    Y’all should come down to lake Wenatchee!! Great salmon fishing in August. It’s about 2.5 hours from Seattle and .5 hours from Leavenworth Washington.

    I used your basic setup for 25 years until a Tillamook guide showed me what he called the universal salmon rig. Basically, the same setup, swivel for a weight slider on the braid mainline but forgo all the beads and use a piece of rubber vacuum hose about 3 or 4 inches long instead then tie in your bead chain swivel that goes to your bumper. On his recommendation, I started using welded ring ball bearing swivels in place of the 6 bead chain. They don't plug with the fine weeds as bad.
    How it works is the rubber vacuum hose grips and holds the ball bearing swivel eye. The dropper slider presses against the other end of the hose forcing the ball bearing swivel to work. There is zero line twist even using 360 flashers. Eliminates the need the three-way line dividers or filing notches into the plastic sliders. Your local auto parts store has spools of vacuum hose. The stuff I use came from NAPA and has roughly a 1/8 inch inside diameter and a 5/16 inch outside diameter. Three or four feet of it and you will be set a long time.

    Aw heck, I've been setting my rigs up all wrong for years. So glad I stumbled onto this great explanation. Thank you for the well done step by step. Made simple enough even us Idahoans can follow along. (a little sarcasm)

    Been there a million times as a kid, fishing with my grandfather and mom. Sturgeon fishing used to be amazing a few miles up the river too in the late 80s early 90s.

    Awesome video thank you!
    What size: beads / sliders / 6 beads chain / ball bearing swivel / dual snap are you using for salmon fishing?
    Cheers!

    Fishing Lake Michigan in the past we've killed it on glow in the dark orange spoons and glow flies from 4am - 7am. Steelhead on purple/copper spoons, or watermelon on high lines. Planers or just dragging.

    1st time'er rigged a 9' stiff Shakespeare pole with a spinning reel. Used the set-up here only used 50lb line with a 150lb bumper and 25lb. leader about 48"long. But stuck to the "crazy Crabby" spinner and anchovy set-up. Fished three days mostly from the bridge to up around Cliff Pt.
    Got razzed for being obstinate. Everybody else was using blades and at least 50lb leaders.
    RESULTS: got first bite, lost at the net; Captain got first fish (hatchery around 27"), I landed a slightly shorter one a few minutes later. Next day a nice 30" hatchery buck , day three rainy and foggy. skunked. Blessed with two nice fish for following your set-up. It does murder chinooks.🐟🐟 for 🐟🐟🐟

    FINS in Clatskanie, OR is a Great location between Longview, WA and Astoria, OR for Custom Tackle, Gear, Bait, and the Coffee to go with Bacon. Great owners and fair prices on most products for being a small town shop. There's quite a few Gas stations that also sell bait down HWY30 due to the volume of baot ramps, water access, and local fishing demand.

    Usually for salmon on the small greatlakes tributaries salted shiners work. Also i like to run larval baits on a tiny maribou lead head jig

    Great instructional...those fish are only endangered due to the commercial fishing and seals... I've always felt that they shouldn't be sold in the grocery stores if you want to eat fish...you should have to catch fish...course that would put a lot of idiots on the water... can't win for loosing.

    Would this setup work for lake trolling with downriggers, minus the sliding swivel and weight?

  • @davedunham399
    @davedunham399 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I notice you run weights and not downriggers. I am new to salmon fishing...years of kokanee with downriggers. Even when I am fishing shallow waters 30' up I still use my riggers so I know I have my lines at exact depths. For example I may want lines at 10' - 15' - 20 and 25'. how can you get that accuracy with weights only

    I’m sorry I watched this guy’s video. I thought it was the “murdering fish” comment that did it for me, but it was actually the open acknowledgment of fishing an endangered species for regulations be in place to protect said species, and being butt-hurt they exist. I did come here to watch his setup and, shameless plugs aside, that’s what I got.
