Daniel Day-Lewis explains how he came to learn about Christy Brown and to play him in the film My Left Foot.
Christy Brown (1932 - 1981) was a writer, painter and poet who had severe cerebral palsy. The film My Left Foot tells the story of his life.
A few years ago, Daniel Day-Lewis met theatre and film producer Noel Pearson. Over the course of an evening, Noel told Daniel the story of Christy Brown’s life. Without knowing anything more about him, Christy became a hero to Daniel.
Having read the script for My Left Foot he was gripped by how beautifully it was written. While nervous about playing a hero of his, he felt compelled to take on the role.
Extraordinarily difficult part to play because of his condition and trying to recreate that condition.
Although Daniel never met Christy Brown, film director Jim Sheridan showed him a recording of Christy on ‘The Late Late Show’ experimenting with the use of colourful language. This helped him to get an insight into his character.
What Daniel found most interesting about the script was that Christy’s disability was not a predominant feature. Christy Brown was a pioneer charting new territory.
He confronted his own fears, which takes huge courage and he confronted other people’s fears head on.

Brown had already been dead seven years before the movie was released.
He's seems stressed out and more sensitive here and yet beautifully vulnerable.

No ti sbagli, solo Daniel ha vinto tre Oscar, solo lui li meritava davvero, altri glieli hanno negati perché non oscurasse tutta Holliwood con soli 22 film!!! Non mi stanco di ripetere: rassegnatevi, i Tom Cruise, i Jack Nicholson, i Di Caprio( chi è costui?), i Christian Bale, i Ralfh Finnies, solo pallidi imitatori, taluni insignificanti, molto dediti al guadagno smisurato( centinaia di film molti dei quali dimenticabili) e neanche lontanamente il talento, la professionalità, la modestia di quest’uomo!! Ascoltate quello che dice al Montecito festival del dopo Lincoln del 2012 mi pare, Michael Mann, regista de L”Ultimo dei mohicani, di Daniel Day Lewis e così vi rassegnate: Daniel è inarrivabile in tutto!!!

Nicholson only won best actor twice but he won best supporting actor once.
And we should consider DDL only made a few of movies, he's very artistic even for his choices, he doesn't do it for money. Imagine how many Oscars he would have now if he made more movies like Anthony Hopkins, Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, and others.
Daniel i think is also tom cruise, who is also definitely matthew mcconahey.
Dustin hoffman is al pacino and maybe also tom cruise or the previous generation, the father of tom cruise/matthew mcconahey.
The face structure between tom cruise, daniel day lewis and matthew mcconahey all match perfectly basically.
Christian bale might be another of this persons aliases. Look at the eyes, brow jawline, long rectangular face, big hump nose.
