand they bring in Chinese parts and are pretty overpriced they’re kinda in the middle for me
I love the Stürling watches
I think there are exemptions from fashion watches. Armani actually have some models that are made by real watchmakers. Hermes are really getting in to watches in the last years or so, ive even heard rumours of upcoming in house movements. And of course Cartier.
How about Louis Vuitton watches? They are super nice
It depends how you look at it, Chinese Seiko SNK800 Flieger alternative comes with titanium and sapphire glass at the same price. I would rather have a watch which is more durable than less durable but has brand on it.
Doesn't matter if the seals and tolerances are crap and it gets full of water - or the movement is so junk it doesn't last a year.
Montblanc, Chopard and Bvlgari are one of the few good fashion watch brands
Could you class Cartier as a designer brand 🤔
I have many watches of watch brands. But somehow I have a Armani watch, which I bought without knowledge, even after 5-6 yrs it looks & works great & the Casio watch stopped working. Both costed around same. Casio watch is now repaired but looks less stunning than the Armani stainless steel watch.
Thoughts and opinions on Invicta or Citizen?
I have guess my friend has guess, we are totally fine. at least 10 people asked to buy my watch. after severally years later i visited my old friend, i loved his watch and then i realized it's a guess. Another friend has armani, it's bad. You don't have to buy a watch made in 10 years. I am interested watches for 8 years now, even with a money, they are sold for investment.
My dad bought an Armani watch for me in 2017 and it is still going strong today as my everyday wearer
5 years is not long enough to see if a watch is reliable. Wait another 5
Guess makes good watches...not g by guess but actually guess i have 2 guess watches one from 97 and 94 ..good watches
How about Victorinox? Any suggestions?
What do you think about the seiko srpe53k1. Im thinking about buying it as my first 'real' watch.
It’s a Seiko 5. Hard to go wrong.
It's a Seiko. It's fine.
There are exceptions to the fashion brand rule. Though not my taste at all Chanel and Louis Vuitton are investing serious money in fine watch making
should i consider titan or rado in the "should buy" category??
Why does no one talk about the citizen world chrono a-t? Is it cause it's quartz? Its a great watch with so many features!
DW,MVMT,Vincero, Gucci,Versace,Skagen,Hublot,Panerai
How about Casio? They also make calculators and pianos
I love old Hamilton pocket watches
But watches are just a side gig for Casio, less than 15% of their revenue comes from watches. The rest is from medical instruments, musical instruments and calculators
You wanna buy a watch from a medical instrument company or a jewelry company?
casio my beloved, i personally could never justify buying a SUPER expensive watch even of i was a billionaire, thats why i love casio sm, great watches which arent too expensive
A pretty casio is the working class Rolex. Nothing wrong with a cool G-Shock or Edifice.
@@SteamCheese1 There's no such thing as a working class Rolex. They're fragile little toys for people who sit behind desks.
Magnetism? Shock? Pressure? Corrosives? THE CASIO CARES NOT.
Gucci are actually really good and have the same movement type as tags. Theybuse swiss quartz movements.
It's been a long time since the quality of seiko has been anywhere near equal to the prices.
they're certainly getting more and more expensive!
I suppose smart watches are a different category then as you aren’t buying a watch but a screen on your wrist.
mvmnt really hit the podcast game early and became this giant brand through non watch podcast people paying 100 dollars for 5 dollar watches. i almost bought some its crazy
What do you think about Fossil?
