- Daniel Day-Lewis answers questions from the international media in the press room at the 62nd Academy Awards ceremony, following his Best Actor win for 'My Left Foot'. The picture quality on this one is not great (even by my standards, lol) but it's worth watching anyway.

I just love the way he speaks.Very soft.
Whens he thinking listen to the room. Complete silence. Just a measure of the respect he commands. As an aspiring actor/writer he is the ultimate inspiration and template. Mixed with his incredible intellect is a brave, dedicated actor. The greatest.

The way he pauses for about 10 seconds before answering shows his attention to detail.
Still my favourite comedy of all. I think it still holds up funnier than even Wild Guitar or The Shining

A great tribute to Working Class Communities the World over who are almost always ahead of the rest of Society when it comes to not just accepting different but using it as a strength. Huge credit to DDL for his role in highlighting that and his brilliance as an Actor overall
I remember the scenes in Ireland when he won, the country went nuts! Who cares if he is English, he's done so many Irish films over the years and taken the country to his heart to such an extent that we have subsequently adopted him as one of our own. Jack Charlton was English, St. Patrick was Welsh, Michael Flatley is American..... go figure!
He, is in fact, half Irish...North Ireland.
Can't wait to see him as Abraham Lincoln in Spielberg's new biopic!!!

i finally saw my Left foot recently and was amazed as always the first time i saw him was The Boxer which is an underrated performance as well, Gangs Of New York incredible and of course Lincoln and There Will Be Blood also check out if u havent The Age Of Innocence another film he did with Martin Scorsese

Luke19989 except he is half Irish. Irish father, visited Ireland numerous times a year growing up, holds an irish passport, lives in county Wicklow in Ireland. 🇮🇪

He does seem to be very thoughtful in every interview. In the Charlie Rose interview promoting the Ballad of Jack and rose with himself and his wife (the writer and director of the film), he did a much better job of describing her movie than she did. He should write because he talks like a writer and contributes to his characters like a writer (inventing characteristics and even some dialogue that wasn't in the script)

Good point. American citizens born and raised elsewhere are often just called Americans. Why shouldn't it be the same for an Irish citizen?

Um, yes, he is English. At least half English...He has an English mother, an English upbringing until the age of 36, an Irish father with an English upbringing and he now has current dual citizenship in Ireland and England. In this interview, does this man sound at all Irish? LOL>
