It was a '39 model E ( only 214 units produced) It's also my birthday. I'd say run those Flanders bars, they look great.

My father was an alchy, so no school bags for me. I grabbed one of my father's old leather saddle bags he used to use on his early 50's Matchless, added a rope, threw it over my shoulder and I had a better school bag than any of the other kids.

For those vintage Flanders 30s-40s handlebars, they look better on that other project. They just make the bike look as if it came straight from the Milwaukee factory. Nothing against the high bars, they’re cool, but OEM stuff makes it more cooler and classy. What a killer find Matt!
Hope to hear that ‘48 Panhead run soon!

  • @lewismocaby3646

Man, you’ve got some great treasures there. Really dig the j-slot air cleaners and the Flanders bars. Been thinking about fabbing some exhaust for my 47 and really really dig the exhaust you rounded up. Didn’t know you had been hunting beaded windshield stuff. I’ve ended up with some nos beaded windshield replacement pieces for those windshields that came in a pile of parts mom and dad got at an auction from a dealership that gone out of business. Got red, blue and clear bottom panels and some new clear tops that are all oem replacement parts and pieces that I’m assuming were for use on wrecked bikes but could just be leftover parts that were never used.
Had to hop back on and give an opinion on the bars. The Hellings and Stellings bars are okay but they really do look better on a K-model style bike or very early Ironhead. Even though they’re a 1 inch bar they still have a bit too much of the British styling for a big twin for me, again just an opinion. Flanders bars are the Cats a$$ as far as I’m concerned, bought a couple sets from Darol Dryden over the years and they’re some of the best bars I’ve ever owned. They have the most uniform wall thickness thru the bends that I’ve ever seen and are almost unbendable. The internal throttle and spark retard are even better icing on the cake, surely you’ve got some Beck grips to go with em to add to the dealer accessory styling.

We have a 46 Indian Chief my late grandpa loaned my dad the money to buy when we lived in Mississippi in 1993-5 when I was 7-9.. it was only $500, a complete rust bucket missing the seat and fenders and the engine and trans had been full of water and locked up.. Both my sister and I sat outside under our patio cover the winter we got it sanding the primer a local guy sprayed on the frame for free. Unfortunately all the work was for naught as when we were coming back to California we stopped in Oklahoma City and someone broke into our Jeep and stole my dad's guns and threw the frame on the ground scratching it down to bare metal, and it also needs some rust repair anyways.
My dad's a disabled vet, his dad was US Army retired and had worked on Indians in WW2 which is why he helped him get it, he died in 2000. Unfortunately we don't have the money to put into fixing it.. I'm autistic and have a LOT of physical limitations that keep me from working so I'll never have the money to put into it. I wish I could do a build series on here of fixing it, even if it was just hot rodding it/making it more drivable on today's roads with like a Baker 6 speed and good brakes and bobbed/Harley fenders.. The tanks are in PERFECT shape, they just need cleaned and painted.
I think if I'd be okay with anyone buying it it'd be Matt, I know he'd take care of it and treasure it, even though I wish it could stay in the family and let my nephew ride it someday. (I don't have a gf/wife, let alone kids) Oh and btw, the engine and transmission are both numbers matching according to my dad.

I love old bikes and especially Harley. That said I never collected any. I did however collect early ford parts and pieces fr 1964 on. The best era when old stock was purged from closed dealerships.
I know exactly the ‘joy’ you had finding these coveted and rare parts. And as well the joyous ‘pain’ of overspending the budget. Some things are so cool or rare… well you just gotta jump on it. Well done Sir.

There used to be a motorcycle shop in Fridley Minnesota called Kokesh motorcycle and they used to have a knuckle head drag bike with a supercharger on it that looked like the same kind used on the Studebaker golden hawk and it had a custom frame with a big slick on the rear and they named it the white knuckle express. They used to have it on display in the building along with other old HD 's that they restored and when they had their bike show each year they would put the drag bike out for people to look at and sold t shirts on the bike to help pay for parts and fuel to run it . The shop was around for years then the owner died and his son took the business over for a few years and eventually it closed up so I bet that bikes probably somewhere in the metro area still . There used to be 2 drag strips not far away from the shop one called North Star drag ways in Mounds view and the other Minnesota drag ways in coon rapids and I am sure this bike used to run at either tracks at one time. This bike would look cool sitting on display at this museum if they could some how find where it's at and strike a deal up to buy it and bring it to the museum and get it running to start for the patrons coming to the museum .
