Using my own photo that I am editing....When I get to 2:15, make the layer mask, then click on the Brush tool, get proper size and flow and then I start to go over the image, NOTHING happens....no changes at all...i did everything as shown, what is the issue?

Hello dude, make sure you properly group with the black mask, then make sure foreground color is white, then try painting on it, Thanks :)

When you make the copy of the original image that you'll use to make the color and texture layer. Be sure to convert it to a Smart Object before you add the Gaussian Blur or High Pass effect.
