Sweet Jesus, even her speaking voice is so sublime! It's the kind of voice I've heard described as the "phonebook voice," as in, even if she were just reading from a phonebook, it would sound so enchanting and charming. What a wonderful woman.
Arguably the most talented Australian alive. First heard her mesmerizing voice in 1994 while watching the film BARAKA. The hairs instantly went up on the back of my neck, and I went back again the next day to the theater just to hear her sing. She really is a spirit from some other world.
She's just like her music; instantly captivating. I've been an admirerer of her music since the 80's when I immediately enjoyed the first cd I purchased.
She's such a unique person. Reminds me of Grace Jones in that way. Talking to her, you get a feeling that she's from somewhere very far away and is here just for a time.
I'm very pleased to come across this interview with Lisa, having not seen anything about herself or Brendan since London in 1984, where they lived in a very small apartment in The Isle of Dogs. Previously, I used to video Dead Can Dance in inner city Melbourne venues, including the Crystal Ballroom in the early eighties. Her voice is still as mystique and beautiful as it was almost 40 years ago.
I always felt it was a shame she was not in the soundtrack for the LOTR trilogy. To hear her voice when Frodo sails west to Valinor or when Gandalf describes the moment of his resurrection...!
What a wonderful interview, and yes I'm going to comment on how alluring she was in that red dress. When I listen to her I fall under her power, there are wonderful singers- with Lisa, there is only..love.
Honore Chaisson + If this is your first time to see them live you're in for a treat, to listen to Lisa on recordings or on here is one thing, to listen in person is mesmerizing. Enjoy......peace
crystal eunoia - crystal eunoia - Hey there, I am watching this and saw your comment. Because of covid 19, i don't know if the concert could be going ahead. I would be so excited if I was going too. So I just want to wish you happy birthday, as it happens to now be May 2020, and I hope you will have another opportunity to see them.. and that it will be all the more a powerful experience for the wait.. x🎏
@@dasding4376 Sadly, the concert that I was going to for my birthday was cancelled. But I'd rather it be canceled that have anyone get sick. They rescheduled the concert in May of next year. 😊
crystal eunoia - Just in time for next year's birthday! ^^ Something to look forward to then... Cool. Hopefully the Wuhan pathogen will have exited stage left and you'll get your socks knocked off! All the best x
“I don’t make soup, I work with artists!” I love that and I’m so glad she thinks that way. She’s absolutely amazing! makes me so glad to see that with all that’s going on in today’s music industry, there’s still some good talent out there! Some pure and unique talent. 🥰 Loved the interview.
I would imagine to garner the strength of her voice she would have to carry herself in the manner in which she does. Very articulate, slow-speaking, and calm. Untouched by "frequencies" as she stated. It's absolutely fascinating...I only know of one other artist that projects this same idealism, but is much younger and jovial--Aurora
Listen, please, to what she says at 11:00 about her and Brendan's experience when they created music together in London. I have ALWAYS felt that their creations are from the spiritual realm, God or "Heaven", and that when I do pass over to that world, I will hear their Musica Eternal. Thank You Brendan and Lisa for giving us a peek into the fortunes of a world we ALL will have one day. -CLS
She is just as lovely as I have always imagined her to be- her speaking voice, her careful words and amazingly graceful presence...everything about her is as beautiful as her voice.
****SPIRITCHASER is the most fascinating, unique, sublime album, so outer-earthly and so known in the same time ...oh, such a lack of humanly words for describing the whole DCD lifetime work! But this album! Only if i knew it would use Lisa Gerard's own language to draw a masterpiece of how i love it and relate to. SPIRITCHASER was, is and always will be the soundtrack of my own life path. Greetings from Bulgaria.
I like how the interviewer is very understanding and humble in her framing of questions. Lisa Gerrard, and what she connects to, is deep deep stuff not for the faint of heart. Look at the searing (but kind) intelligence in Lisa's eyes.
lisa Gerrard Is type of women that no normal human being will ever get tired of or bored from, for living and listen to her, Her appearance is pristine and sensible.
How did I never hear of this enigmatic and haunting Artist? I knew "And Now We Are Free" from Gladiator. I thought it was Enya. I loved this interview. You can't get more real than that... Great work, Ms.Virginia Trioli. Lisa is an Australian Treasure.
Very good interview and congratulations to Virginia Trioli's sensitivity. Mrs Gerrard is quiet a strange mixture while talking: sometimes distant and in a kind of artificial stance, then suddenly beeing warm and funny but always with that slow rythm of talk, concentrated, focused.
Now We Are Free is an Immortal Masterpiece. At first hearing I thought it was Latin but then discovered it is her own idioglossia. If Lisa sang it in Latin I'm sure it would be as magnificent a masterpiece as that that Lisa has given us.
My brain thinks that she is an ancient who came into this world. I've had some interesting delusions about her. My brain is not rational. I can relate to her. I love writing, and I'll do it until the end of my days, even if I never master the craft. I'd do it in the rain or shine. Deep love or safety is not what I get from her work. LOL It registers as fear and lamenting to me, my two favorite emotions.
Almost as if she's about to levetate the way she is clinging to the chair - she is not from this world. If souls had names , mine would be Lisa Gerrard 💜
when i listen to her voice i always imagine myself walking in a foggy peaceful forrest while this is playing in the background, not knowing where im going but knowing that ill be ok
I've been trying to find an interview with Sumi Jo and haven't had any luck yet, of course it would have to be in English , perhaps that's the problem !
2022 and still no one on earth with a voice like Lisa’s
Diva dance.. she definitely isn’t Lisa, but it’s definitely just as unique. Love them both
well, she has her own imprint, BUT, lots of other 4ad artists had her style/vision
Miriam Makeba
she is not of this world, she is a seer, poet and a wandering spirit love her
this woman has depth beyond which of us cannot imagine .. she a gift from the universe to humanity
many years later ... I have returned to watch this interview again! She is from eternity!

Lisa Gerrard and Enya are two of the most beautiful voices ever ❤️🎶❤️
Elizabeth Fraser of the Cocteau twins, and Sinead o Connor . That with Lisa and enya makes 4 of the best for me
Not so easy, you forgot Loreena McKennitt😜

She is an angel in flesh.
Lisa and Enya are angels and no one can tell me otherwise...
I love them❤👑
I connect with Lisa on a level that defies human language. The beauty of her energy is not of this world.
She is exactly how I imagined someone who could create such unbelievably beautifully unique music would be
Yes, very very authentic!
She's such an elegant, graceful lady. Thank you, ma'am, for your great art 💐

My hat goes off to Virginia Troli who did this interview. Lisa Gerard is just so brilliant, and to hone her in and make her cohesive is truly a gift.
I agree. An excellent interviewer. No cliches.
Nobody has a voice like she has...
Liz Frazier but i love them both dearly
Truth! And what a voice, such breath, such depth, transcendent. A living Legend.

Lisa and Brandon are the best, since the first time I`ve heard them, that`s it! Her voice is a Soul voice! Thank you DCD for your work!
she doesn't need words in her music she uses vocalized emotion
She just translates what the universe flows in her
👍🙂.
She's so beautiful. Love her take on her Art and the integrity she shows to her craft.
Her voice is literally from the heavens....truly angelic..
