- A wet and rainy autumn walk in Shipton-under-Wychwood. A picturesque village located in Oxfordshire, near the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in the Cotswolds, England. It has a rich history dating back many centuries.
The area around Shipton-under-Wychwood has evidence of early human habitation, with archaeological finds dating back to the Roman period.
The English village is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as "Sciptone", and it was held by the Norman lord Miles Crispin.
The village developed further during the medieval period. It was part of the Wychwood Forest, which was a royal hunting forest.
Throughout its history, the village's economy was primarily based on agriculture, with farming being the main occupation for the residents.
The English village is home to the historic Church of St. Mary the Virgin, which dates back to the 12th century. The church has undergone various alterations and additions over the centuries.
Wychwood Forest: The village's proximity to Wychwood Forest played a significant role in its history. The forest provided resources and hunting grounds for the local population.
In more recent times, Shipton-under-Wychwood has evolved into a residential village, with a mix of historic and newer buildings.
The English village has a close-knit community and hosts various events and activities throughout the year, contributing to its cultural heritage.
The village had a railway station on the Oxford, Worcester and Wolverhampton Railway, which opened in the mid-19th century. This played a crucial role in the village's development.

Shipton is a beautiful village which seems prosperous; everything is neat and clean.
The houses are large and some very old.
A nice hostel too, which seems welcoming.
The surrounding countryside and the small roads are full of charm.

That could not have been an easy task. An early morning walk in the rain and cold whilst controlling a camera and Umbrella while also being splashed by the passing cars through the puddles. I genuinely felt your discomfort and longing, as you looked through the window at the log fire and its warmth! A job well done Kevin!

Absolutely beautiful. The way I used to see England in story books, and (every version of) pride and prejudice movies and books lol.. Jane Austen stories. Even older Disney animated movies. It was so dreamy to me all the way here in California. I grew up in the suburbs outside of downtown Los Angeles, so I grew up in pretty neighborhoods and near the pacific coast. Cities can be fun, too! My husbands niece lives in Chippenham and I hope to visit her someday soon. I hope to visit for a month because there’s so much to see in England that seven days isn’t enough. I don’t know where Chippenham is to where you are walking but she better take me there! Lol. Thank you for sharing. ❤️😁

More rain walks please! The UK is just gorgeous. In many ways, it reminds me of the North West region of US/Canada. I'm from Seattle (trapped in Texas now due to a promotion/transfer), and absolutely miss the rain.

What a wonderful walk in the rain through this lovely Cottswold village. Thank for getting wet for us, Kevin, so we could stroll in comfort, although I was walking on my treadmill. I am always intrigued by all the stone walls and buildings in these villages. I wish I could go back in time and see the men building these. I wonder if the bricks were made locally or brought in. I’m just watching on my TV and I was thinking, Why is he walking in the middle of the Road …… then the penny dropped, most of the cars have parked on the pavement 🫣
I guess if they didn’t No traffic would move on the road, I’ve seen lots of similar parking on Buxton roads where I used to live.
