Integrated Engineering 2.5L 5 cylinder all motor 9400RPM pull

  • This is a little one of project we have been working on for a while... It's off the beaten path, and a bit of fun because frankly all motor power is hard. It's a VW 07K 2.5L 5 cylinder which we decided to build up for pump fuel all motor power. It has custom IE billet rods we made in house (410 grams with bolts- a turbo rod is usually more like 550-600), 11.5:1 CR JE's, IE intake manifold, IE tune, IE camshafts, IE springs & retainers, IE assembled CNC ported head, IE custom header, & 80mm throttle body.

All i got to do was full bolt-ons and a tune. My goal was to have the fastest NA Rabbit. Sadly times are hard and the car is getting old and slower as it ages. Maybe one day. But I know you guys probably don't offer too much today for this platform. Hence why I will always come back to this video just to hear the pure sound that my car may have had.

      +Integrated Engineering LLC. Is there even an option to upgrade the stock transmissions to handle the upgraded 2.5 power?

    • @SubsurfacePodcast
      @SubsurfacePodcast 7 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Bkretschmann90. There is ways to put the power down. The number 1 failure of the stock 5 speed manual is the stock differential. It has rivets that sheer off and destroy stuff lol. (happened to me with just bolt ons) for this kind of power of turbo set up, you can get an aftermarket LSD from Peloquin, Wavetrac and Quaife, upgrade the clutch to stage 2 or stage 3 with a single mass flywheel. Upgrade the axles with Raxles. Hell you could have the gearbox internals cryogenically treated which actually is not that expensive. But probably the cheapest thing to do in the long run would be to swap over to a 6-speed manual 02Q from a mkv GTI or GLI or 2.0 Turbo Beetle, or a 6 speed manual 02M from a VR6 Corrado or 20th anniversary mk4 GLI.

    • @BRIKKgoesHAM

      Matt Joyner do those transmissions mate up with no issues or are there adapters you need in order to do that?

    • @SubsurfacePodcast
      @SubsurfacePodcast 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      BRIKKgoesHAM They mate right up (for the most part) what you need to actually modify is the top of the bell housing of the 6 speeds. just trim about 1/8" of metal off the top so it clears the 2.5L's timing cover. from there you will need to use the starter, clutch/flywheel, axles, trans mount, slave cylinder line, and just the shift knob (so it says 6 speed lol)

    • @mikehub6664
      @mikehub6664 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Miguel Vazquez Turbo Charged not naturally Aspirated. Forced induction will always make more power. 280hp is pretty high on stock internals but with a built bottom end, stronger head gasket and bolts these make 450+hp. unitronics mk5 2.5 turbo makes 650hp. built of course.

    • @BRIKKgoesHAM
      @BRIKKgoesHAM 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Miguel Vazquez you can make 280hp on factory internals and a turbo, you just need to make sure you have a proper EFI tune... most I could see being an issue is killing your trans with that much power. I've seen a 98 Subaru Forester make 300AWHP on all factory internals with just a proper fuel system setup. It also depends on your boost threshold too... the bottom end torque for the most part is good on the 2.5s since they need a lot of weights for balancing so there's a lot of rotating mass hence why the engine inherently feels torquey.

    its an amazing engine no doubt but its only just making over 100hp per litre a honda s2k engine stock is about 240bhp out of a 2L , is it some limiting factor about the 5 cyl ? or was this built more for driveability

    • @20vtmk1
      @20vtmk1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      mr house That's not really a stark comparison though. The s2k engine you reference would be making 120 hp per liter. This 2.5 is making 112 hp/L (and on 91 octane I believe) which is 93% of the equivalent displacement power output of the s2k engine.
      Without knowing the details of both setups it's difficult to say why the output is lower, but note that 11.5 is relatively low for an NA build. A small bump in compression and accompanying increase in fuel octane could likely make this 2.5 comparable.

    • @20vtmk1
      @20vtmk1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      mr house Not to mention that Honda s2k probably doesn't make much torque at all. Need to consider bore to stroke ratio and its role in torque/power.

    • @IEtuned
      @IEtuned  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We did do a run of billet 2.5L N/A or boosted cams a while ago, they are all gone. The issue is, the stock cam is already rather aggressive, in order to make it more aggressive, the aftermarket cam requires a lot of custom work. The head has to be modified to clear the larger lobes, the guides must be replaced and pushed in further, custom pistons were required with deeper valve grooves, and they required a stand-alone ECU to tune as the cam sensor readings were no longer readable on the stock ECU. Anything less than this just does not make any more power over the stock cam. Its a nothing or all-out type of deal. For that reason, as you can imagine, the market was very limited and slow on them.

    do you guys still offer camshafts upgrades for 2.5

    • @IEtuned
      @IEtuned  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry, no. The stock camshafts are rather aggressive as-is, to get a good upgrade out of them we had to make a very aggressive camshaft. They required custom pistons with deeper valve grooves, custom head work, aftermarket guides pressed in further, and a stand-alone ECU management. They were only purchased by guys building big power turbo or high-rev N/A setups. That coupled with a low-run expensive billet design made them very slow movers. They were a one-off process that we will not likely do again.
      Hope that makes sense!

      @Themayseffect 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Cary Burkett 0:18 I wouldn't consider that throttle lag. Considering this is a single throttle body setup. That short delay is common with almost all single throttle body manifolds as the intake manifold has to fill with air before reaching each individual cylinder port. Ideally this engine would need a ITB system.
