- I’m a Plastics Guy. There’s no doubt about that! But, a photo on Facebook sparked my interest in trying Hand Tied Jigs.
Raymond at Rocky Mountain Custom Jigs posted a photo of some Jigs he had made and by golly they were pretty close to one of my favorite Crappie chasing colors. So, I reached out to him and asked if a few tweaks could be made. Different color head, #2 sickle hook were the only things I wanted changed. “Sure thing” he said.

Tried chasing some crappie with my dad this weekend using your double jig setup. We got skunked, but it was the first time we fished together in almost 20 years. We had a blast! Thanks for the great, informative videos Jake. Always look forward to those notifications!
Now that right there is what I’m talking about! Glad you got out with your Dad! Sometimes it’s more about the memories than it is the fish. However, fish make it even more fun. Hopefully next time y’all get on em!

Bonus tip. Look for deep drop offs along rocks this time of year. The Shad move in on those rocks to feed. The rocks warm the water and draw fish that feed on those Shad. Navionics app can help you find those type of locations.

I already like this fishing action speaking of early in the morning 3 or 5 years ago I went before daybreak got there the sun was just rising as I parked my truck and grabbed my bait caster and walked down to the slue coming off the creek . I stopped when I saw a really big blue herring fly quickly up and away like a dark gray blue bler . Anyway there was a two and a quater lb slab white croppy flopping on the narrow point of bank going out and into the water . Well I caught zip that day . But with minnows or spinners it's a good spot .

What line are you using?
6# viscious hi-vis
Mono? Do you recommend braid? #6 mono is 0.2 mm and #10 braid is 0.1 mm

Yes, that is mono. I prefer it over braid when crappie fishing.
Catfishing is a different story.

I use the 7’6” split grip from ACC. Reels are either the Kastking Valiant Eagle 1000 or the Abu Garcia Silver Max 1000.

It’s just one more tool. Their jig butter is great for plastics as well. Love their waxy worm flavor.

That is a 7’6 and it’s probably the Viper X 1000. Either that or it’s the Valiant Eagle 1000 from Kastking.
